Cherish your family time. My Dad passed in 1980, 2 months before my first child was born. I sometimes wonder what traditions we would have had with him. One of our Christmas traditions, as a child, was opening one present on Christmas Eve. We were all excited every year, and it was always a pair of pajamas to wear to bed that night 😊. I guess to look good for pics in the morning. Although I don't remember seeing Christmas morning pics but I do remember riding my new bicycle around the circle where we lived wearing those new pj's 😂.
My husband trimmed up a funnel for me to use when adding rocks as a top dressing. It works wonders and I no longer spill as many rocks as I use😂
When I was a kid, my aunt and I would smear all-natural peanut butter over pinecones, roll them in bird seed and hang them from trees - the birds loved it (and so did the squirrels)!
My mom did that when I was young. I totally forgot about that!

I just did a project for a woman’s group that included pinecones. Some weren’t fit to be used but they would definitely work for peanut butter and birdseed. Thanks for reminding me of this project. Good use for leftover pinecones.

Do you know how therapeutic it is to watch you Laura, plant that Haworthia. You are so systematic. Everything has its place even in that small potting tray. And with that music in the background, I could watch you plant everyday. No wonder so many people flock to your channel to watch you. This is one place you know you will get what you came here for and no nonsense.
The music and the planting was so soothing. I really like the white aloe. How wonderful to have dad time with all the kids!
The smaller plants would make perfect gifts for teachers. They could take it home over the Christmas break and bring it back to the classroom and have the kids check it every week to see how it's growing. Perhaps some will become gardeners of the future.

Suggestion if you put a fountain in you could have your children's hand print put into cement around it with there name and date. It creates a memory of a lifetime. ❤

A house plant is a lovely gift. I agree that most people would treasure a plant. My dad used to take us kids shopping and to a nursing home to visit his Aunts/Uncles so my mom could wrap gifts as well. Great memories. So glad you and your dad had time together. Laura, The metal white bird might be an Egret, but now after going back to look at it there are gray feathers on the wings, confusing looking bird ;) Herons are usually gray-blue all over. I especially loved the little fern that you repotted ;) Thank you for the gift ideals.

I really share your love of aged terracotta pots. My husband always wants to clean them up. And I’m like NOOOOO! Haha. I have all of my house plants and even my outdoor plants in them. It just makes for a cohesive look. And all plants look good in them. I think my favorite Christmas gift would be receiving a potted house plant (especially from YOU!). Because every time I looked at it, I would think of the person who gave it to me.
I have not watched to the end, but wow, that is a handsome rooster! If he were in the flower bed by the chicken coop where the ladies can see him, what a tease that would be!! He is might fine 😅
I think the variegated ficus would be especially lovely if you limbed it up and made it look almost like a small tree, like a bonsai, and then, if you wanted, you could use the sheet moss below it.
Loved seeing all of the new the things at the garden center. I especially loved all the pots. I would want to be bringing everything home!

I always went with my dad to pick out mothers Christmas gift. He knew her so well, she loved clothes and shoes. O can remember when pant suits became popular, that year he had a bit of an issue. Trying to find a suit that the plants weren't too long. Shopped half a day, finally went to a nice apparel store that actually had petite length. Ot was wrapped there at the store for a few dollar's more. He done good for she was thrilled with it. We didn't have on line shopping but we did have Sears . I ordered just about everything from them. Quality was amazing.
I had a Great Aunt that throughout the year when she bought someone a birthday present she would buy that person a Christmas present at the same time. She would take them home and wrap both gifts. The Christmas gift would get a tag with the person's name and what the gift was. She had a list of everyone's names and birthday and she would cross their name off when she bought their gifts. Christmas was pretty stress free for her and no shopping at the last minute.
I would take all but my favorite is the ficus! The Christmas tradition with your dad and siblings is soo sweet. My husband took the kids this year to shop for me, they came back empty handed but it could be the start of a tradition ❤

My husband used to take our kids out for that “day” when mom (me) stayed home and wrapped all the gifts! Now our adult kids are spread out across the state, but lovely memories and a tradition I hope they continue! ❤

Hi Laura! Nice new items at Andrews. Those pots are really nice. I would cover the holes with screen before potting them up for gifts. I find it really helps keeping the potting mix inside the pot, so less messy. The plants you picked are pretty. I like the fern, Ficus and Amarillo. I don't have good luck with Haworthia, and some aloe. The tradition with your Dad and siblings is so nice. I hope all of you had a great time! Thank you so much for sharing!

Best to use cacti mix for any succulent.
People tend to over water, and then the plant gets root rot.
Adding top dressing will just confuse how wet or dry the soil is.

What a fun way to start a morning, a cup of coffee and a trip to the garden center before it’s open. I absolutely love the ceramic pots and wish I could find those locally where I’m at, California. You give us so many great ideas, and I hadn’t even thought about giving a small potted plant as a gift for the holidays but what a fantastic idea. By the way, I absolutely love the ficus.
Those home potted plants are the best hostess gifts. Better than a bottle of wine any day.

Id definitely pick the ficus or fern, with the ficus winning out the most. I especially love it in the pot and with the stones.
