  • PowerDirector offers both clip markers and timeline markers for notating places in your project or placement of resources. We cover some of the ways you can use these markers--including some keyboard shortcuts--in this tutorial.

This couldn't be a more timely tip! Been looking for this kind of precision for my current project (could have used it in past projects!). I've had some success but it's been time-consuming. This trumps all methods I've tried so far. Thank you so much Jim!

Jim, you would not believe how astonished I was to see this one! I use markets all the time, mostly on the timeline. Often with green and red to flag start and end points. The M shortcut, then M again...yay!! And this clear explanation of the difference between clip and timeline markers...great! One thing I didn't hear you mention was the key importance of clip markers...the fact that they stick to the clip as the clip gets moved around. Anyways...I literally sat up in my chair to watch this one!!!!

      Don,
It's always a treat to hear from you. I have a lot of respect for your perspective as a seasoned PowerDirector editor. It's fun to showcase a feature that can be as helpful as this. Thanks for your kind words. --Jim

Hello Jim; I think I have watched almost all of your videos. I thank you for your time and the simple way to teach; however I sometimes get frustrated because the features change and change… sometimes I just can’t go forward (for example crop and zoom is today only crop, or pan and zoom is just pan) but: I am trying to understand the changes and thanks to you the videos I am making seem to have more quality. Anyway, thank you again for keeping up with the tutorials!!!!

2:10 Shift+M deletes marker, in other words, shift the marker out of the way!

I don't know if you take requests but I would love to find a way to increase or decrease the length of slideshows created by the slideshow creator.

I haven't watched the whole video I shall though. I just heard you say the easiest way to get to clip mode is to use the keyboard. I'm not sure why everybody is so keen on the keyboard shortcuts . Isn't it easier just to click on the clip? Also with all the other shortcuts a quick right click and then selection seems quicker than taking your eye off of the screen and finding the "keyboard shortcut". Lots of people talk about how awesome the shortcut keys are. What am I missing? I'm a quick typer but most of the editing is done with the mouse

If the mouse is your style, I say "Go for it." I would not want to persuade you otherwise.
Technically, not moving your hands from the keyboard to the mouse is faster, especially if you can hit the shift, control, and alt keys without looking away from the screen as well.
Maybe it's easier for me to use these commands because I've used similar ones in Word, Cubase, and other programs also. --Jim

I understand the process but I can't think of any reason I would use markers... It seems as though markers are just an extra step in doing what I do anyway.

They certainly don't work for every video editor. You prove that. --Jim
