Congratulations on getting this first one done, in the new oven! It was hard for us to see, and you didn't mention the specifics. But when did the cracking of the coating happen? Did you notice the cracking when taking it out of the oven? Or did in happen in the clamp? I use foil, and purge my oven with Argon. So I take the extra steps (and expense). I would also never plate quench two knives at a time. That slows it down. I chill my plates too, between each quench (And my plates are twice as large as yours (Mass). Which helps quicken things up, and gets me good numbers. Stick with K390, as much as you can. It's great stuff! I like A11 as well, but with K390 having the added Mo, V, Co, and W. I most of the time get better performance out of it. Not always, but most of the time.
Awesome advice! Thanks for watching! I think it started to crack in the preheat. It apparently melts and hardens at 2000 degrees. So in between pre heat and critical I’d say. It was cracked when I pulled them out. So foil next round and one knife at a time for sure. But I think I’m close for sure. I may have a buddy mill another plate and add a channel for coolant or water to flow through and carry that heat quicker. Yeah, K390 for the longer term for sure then I’ll branch out once I nail this stuff down! 👊🏻🍻
Bocote and brass are absolutely good tests for the edge. The knife preformed well as anticipated "geometry cuts, heat treat and composition say how long."👌🍻👊
Really impressed with how STRONG it is at 63. Good beans. Without the carbon loss you'll be fucking STOKED. (Punny) I have the K390 PM2 and even though it could be harder, it's SUPER strong for the blade retention that you get with it. Sharpening is a dream. Yup. Into your content. 😉🤙 Can't wait to see the pieces that come out of your shop.
Awesome work. The only problem is I have more questions now than ever. I am sure they will get covered in time. Thank you for a great video and congratulations!!
Hell yeah man! I should have some results in the next few weeks and I’ll make a pass around for anyone who wants to test it. You are first on the list! 👊🏻🍻
Jdavis882 - Knife Sharpening and Reviews I have more fun stuff in the way! 🤣🤣🤣 Gerald is also a K390 fanboy like Tim and I. Gotta let him get his hands on it! I’m also curious. I don’t want it sugar coated either!
You’re such a pal! I have A LOT of K390 on the way. So stay tuned for sure. I really want to nail this HT at the target I want and get the repeatability factor. I’ll be posting daily in one for or another on the progress. Then, the gates shall open on the best K390! 🤣🤣🤣 and the Tina.

I love hearing and learning about knife making! Hopefully one day I will be able to make some of my own.
Do it up man! There’s ways to start out on the cheap and work your way up. Also knowledge is power and all that! Lemme know when you get started! 👊🏻🍻
@@alexsteingraber thank you for your support, I'm thinking of outsourcing heat treat for starters and hopefully I can use a friends grinder.
Get it! Read and learn as much as you can if it’s something your passionate about! 👊🏻🍻
I'm definitely going to be in line to get one of these to test.

Alex Steingraber that’s awesome, thank you! Looking forward to it.

Thanks man! I was discouraged at first but then just rolled with it and it turned out well! 👊🏻👊🏻🍻
I’d love to support what you’re doing. If you want to make a blade for me I’ll buy it of course, and test it. -jdavis
Subbed to the channel on this account also to get those numbers up. 👍🏻
