@TCRS Exactly. I agree. That's so important for people to remember when they're thinking, so what, everybody gets bullied, etc. Not everybody experiences the same combination of events.

I think it's both sadism and pornography plus a giving in to a base nature.
We want to find a cause because finding a cause comforts us. To think that something happened to him that made him this way elicits sympathy or empathy when in reality he made choices and fed his thrill of power and violation over the helpless.
Or/and He is mentally ill therefore we can not fully wrap our brains around his psycpothy. - Thankfully

@@MoparMomma There IS a cause, even if that cause is not understood, even if that cause involves the individual agency of Rex.

    • @gingeroo5765
      @gingeroo5765 4 месяца назад +2

@@Vcagle30I don’t think Rene was arguing against a cause… I think Rene was suggesting that the cause may be something that is pointed INWARDLY at himself rather than outwardly at others. And, that it may be something healthy minds won’t understand… but all were suggestions. Anyway, that’s how I read it but I’m not very sure if any of us will certainly figure him out.. maybe Nick has at least a decent shot at it- but without actually interviewing him or evaluating his own words from therapy transcripts, it’s probably a half-educated guess at best. Half because imo the other half that is missing is Rex’s own words on the subject.
Nevertheless, I believe this is a worthwhile exercise for the cerebral activity and interesting topics alone. I LOVE following along with Nick at the helm.

I think when someone does something this extreme - they are aware of the monstrousness and part of their motive is consciously to do something that is monstrous to most people. And they feel power from that. I imagine him in minor work based conflict situations or even driving disputes where he's comforting himself by thinking...you don't know what I'm capable of, you don't know what power I hold. And it bucked him up, made him feel better. But then the memories of exerting that power faded, and it was time for another one. It would be interesting to track the attacks against the timeline of petty disappointments in his life (lost work contracts, big tax bill, car damaged in a minor knock - that kind of thing).

SERIOUSLY?!? Wow! Those people are the type who can't critically think nor put themselves OUTSIDE of the situation. Nope it's too important THEY feel so much more superior and better than others. And shows the killer was born insane and awful and never deserved any good thing.
On and on. I'm sure many of know what I mean 🙄 it's EVERYWHERE in true crime comments!
They can't even be detective or think like one yet somehow they think they're Sherlock and assume soooo much from a simple look or sentence and they've got it solved!

The psychological aspect of any case is the crux of the whole thing. The "why"? If we know why we can learn and create positive outcomes in future society instead of the horror of these cases.

That's interesting about compensatory aggressions. Obviously I knew about aggression coming from violence done to oneself or in front of oneself, but I hadn't realized deprivation created this. It makes sense. I am sure that Heuermann did not get what he needed from parents as a child or young adult, and that caused his personality development to be stunted. He missed the window of relating well to other humans and it closed up. Even when some HS kids (unusually) tried to include him at a few points, he was not able to respond and turned them down. It was too late. Only massive therapeutic intervention might have saved him from becoming a killer, and even then there are no guarantees.

Nick - always much like listening to your views. Lots of different angles you bring forth as causes of this horrific behavior. Still hard for me to fully understand given so much normal and positive in his life. In family had a brother and two sisters with the sisters no mention of problems so ok seems there in the family structure. Rex able to focus to get through college and graduate with a degree in architecture. Then to find a business need for his skills in the big city of NY. Setting up a company structure and finding an office location. Hiring employees and having the business successful and active employment for all his workers. All this requiring a lot of focus and time consuming. Yes some problems with Rex paying taxes and the maybe contrived auto accidents mentioned. And then dating in early 20s and having a girlfriend that goes onto marry. Then finding another relationship and getting married and having daughter that too graduates from college. But all this mainly good normal behavior still a psychopathic serial torturer and killer - the very top of all evilness. Bulling in school bad but think more to come out with parents and the never to understand what percent is related to a bad twisted dna setup that born with and not able to change.

Michael, lots of good points/ connections raised here. I, too have been thinking of some of these. One thing, we've heard some of RH's home life & troubles, we've heard that he was bullied through middle & high school - all contributing whether positively or negatively, to his "psyche" and "agency".
Yet, we've heard NOTHING (that I have seen), about his uni/ college life. MANY folks who don't "fit in" throughout their lives, find their niches in uni/ college (I both lived-in and then worked-in management of uni residences, for 10 years, and dealt with lots of shit during that time, as kids became adults), and I saw MANY socially-inept/ truly elsewhere-deemed "weirdos", find "their group" at that time.
I wonder what happened at/ in college/ uni, and has that assisted him in accomplishing all of those things you listed, and ALSO contributed to the "ogre" he became?
One thing, though, his fame-level (infamy), has at least equaled that of Billy Baldwin - even if for the wrong reasons, and RH, too, is receiving attention & energy from the public... Cheers!

@@kgrant3184 hi - i grew up on Long Island too like Rex. A few yrs older than Rex. I too was bullied in school. The “in” crowd in school lived in big designer type older homes near the water. I was in a project home. Father was in military for 20 yrs so like Rex’s father so a lot of discipline. Didn’t have the money for the clothes “Ralph Lauren type for those days” to hang out with the ‘in” crowd. No girlfriend or going to the prom. Mother died from cancer as a teenager so like Rex losing a parent at young age. Yet like most all no real issues later in life. All issues from HS years, after graduation, not at all on mind as focused on work and other good things in life. A lot here on Rex being a serial killer from childhood family problems and being bullied. This i think is minor - much always on “nature vs nurture” theory on the way a persons characteristics are formed - i think is nature and so some extreme deviate brain prewiring into Rex. Maybe some more to come out on other “nurture” factors effecting him but still this murderous twisted awfulness to other humans is not just some extreme bullying.

Is it possible to develop self esteem without having love and acceptance? Maslow thinks not. My first thought is that his degree and profession are held in high esteem- and most people get a lot of their pride from either holding a status occupation or at least doing your job well (all jobs are needed, and therefore hold dignity imo).
If having a wife and child fulfill that need, would there be a slowing or cessation of the sadism? The dates of known murders might suggest that. Would that love ever fill a gaping 30 yr wide hole?
Thanks for the mental protein boost. Lots to think on besides LISK- my childhood and my motherhood must be analyzed too.

Thanks, Nick, very interesting. SOMETHING/S must have happened to him - at SOME point, to have him become such a killer. The totality of the "psyche" - including the spiritual - elements are absolutely fundamental to understanding.
Suggestion: please cover anything you can find on his UNI/ COLLEGE years/ experiences. From my own many years in un/ around uni-residences (both living, then professional work), MANY "weird" folks find their niche/ group in uni/ college. At the very least, the academic or other prowess usually finds respect - for even the most immature/ non-sporty, etc. types out there (from my direct observations & experiences over 10 yrs).
I am also interested in the WHY, regarding the targets being women who have essentially ZERO chance of fighting back - young, physically small, in a "disposable" lifetime in a despised/ judged/ totally-looked DOWN upon "profession", so disenfranchised/ "bad girls", etc. Are they a mirror for what was done to HIM, when he was commensurately small, by a very big adult? His "preferred" targets communicate more than just targetting sex workers in general.
Also, another avenue of research is the military - his father was in WW2 or some other war (?), and then, didn't you say that he worked in the Aerospace industry? MK ULTRA mind-control programs and weaponized humans COME from children whose parents/ fathers were associated with the military and the spin-off companies. Was RH somehow ALSO targetted in this way, and "trained"/ created to respond so anti-socially, as some of the other serial killers have been?
Further, do we have any info on the relative size of his mother to RH, and his father's size as well? RH's father was alive until he was 11. Did something happen to RH (s3xual assault), when he was equivalently little, compared to some big human, and was it a female? There has to be a REASON he is going after similar targets. He's not taking on a 6'2" female MMA fighter, who might have a reasonable chance against him, now, is he? He is picking targets that pretty-well GUARANTEE satiation of whatever urges are behind his sex & blood-lust, that guarantee RH's SUCCESS.
Again, that film about the Swedish serial r@pists in a family, who also killed/ violated female victims according Old Testament (bloody, gory) Biblical punishments - always upon females, where the father TRAINED & involved his son, that film comes to mind (but not the name, alas). The film had Daniel Craig, Rumi (?) Mara, Christopher Plummer, etc. in it. Given the fact that Victoria seems to have an EXTREMELY MACBRE "bent" in her interests and "art", maybe her DAD was also raised/ conditioned by HIS dad, to have the same, that RH is just "passing it on"?
Very much appreciate your thought-provoking vids. Cheers!

@@patedwards8844 True, and since they're cowards, they usually bully in packs/ gangs, against ONE lone person.
I believe that Nick said that most of the most torturous bullying occurred by MALES upon him. So, what caused RH to choose small FEMALES as targets, and not small MALES? I find this curious, though I agree about bullies picking those who cannot defend themselves.

@@patedwards8844 I'm sure they did. But, that does not explain his specific targetting of a SPECIFIC type of female in response. One would think that he'd target male s3x workers - who he was likely ALSO much bigger/ stronger-than, and harm THEM instead - unless that was abhorrent to him. I find it thus far inexplicable, and rather "interesting". Not to be insensitive to the victims/ seriousness of the crimes, but, Cheers (to you)!

You know, he looks like 'Leatherface', the character portrayed by Gunner Hansen in the infamous 1974 horror film Texas Chainsaw Massacre. And Leatherface the character was loosely based on Ed Gein, the unassuming Wisconsin guy who started by digging his dead mother up in the graveyard, and when arrested was found with a woman strung up by her ankles in his barn, that he'd gutted like an animal.

I really doubt Rex was created by being bullied in school. His psychology is not really of a type of school Shotr. He was way more involved AND highly EVOLVED. Kids were tougher back then. I also don't think his mother coddled him and THAT could have played into his obsession. ( Maybe a little bit of Ed Kemper but Sadistic Hannibal Lecture with a dash of Masochist eh? ) also, he grew up with several Skiller cases that were prime time back then. They could have influenced him. He could have had a Mentor. Also, he focused on a certain time frame both in his life with his Guns and in his work. He specialized in 18-1900th century Architecture. He was an expert in that era. He was a high profile fixer for New Yorks Elites building needs. He was the guy who got you permits when it was nearly impossible to get it done. (Remember Victoria's searches for those types of torture)?) That surely is no coincidence. He TOOK control early on. Ithink.

He is a big man, probably was big kid and overweight. He has a speech problem. In his only interview broadcasted the other day by Bandfield, it is quite clear he has that problem with your tongue. I remember a long time ago one friend has a,surgery to cut under his tongue to get better, and it did. I bet the money I don't have he was bullied. But maybe it was a combination in his life.
