I just love these guys so much. They were my first musical shock, way back when I was 13-14. I remember listening to the MOP album 3 times in a row when I discovered it, because of how shocked I was because of how good it was (I had never heard more than GN'R at that point, as far as metal goes). Today I'm 40+, and after decades of metal journey into more extreme territories, I've come to the conclusion that these guys are just my favorites. I always take huge pleasure in seeing and hearing them perform. The songwriting is fantastic, the drums are excellently written and performed (Lars always managed to bring excitement to his parts), just a fucken incredible band, and this is an incredible song. Thank you guys.
5:25 James going "Oh Yeah!" while enjoying that harmony part is priceless! they are having the times of their lives with each performance, and so are we!
I think he's smiling about the shape of Kirk's solo. And how to disagree? He never played that well, live. I think it was about a thought as "I kwew he got it".
I love when they play instrumentals. You can tell James is having the most fun during those songs, probably 'cause he can forget about singing and fully concentrate on the instrument.
I remember how the whole stadium just cheered when the band kicked in, people around me were even singing the melody of the main riff. Awesome audience, great show
Perfect Orion, it means constellation in the area of the celestial equator. This is one of the most visible and recognizable constellations in the night sky. His brightest stars are the red Betelgeuse (alpha Orion) and the white-blue Rigel (beta Orion).
I've been listening since 1981, I've seen them live twice at the Cow Palace, San Francisco and Reno, Nevada...but this is without a doubt the best Metallica video I've ever seen. Camera angles, enthusiasm, sound quality, band energy, etc. WOW!!
This is, for sure, without the shadow of a doubt, the best version of Orion ever played live. Espacially for Kirk, who's been completely on point for the whole song. James is a machine, and that's it. Lars plays as he's in his 30's, with the exactly same stamina, and doesn't miss a bit. That changes the shape of a song. Rob? He saved Metallica and he pours out his soul, show after show. And he's a beast of a bass player.
Just got back from the Edmonton show last night and they played it here too. Nobody does it like these 4. Metallica FOREVER! CLIFF BURTON FOREVER! ♥️⚡️
Entre los 4 suman 240 años, y le pasan la mano por la cara a CUALQUIER banda actual. Más de 40 años de carrera y siguen sintiendo la música como en el primer ensayo. Viven para tocar, y se nota. LONG LIVE METALLICA
I was just playing this on guitar last week. Some Metallica songs are super difficult, but Orion is very approachable for most guitar players - I can even see where beginners could attempt a much less detailed version, but surely intermediates would have an easier time picking this up. It’s a gorgeous piece, despite not being the fastest track in Metallica’s repertoire (yes I just used that word, lol). If you’re looking for something to play of Metallica’s that’s more approachable than the super fast stuff, give Orion a try!
One of the things I love about live performances of "Orion" is how the band is always in tight proximity during the song. They have theis massive stage with all the ramps and whatnot, but when they play "Orion", they come together. It's as if they all combine their energy to summon something ethereal, something more powerful than they are individually (which is very powerful indeed).
It's funny after watching a bunch of these cuts of them playing Orion around the world you can actually tell they've been getting a lot of practice in! Hahaha... I mean they are all great, but geez this one they just nail it. All in perfect sync and perfect time. Just spot on. This might be my favorite live version.
I can’t believe Robert’s been in Metallica for 20 years. Kind of feels like he’s always been here now. He’s played Cliff’s and Jason’s licks more than they have at this point. Cliff would dig Robert as a bassist for sure.
Orion, the day that never comes and shadows follow thos 15-20 min just goosebumbs from head till toe. They kept on going and going. So greatfull. What a concert that night in Madrid.
Just saw Metallica live at Gillette Stadium. Great set, they missed great classics like One, For Whom the Bells Toll and Ride the Lightning but there were 2 shows so probably saved it for that night. The highlight besides the magnificent stage, production and sound but surprisingly enough Lars was on his game. No silly added fills or off time signatures just good straight 1-2 beats when needed so he has definitely stepped up his game especially in his 60's 😮 the rest of the crew rocked their asses off too and they definitely deliver a positive energy that is unmatched. Long live the Metal Titans 🤘🏼♥️

it's wild how much better Kirk's leads are on Greenie than any other guitar. Short scale smaller frets keeps his vibrato in check
Pro observation right there
I was just thinking that too after watching a couple recent videos!
Yes i was there both nights, Greenie sounds heavenly 🖤
Seems like the guitar just fits his hands & playstyle best. He should stick with les pauls!
All of Kirk's signature ESPs have scalloped frets, which makes doing vibratos super easy (perhaps too easy, seemingly).
Lar's drums sound so amazing on this tour.
