The bridge is taken from voices in his head claiming to be the devil, 'heaven lies beyond this portal take the word of one immortal' No matter how you look at it. What a way to get the subject out there, great reaction, much love&respect-!-
While he was going through depression while this happened to his girlfriend. The devil was telling him to end his life too so he can be with her. He is singing in the devil's perspective. It is in the top 5 of my favorite song by disturbed.
