There’s a long backstory but this was based on David’s personal experience with an ex-girlfriend who committed suicide in a heroin overdose. The song is presented as the voice of the Devil attempting to prey on the survivor guilt. “Give your soul to me…” ( ie also commit suicide) and you can be with her again
