Very helpful!. Watched 3 videos regarding STARTING SEEDS before yours. The others talked about everything else. (Their garden, their kids, etc). Frustrating

I purchase mine from Griffin. They are an east coast wholesaler.

I'm up in rural Alaska so do quite a bit of my gardening supply shopping online. Could you let me know what those particular trays are called and the brand?

If you have a business sales tax ID for Alaska, you can purchase wholesale from Griffin Greenhouse & Supply which is where I get mine. The trays are called 72 plug trays. A base tray for the water is also very handy. That way you can bottom water. I've also purchased retail from local garden centers, but it's quite a bit pricier. You can also purchase retail from Greenhouse Megastore online.

Does the type of sand matter? Can I use some from the kids sandbox? :)

as long as the sand is a fine sand, has no salt or chemicals (to keep it from clumping) it is fine to sprinkle in a thin layer.

Hi Richard: I am in zone 7a. The greenhouse is fairly small with polycarbonate panels vs. plastic sheeting so it has a little more insulation value but not a alot. I also use a heat table we built. It maintains a creates a constant soil temp of 55 degrees at this time of year and sufficient moisture that no plastic covers are needed. When the temps are really cold as this week, I cover the plants with frost cloth (remay fabric) to protect the green bits. If you want to use a smaller greenhouse or plastic sheeting, heat tables or heat mats are a necessity. And covering with thicker fabric and plastic domes is also useful.

Are you covering those seeds with something or it’s leaving in the ingested greenhouse?

The seed trays are not covered with anything. The heat tray with damp sand instead of a heat mat provides the right amount of humidity and maintains soil temps around 55 degrees. The seeds started in this video are only those that will germinate at 55-60 degrees. Hardy annual flowers like sweet peas and cold hardy veggies like kale and arugula. If we're expecting a really cold snap, I lplace a piece of lightweight remay fabric over the seed trays and seedlings.

Promix is currently hard to find. When it is in stock I get it from Griffin, a wholesaler. You'll need a business EIN and retail sales tax number.

We have a heat table in the greenhouse and will be making a new one soon. We'll have a how-to video on that project!
