- If you love the Seattle Seahawks and their colorful history, then you're going to love this terrific two-minute video by NFL Films which chronicles the uniform color history of the Seahawks uniform from their first season in 1976 to the present. Narrated by Scott Graham, one of the great voices of NFL Films, this video features three uniform history experts: Joe Horrigan who is VP Communications and Exhibits at the Pro Football Hall of Fame where he has worked for more than 35 years; Michael MacCambridge, author of "America's Game: The Epic Story of How Pro Football Captured A Nation" and many other books as well as editor of the massive "ESPN College Football Encyclopedia"; and Scott Sillcox, sports uniform historian.

I actually like the Seahawks 80's-90's uniforms better
Yeah the older logo definitely had more of that formline look to it. Not that the new one doesn't.
I agree I like the 80s an 90s also better , too bad they couldn’t do a throwback in those uniforms but with the helmet rule they couldn’t do original helmet

I grew up watching Jim Zorn and Steve Largent be a thorn in my Raiders side. I miss those silver helmets and uniforms the most.

I love that the Seahawks have kept the same logo but just kept redesigning it until it became the logo that it is today
I miss the "Seahawk Blue" of the 2000s. That was an awesome look.
The best ones were from the Hasselbeck days. Two toned. At day they looked grayish blue. At night they looked dark blue. Mid day they looked aquatic blue

Switching conferences isn't unprecedented. In the expansion of 1976, the Seahawks were in the NFC and the Buccaneers were in the AFC. They switched conferences in 1977.
Not unprecedented, but still highly unusual.
Hence, the Seahawks are NFC-born and AFC-raised only to return to the former prior to the start of the 2002 NFL season where they've been staying there since.
And now they are both in the NFC
I miss the 90s blue, kelly green, and silver. The Seahawk symbol is more iconic, though I'd be happy with them keeping the current symbol and just going back to the color scheme
They're bringing them back at least for one game this season in 2023

Bring Back The Silver Hats! An Updated Version Of The Throwbacks Would Look Best!
Some people forget thst this is the guy who was a PA announcer for Super Bowls XLVIII, XLIX, and 50.
I personally like the ones from the early 90s the most, and the mid 2000s were cool. Their current ones are definitely cutting edge and look good too
The Kingdome or expansion era uniforms were the best I always loved that blue on silver or white on the silver look they had going for them with the green touch in there. The 2000s uniforms were by far the worst ones very tacky and the away uniforms were super boring. Their uniforms now are way better than those but I still prefer the expansion era set. It's sad though the Seahawks would rather go with a monochrome all-blue set at home instead of showing off the great wolf grey pants to go with the blue tops and I think their lime green tops would go well with the wolf grey bottoms too.

Actually for pre-season game in either 1981 or 1982, at the request of at-the-time "St. Louis" Cardinals(They had played the week before in San Diego, who at the time always wore white at home) who hadn't traveled with their white road jerseys, asked the Seahawks to wear their whites and the Seahawks agreed to the Cardinals request.
how come the Seahawks never wear throwback uniforms??

The real reason: they are not allowed to use different helmets during the season, so the TB uniformors wont match with the current helmets
On a personal level, WE SUCKED BACK THEN!!! Glad of the roots, Largent and the history but the BEST memories are in the mid 2000's and 2010's no need of TB unis

As a Pats fan, I prefer the 80s-90s unis. The modern day ones aren’t too bad (better than the 2000s) but they seem a little corporate/soulless. Plus you can’t go wrong with silver helmets.

I can't wait until next year, now that the dreaded 1 helmet rule has been abolished we'll be seeing throwbacks back. Up to 3 games per team. That'll be just enough to scratch the retro itch for most of us.

They should never have given up those classic blue and silver uniforms. Since they changed, I can never decide whether their blue/green combo reminds me of snot or puke.
I think they should wear it when they face the 49ers (Blue is the opposite of Red and Silver is opposite of Gold))

Seattles' current uniform/color scheme is as bad as Tampa Bay's. Both teams abandoned perfectly good looking uniforms/colors for uniforms that are a trainwreck.

The Seahawks don't have a bad uniform or helmet to be honest including Color Rush experiments. I can't bring myself to hate any of those either. (Disclaimer: I'm a Niners fan who hated our awful black-on-black mid '10's costumes with the red trim which were too bad for words.)

Why are the Seahawks' current uniforms with Collegiate Navy, Action Green, and Wolf Grey to you or anyone else? BTW: I kind of dig the Wolf Grey color.
Not being from the area/region, I'm not a Seahawks fan (but not a hater, either -- save for when they play my favorite team, current division rival, SF '49ers), but I have to say that I prefer the silver helmet design of the '70s thru the '90s -- the newer redesign looks ugly if you ask me
Where did the name Seahawks come from anyway?
Hi Ungar to the Max - I am certain the instance I am about to cite wasn't the first use of the name Seahawks, but I'm guessing you could draw a fairly straight line from one Seahawks to the other... When the AAFC began play in 1946, the league had eight teams including a franchise in Miami called the Miami Seahawks. The team lasted just one season and went 3-11, then folded. But my guess is that someone involved in the Seattle franchise's founding in the mid 1970's liked and remembered the name Seahawks. But the public story, and I'm sure it's right, is told in a great little article that can be found at seattle.curbed.com/2015/1/15/10002148/when-we-were-almost-kings-how-the-seahawks-were-named . In 1975 the new Seattle franchise held a public contest that attracted 20,000+ entries and more than 1700 different team names - roughly 150 people suggested the Seahawks. It's possible that some of the 150 people voting knew that a somewhat local high school team in Anacortes WA used the Seahawks nickname and/or that a local Seattle minor league hockey team used the name in the 1950's.The Seattle Seahawks NFL team was officially named on June 17, 1975 and went on to play their first game on September 12, 1976.

0:57, not unprecedented. In 1976 the Seahawks were in the NFC and Tampa in the AFC and they both swapped conferences the following season. Poor research there.

The Seahawks uniforms now are hideous. With the Bucs and Browns improving their unies the Seahawks now have the worst uniforms in the NFL. Bring back the silver helmet, royal blue jersey, and silver pants.
