Regarding your question about 40 watts on AM, that is the absolute PEP (peak envelope power) design limit of the output stage. 10 watts carrier with 100% modulation results in 40 watts PEP (or "swing" as CB-ers call it.) That is the reason for both the 10-watt AM carrier limit, and the slightly conservative modulation setting. Increasing either power or mod level in this radio is rolling the dice on Chinese semiconductors. The factory also rates the radio for up to 5% distortion on transmitter modulation as delivered stock ; this can result in PEP slightly higher than 4X carrier power if mod levels are increased. Increasing carrier power from 10 to 40 watts is only 6 dB, or one S-unit difference at the receive end, while creating a ton more heat in the radio. Chinese parts hate heat! Better to use a separate amp and mount it somewhere you can dissipate the heat. FM can allow a 40-watt carrier setting because on FM, only the frequency changes with modulation, while the PEP remains constant at the same level as the carrier.
This TCVR appears to use the RD16HH part x 3 as the RF PA and they are rated 16 W a piece. Moreover they can be bonded down to the case with no insulating washer because of the internal design. I think your comments might be misplaced for this particular radio tcvr. For other Chino tcvrs I tend to agree... TEF NzL IN this particular radio I DON"T see the Mitsub. logo on those MOSFETS ,which is a worry... the logo looks a bit like Fairchild which suggests a lower grade substitute. I suspect this radio was Badge engineered and the Stryker factory has no real say in the quality. I definitely saw the Mitsubishi and RD16 on the other strip down..... so it goes.
Just in case anyone else runs into this issue; if you select "CB only" or whatever the menu item is after cutting the wire, you will not be able to change the power from 4W to 10W, it will just say "Error". Select the HAM mode and then you can change it.
I bought my second 94HPC and searched your video for a refresher. I also fully removed the white loop wire so there is no way it will touch. On ham radio the frequency standard ends in a zero instead of a five. Does this switch to a zero when going into legal ham bands while running modded for all? If not how do you change to a zero and still keep a 10k step?
