Hope you enjoyed this wonderful flight! From my experience, JAL and ANA tend to be on the pricey side for intl travel, so it may be worthwhile to book via another Oneworld (or SA) partner. For example, American in this particular case.
Oh, I did book through American! I couldn't get a seat assignment online, but I called them after booking and got it.., but yes, you are right. I checked JA and the same flight was nearly twice the price.
I flew ANA from the US to Japan and United on the return trip. The difference between customer service and meals is night and day. If your budget allows, go with the Japanese airlines.
I was bumped from Hawaiian Airlines to JAL on an HNL-NRT flight a few years ago and was so happy it happened! Now I am flying from HNL to Kuala Lumpur and decided to fly JAL economy class over other premium econ. products. Great price, great airline. I love their 787 configuration. It is often said they have the best economy in the world....I would believe it.
Long haul flight like this, I always pick aisle seat over window seat. It’s easy to get up and go to a bathroom, go walk around for some stretching without bothering your neighbor.
If you book through another airline and they won’t let you select seats, call the airline you booked through. They should be able to act as your “travel agent” and get you into the seats you want with the other airline. I just did this with my Japan airlines flights booked through American and they were very helpful in getting this done.
I flew from Phoenix to Bankok via NRT in February on ANA. It was very nice but had the traditional 3-3-3 configuration. I just booked another trip to Thailand for next February on Japan Airlines and was so excited to see it was 2-4-2 as I need to sit on the aisle (claustrophobic) and my husband likes the window, so this is a win for both of us. Thanks for the video!
We flew ANA from washington to haneda back in january and it was the best flight I’ve been on, we are gonna be flying JAL this December from Chicago and after your video I am looking forward to our flight in what looks like the same 787 setup
How do you like the trip by the way if you want the same leg room as Japan Airlines but 3-3-3 like AC B787s then fly NH. My parents did it 6 months ago and liked it although they were about to replace it with PR113 LAX-MNL due to UA delaying their EWR-LAX flight.
Nice video! Really enjoy your narrating and unbiased review. Would love to try JAL 787 in international config. Our longest flight has been from YVR to HKG at 10,227kms (6392 miles) on Cathay, also a lovely airline to fly on. Safe travels!
My longest flight was Incheon, Korea to Washington, DC which was 6954 miles. Next was Washington to Tokyo which was 6725 miles and my third longest was from Algiers to Oakland, CA in 1977 on a nearly empty first generation 747 charter which was 6217 miles. (A real feat for an old 747)
Thanks, Andrew for a great review. My longest trip would be MEL (Australia) to Paris CDG, via Ho Chi Minh City. The SGN to CDG leg is 10,131.05 kms and the MEL to SGN leg is 6692.02 kms. If you ever fly to MEL, I can highly recommend JAL Premium Economy. You won’t have any problems sleeping in these comfy seats. 😊
Unfortunately, JAL doesn't offer Premium Economy on its Melbourne route - it uses the same 787-8 plane as Dallas to Tokyo with only Business and Economy; to get Premium Economy would require taking JAL to Sydney on their 787-9, and then doing a domestic route to Melbourne.
Hello, I came across your video rather accidentally and I liked it very much. First time I see this kind of seat configuration in Economy on a 787 (2-4-2). It is normally a 3-3-3. This one used by Japan Airlines looks exactly as you mentioned, "less cramped". The colour of the seats is very comfy. Interesting when you showed a window seat which actually has no window at all. I wonder if you know a site called aerolopa? It is the best site for airline seating maps as the site provides the biggest and the most detailed seating maps on the internet. They do not have all the airlines, but the main world carriers are there. Their diagrams are incredible and they show all those seats with no window. I have your video downloaded to watch later on and I really missed a watermark on it, so I could remember who is the owner of the video! Wow, real silverware cuttlery in Economy? This is premium customer service offered by JAL. And the way you keep everything clean and organized on your tray after the meal deserves a thumbs up.
I did not know of this website. I usually use the airline's seat map. JAL and other airlines in Japan usually indicate which seat has no window. I'll take a look at this website for other airlines! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Great review! I just booked a JAL flight to Japan, and am so excited. I once got bumped to a JAL nonstop, when my original American Airlines flight was cancelled, and the experience was incredible. Flights from LAX are reasonably priced, too!
My longest was only SFO-HKG until flying JFK-SIN this past January. Incredible flight, and didn't even feel like 18.5 hours -- perhaps its your mindset when you board the flight?
I’ll fly with JAL next early year, I need information about what kind of power outlets that they provide in economy class.. from the Video I can see only USB port.
I visited the land of the rising sun this February and it was my longest flight, also DFW-NRT via American. January 2024 I’ll be going again DFW-HND via JAL.
@@theglobalpeasant exactly what I was thinking. Also I believe they are no longer doing the japan entry and Covid stuff at the airport so it should be really quick. With that and the NRX it took a while to get to shinjuku where we stayed this year
Hope you enjoyed this wonderful flight!

Its a great product for long haul travel! One of my most enjoyable economy experience! Enjoy your trip!
We'll be flying JAL from Chicago to Tokyo. Thanks for the video. We can't wait!
Right on! Should be a great flight! Enjoy your trip!
I think the plane from Chicago has a 3-3-3 configuration…
Long haul flight like this, I always pick aisle seat over window seat. It’s easy to get up and go to a bathroom, go walk around for some stretching without bothering your neighbor.
Good call! My thoughts exactly.

Good to know! I'll keep this in mind for the future thanks!
Thanks for the tip as well. I'll be planning on doing this on my very first flight!
I tried that, it didn’t work..
best airline I've taken so far.......excellent
Great rewiew 👍👍

The two seats is perfect for your situation! My seat in this video was randomly allocated since I purchased with AA. Enjoy your upcoming trip!
Thanks for this vlog. Fly safe. Cheers. 2023.

Right no. Never flew ana international economy yet. Enjoy your trip!
I am doing a similar flight from the UK in November 2023 with JAL,but they changed my plane from a 787 to 777 . Thanks for your breakdown
Enjoy your trip!
amazing video bro
Just by chance I found you and and your site. Well done refreshing and cheers from near YYC! Subscribed immediately.
YYC- awesome! Always enjoy my time in Alberta!
Welcome aboard!
My longest flt a 16.30 SFO SIN, but I made a an immediate connection from NYC🤯. I was completely beat, despite flying SQ which was amazing!
Wow that's a long time! Having a comfortable and enjoyable trip helps immensely doesn't it!
Nicely detailed video. I’m now subscribed!
Right on, Colin. Welcome!

Both options would be good I think!
Good report,
I will be flying to Tokyo on this airline next Wednesday. Very excited. Thank you for your video!
Enjoy! Should be a great flight!
Love this!
Great video! Just checking, did you say that air vents are not installed on this flight lol??? Does that mean it is hot on the plane lol?
Many airlines' dreamliners don't have the overhead adjustable air control installed. It's quite cool on the plane ❄️.

Wow! I'm sure there are quite some memories on that 747 fly flight!
Thank you for the helpful review!
Glad you enjoyed!

Would love to visit MEL! All the way to Paris is quite a treck eh. JAL prem econ is on my list!

I flew Delta. 777. Arrived and returned. Portland Narita. Economy. Lovely.
Nice! Would enjoy flying with them one day!

2-4-2 is 8 seats per row
Great review! I just booked a JAL flight to Japan, and am so excited. I once got bumped to a JAL nonstop, when my original American Airlines flight was cancelled, and the experience was incredible. Flights from LAX are reasonably priced, too!
Thanks! That's a flight bump I'd be pleased with! Enjoy your next trip to Japan!
My longest was only SFO-HKG until flying JFK-SIN this past January. Incredible flight, and didn't even feel like 18.5 hours -- perhaps its your mindset when you board the flight?
Need a good mindset for a flight of that length! That jfk-sin flight is definitely an endurance!
@@theglobalpeasant I’m doing JFK-SIN again Jan 2024. I’m excited!
I’ll fly with JAL next early year, I need information about what kind of power outlets that they provide in economy class.. from the Video I can see only USB port.
Yes there's a power outlet so you'll be fine.
We’re u economy or premium economy ?
Do you need to pay check in luggage?
Always depends on booking class. In my case it was included.
I had the same flight route NRT to DFW on American airlines but they delayed our flight by 10 hours everyone got mad
Sometimes delays are unavoidable. It's good idea to remain calm. I hope it was a nice flight to Dallas.
From my experience, JAL has been the best airline so far
Great airline..one of my favorites!
I visited the land of the rising sun this February and it was my longest flight, also DFW-NRT via American. January 2024 I’ll be going again DFW-HND via JAL.
Flying to hnd is going to save you a few hours after you land. Winter is a great time to visit Japan. Enjoy!

*Turned on (not up)
2-4-2 is 8 in a row?
Ya it is, isn't it!
I would never be able to fly this airline. My only option based on where i live is United.
Makes things trickier when your airport is only serviced by one major airline!
Vaccine papers?
USB port, but is there a headphone port as well?
There sure is!

Are you sick? Why are you wearing a mask?
Gotta follow the science 🔬
@@theglobalpeasant so your sick, you shouldn’t be traveling when your sick. Not very courteous of you.
greedy european airlines would consider this premium economy
To be fair, this would almost be premium econ w/ N. American carriers. Japanese carriers really do a fantastic job!
Still wearing that face diaper...
