The response by the FA to the safety video not playing correctly magnifies the absurdity of that Lufthansa crew. "OH, we forgot? We'll just do it before landing..."
I waa thinking exactly if the Lufthasa crew situation, this is the absolute opposite. Dude a personal manual demonstration, now that's care for safety ❤
Great trip report once again! I am suggesting that you'd try the following airlines: AirJapan: Tokyo (NRT) - Singapore (SIN) Singapore Airlines: Singapore (SIN) - New York (JFK) - Premium Economy (39A) - World's Longest Flight JetBlue Airways: New York (JFK) - London (LHR) - Economy - B6 1107 Hope to see these trip reports on RUclips soon!
The first two are on my list (though I've done SIN-JFK multiple times on the channel in Business)... As for JetBlue, their one way pricing is always absurd, so it's unlikely you'll see me trying them out in business anytime soon.
I find your reviews to be the best of all out there. I immediately subscribed to your channel after watching your Four Seasons Bangkok review. Your very smooth video recording and editing skills are easy on the eyes, your airport and plane graphics are so informative, and your commentary distinguishes you as the best in my book. It is my honest opinion :)
We recently flew JAL Business class, BKK to NRT. The food was excellent, the seats were very comfortable, the crew was friendly and professional. I highly recommend. Great video as always!
There is nothing better than a sublime dose of JAL service after having dinner. Needless to say, Japanese airports are generally amazing-an immaculate blend of modernity and convenience. Nonetheless, thank you Kevin for this superb video.
I flew with ANA from London to Tokyo in economy last year and was very impressed. I'd like to try JAL some time too but they seem to be more expensive than ANA, when I hit the lottery I'll give them a go. If you haven't done so already, I can't recommend Finnair's business class from Helsinki to Seoul in their beautiful A350 highly enough, it's the only time I have flown in business class so it was a rare treat to myself.
I have AY booked, but not to Seoul. As for JAL prices, yes they are more expensive, but keep in mind for the economy and premium economy fares, you are in deed actually getting more physically space than on other carriers, ANA included.
Immediately pulled out the manual safety demonstration kit... now that's the kind of safety that saved the passengers of JL516! Imagine if this was on scamhansa...
Ha, inflight safety…Lufthansa take note! Still not a word from them…? Can’t wait for the Japan series, but also eagerly awaiting the Al Bustan Palace review 😊🤩 Thank you for the great review! 🙏🏼
Nah, I was doubtful from the get go about a reply from Lufthansa- I think an acknowledgement of something going wrong is far too out of character for LH at this point lol.
My biggest dream is to go to Japan flying with a Japanese airline! Even though JAL offers what seems to be an outdated seat in the 788, the the service in general looks great. Great video as always, Kevin!! Thanks for sharing!!
I agree about people shold not be barefoot on a plane...socks sure is ok!...also if i got cup noodles in business class i's be a tad pissed off also!....that's just too low even for economy,no place for cup noodles even on a train...seat looked good to me and condition and space looked excellent....love your content kevin.
Those cup noodles are specially made for JAL to preserve the taste experience you'd have on the ground, at altitude. Hardly a cheap cup-o-noodles. Thanks for watching 🩴
Great video Kevin - I’m a little conflicted about it all - I’m more of a fan of ANA overall myself and whilst the seat seemed ok for a daytime journey I would expect a flat seat on a 787 - cup noodles in business seemed a little low end - it just seemed a little underwhelming but it appeared spotless which is always nice
Their cup noodles are specially manufactured just for them to ensure the flavor is still balanced at altitude. Presentation aside, JAL's noodles are far better tasting than ANA's which are served in a proper bowl.
What do you know? Just after posting about Japanese crews and their awareness of safety on the previous JAL JFKHND flight film, here you have it! And the red suite over at the First Class lounge at HND -- I love it. Great work as always, Kevin!
Your opening shot was a great hook - grabbed me immediately.. 😃… not many people do ‘tunnel’ or ‘pathway’ shots like you - Hotel corridors and oblongs resonate more the way you frame them .. maybe the late Mr Kubrick might be impressed .. who knows ? Anw .. thanks for another great clip .. btw did that ‘special’ cold tea in JAL first class taste as good as the hype ? You didn’t mention it after trying it , so I assume it wasn’t life changing etc ? 😁.. thanks again Kevin .🙏
Appreciate that. Not many do it... and equally so, not many notice it haha. I always enjoy videos that have the feeling of beginning in medias res, especially for the videos which do actually begin in transit.
@@tfft i'm with you on this, I hate it more when people have shoes on and rest their feet on the ottoman, its disgusting with all the grime and crap stuck to the shoes and transferred on to the seat. I'll always give it and my foot a wipe down and go au naturel knees down.
The safety demonstration which is taken seriously at JL is yet another reason why all survived the A350 crash not that long ago. JL also seems to place a premium on the comfort of EVERY passenger which is a good excuse to fly them as much as possible
Shell flat neo! I flew this a few weeks ago. I wish you put it in your title as there aren’t too many reviews on shell flats (I searched before flying). Great job! Keep up the great work!
Just added it to the first paragraph in the description. Admittedly, I forgot they had a version of the 787-8 with APEX suites, so I thought the "-8" was enough haha.
Nice 😊 Would you have booked a flight with an 8 hour layover if you didn’t have access to the first class lounge, or was there no other option? just curious.
I didn't have a choice, but if I didn't have the First class lounge access, I may have just entered Japan, stored my bag and went into town for dinner.
It's not for everyone, but I find 8+ hour airside layover is quite relaxing. I wouldn't have any problem in that lounge, although my longest stretch in that particular lounge is only 4 hours. There are also airside hotel rooms in HND T3, part of the Royal Park Hotel which also has a separate landside section within T3 departures. Depending on the time of day and your state of mind, you can easily go landside and go into the city with an 8 hours layover. HND is one of the easiest international terminals to negotiate in respect of land transportation, it's barely two minutes from exiting arrivals to either the monorail or JR stations, although you'll probably want to pick up a Suica or Pasmo card which takes about two minutes IME, and available in front of you on the way to the stations almost immediately as you exit arrivals.
Lounge time limits do not apply if you are transiting on a valid itinerary within their (or their alliance’s) network. If they sold you the ticket, then they can’t limit your lounge time (unless the lounge actually closes).
I'd agree, but NH's Premium comes in a very close second. Their flaw is they have nothing to compete with JL's J-Class and so their Premium class needs to be more 'middle of the market premium' rather than one premium and one extra premium product.
@@tfft tried J class on a NGOCTS flight like 5 yes ago (no domestic F on NGOCTS with JL), check-in upgrade connecting flight with AY from HEL. Enjoyed the service and wider seats, but meal service was rather basic (breakfast time though). For the price (~JPY 800 at the time) still a deal the upgrade.
I think the Lufthansa 747 FA's need to be trained on safety procedures by your JAL crew! Also what is the machine at 06:01? I want to believe it dispenses hot Japanese rice on demand 🤣
Wait what? Im flying 787 from San Francisco to Tokyo business class and it looks nothing like what you had. Yours looks more like premium economy. Does their 787 have different kinds of business classes?
thank you for sharing . How is the immigration queue at Tan Son Nhat arrival hall when you landed? Because the long queue ( almost 2 hours) on our last trip to Saigon ( landing around 4pm from Singapore) we are wondering if we should pay for the VIP service to skip the queue
Hmm, I actually prefer the JAL F lounge to the ANA F lounge at HND T3 for F&B. Sushi & curry, a rite of passage in that lounge IMHO! ANA's individual booths are great for privacy and relaxing, but when the lounge is even slightly busy, good luck getting one. Was the Salon area closed at the time you flew? It does have restricted hours, but it's positively an oasis of calm... and the best Espresso Martinis. I agree regarding these seats, they're very comfy for sitting, but not good for sleep: the last time I was on this seat, thankfully no one was sitting next to me, so storage wasn't much of a problem during my flight. Unfortunately it was a day flight and I'd just come in from LHR-HEL-BKK, so sleep would've been very welcome. A shame you didn't get to try the new F check in at HND, that's an experience in a very good way. I'm really enjoying your content by the way.
I agree about the space- JAL is better- but I found there to be a lot more hot options with ANA and also, their self serve buffet had actual food on it, compared to just cookies for JAL. And yes, the Salon was closed.
Nice video! I took a similar JAL flight last year from NRT-->SGN, same layout in business, but no amenity kit 😞 Just curious, what's the current "coffee money" rate these days at Tan Son Nhat immigration? 😉
Nice video as always. The FA's attitude to the safety video mishap illustrate why Asian carriers are often regarded as superior to North American and European carriers. That quality and attention to the details. Its that human "software" (the FA service) which matters. Other airlines may have good "hardware" (the physical product such as the seat and onboard food), but can't match Asian carriers on the "software".
Japanese airlines have pretty good economy seats, while their business seats on some planes are not very competitive. I'm an economy flyer, so I often choose ANA or JAL, but I'll consider other airlines if I pay for in business class.
To be fair, ANA and JAL have some of the best (some would argue the best) long haul business class seats on the market. I wouldn't judge the full airline based on one regional configuration :)
10:08 Here you mean Lufthansa attendants 😂😂😂 How should they have handled the issue of the safety video not playing? On your trip from Frankfurt to India
My second video fo yours that I have watched - really enjoyed it. Good tone, product detail and historical background - nice. Just an aside, it was really hard to see read the wine list titles. Nonetheless, a pleasure to watch.
A cup of instant noodles in Business Class? I freaked when I saw that. Come on! We all know the Japanese have exquisite cuisine. They could have easily presented some sort of small cold plate, or at the least, a bowl of miso soup. That would have made for a few point deductions for my final score. Anyway, you scored in the lounge. But still.😵💫
They are custom noodles made for JAL- the flavor of which is better than the noodles ANA serves in the same scenarios in a proper bowl- so I am happy to get past the paper cup.
It's JAL's specifically designed instant noodles for consumption on a plane (where your taste buds aren't working quite the same). It's a very unique experience.
