NASA | Ozone-Depleting Compound Persists

- Earth's atmosphere contains an unexpectedly large amount of an ozone-depleting compound from an unknown source decades after the compound was banned worldwide.
The compound, carbon tetrachloride, was used in applications such as dry cleaning and as a fire-extinguishing agent, until its regulation in 1987 under the Montreal Protocol along with other chlorofluorocarbons that destroy ozone and contribute to the ozone hole over Antarctica. Parties to the Montreal Protocol reported zero new emissions between 2007-2012.
However, new research led by Qing Liang at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, shows that worldwide emissions of carbon tetrachloride average 39 kilotons per year - approximately 30 percent of peak emissions prior to the international treaty going into effect. Now that scientists have quantified the emissions they can begin investigating where they are coming from. Are there industrial leakages, large emissions from contaminated sites, or some other unknown source?

The source of those emissions is probably mostly China and India... seen from a mathematical probabilistic point of view.

I got some deodorants and all of them have this small picture, its a globe and around it it says "Ozone friendly - No CFCS"
I just hope this is true.
Maybe a weird idea but they can scan the percentage of shitloads of compounds in the atmosphere of other planets but they cant scan for CCl4 on a country scale?
Im pretty sure they can and it would only take a day to find out which country still produces this.
I imagine a lot of carbon tetrachloride will continue to be released from soil vapor at contaminated sites that fall below cleanup limits.
most likely from refrigeration. when people convert from the old to the new they dont recover they let it out.

Ну и что делать рядовому человеку в такой ситуации?
Сдать в надлежащую утилизацию старый холодильник с фреоном в качестве хладагента. В остальном на производство и потребление фреонов рядовой человек не может никак повлиять, множество поправок к Монреальскому протоколу ратифицировали не все страны.
В том-то и проблема - в СНГ (сужу по РБ) вовсе не развит такой процесс сдачи приборов... Если и есть пункты приёма, то это почти всегда - самовывоз, а кто хочет этим заниматься? Проще уж оставить у мусорки рядом с домом, а потом это всё на свалку...
Gennady Dryomin население бывших совков не имеет понятия ни о науке, ни уж тем более о политических процедурах гражданского государства. Процитирую Путина до того как он стал презиком "Уровень образования наших граждан создает благоприятные условия для террористических актов" и "Того чего не было показано по телевизору, того не происходило". Пока террористы у власти не будут стимулированы образованным населением, террористы в людей не превратятся. Другими словами собирайте людей, приучайте их к самообразованию и вместе не давайте покоя местным советам пока они не поймут прибыльности вложения предвыборных средств(местных бюджетов) в экологические программы. После того как первые действия начнутся остальное пойдет как эффект домино и докатится к федеральному уровню и даже сам Путин будет вынужден вкладывать бабло на пользу государству, что быть переизбранным еще раз...
