I can relate Ray. After "Everybody Loves Raymond" finished up, I went into a cultural tailspin. I haven't followed another series since. I do miss the whole gang but own every episode. It was THE best sitcom ever. Thank You.
@M Detlef because money is everything right...? I am by no means rich or close to it but got myself from having no money to have enough not to need 'em ... and none of it removes my anxiety....depression....fears.....insecurities.
Everybody Loves Raymond is one of my favorite sitcom comfort foods of all time. And I have nothing but respect for Ray Romano and everyone else that was involved with the show. That said, its always very interesting to me how 99.99% of the world's population chases money all day long, but the moment you get a good piece of it, it instantly becomes the least important thing in the world.
Having just a few weeks ago turned 50 (OMG!!!!), I look at this guy who is 61 and I am filled with hope and optimism that the best years are still ahead if I can just make the right choices. I got this mainly from his recent Netflix special which I can thoroughly recommend.
Just watched the entire run of ELR again and even as a viewer who's seen it before, its depressing knowing there are no episodes left. Watching ELR is like snuggling up in a comfy blanket.
I enjoyed his role in “Parenthood” and I was rooting for him and Lauren Graham to get together from his very first appearance. And, he was TOTALLY DIFFERENT than in ELR, which made me happy to know that he’d be able to continually work in TV and film as long as HE wanted to. Not every actor can reimagine themselves or get free of the roll that made them famous and it ends a lot of promising careers.
Loved this! I always wondered how he felt , really and truly. When his show ended. I really love him as an actor also, not just as the sitcom Raymond. He’s really an amazing actor.
I think that he would have too. I actually am kind of upset that they didn't keep him and stuck with James Spader. James didn't fit the energy of the show. The characters were awkward, and Ray is awkward. James Spader's character Robert California was so damn creepy. They tried to make it work, but the energy between Spader 's character and the overall tone of the show was always a mismatch. I guess someone could argue that Robert California's awkwardness was in his creepiness, but I don't think so. His character gave off an uncomfortable energy, but it wasn't awkward, at least not the kind of awkwardness that went with the tone of the show. Ray's awkwardness, however, would have been a good fit.
No way. James Spader was perfect because he made everything so awkward in a way that made you feel stupid for not getting it the way he did. Ray would have been like another Michael.
I am stunned that Marty had never heard of Ray Romano. It’s one thing never to have seen the show but the show was a huge success for almost a decade. Not knowing anything about it even in passing is wild to me
I really miss you Raymond!!! I loved everybody loves Raymond so much. But I have been still watching your show until now. But I will continue watching your show . I really loved your family so much as well. I am commenting this from Calgary, Canada. Enjoy your real family I am sure you are enjoying them. Love you all...💙💜❤💛💗💚🧡💕💕💕
I love you Ray Romano!! I watch the reruns of Everybody Loves Raymond EVERY SINGLE NIGHT WITHOUT FAIL because it's EXACTLY like the crazy Italian family I grew up in!!! You captured all of the craziness and lunacy only another Italian could completely understand. LOL 😆 Like the fruit of the month club!! And the fish tank for Frank. Hilarious!! he sucks and that show is unwatchable...a show for boneheads
I'm with you. Great memories from that show. The Fo Paugh episode when Robert said, "I'm so so sorry". When everybody kept calling that kid's dad the Janitor. Lol.
We still watch on TVLand, 8 to 10, almost every night. We stop for a while every so often, but the show still makes laugh. For years I’ve told my husband it’s the story of his family, and I’m Debra.
During the interview I remember a scene where Raymond says "who am I, where do I belong?"...and in Marie fashion she rushes in and says "Right here!"😂😂😂😂
I looooove him , he helped me when I have heart problems 30 years old ( blood pressure ) to thr with a smile . Love from Greece Macedonia sweetheart 🏄♀️🕊💗 God bless you
~I had not heard of him, either, since i havent had TV for 40 years, but i got the series on DVD & loved it!!!~And i must say, each episode had an unexpected, and fun twist, which most sit-coms do not do very well~
Ray is one of the more casually interesting people in Hollywood. Very real, every day kind of guy ...but you can also see that genius in the way that he approaches things.
Karlton Limeback , Gerard was great. Ray" Why are you so negative"? Gerard- " Cuz I'm not very happy" Ray- "And whose fault is that"? Gerard- "You mean NOW"? LOL
I believe it’s that way with any job that you have been doing for a long period of time. It becomes your identity, who you are. We spend a great deal of time at work that when it ends we are lost.
ELR was a run if the mill late 90’s sitcom, as generic as it got, but it still makes me laugh when I see a clip pop up online every now and then. The “smallness” and stage like feel of the show made it more palatable and loveable, for me at least. Kudos.
I hate that they cancelled Vynil. It was a good show, getting better throughout the end of the 1st season! And I think Ray was great in it and had the opportunity to show he's talented enough to do other/more serious roles. I really like him, he seems like a down to earth and really funny guy.
@ClandestineOstrich Yeah, everything goes faster these days... People's concentration too and that's probably the reason shows are cancelled so quickly. I'm not familiar with "Sledgehammer" but others examples of shows that got cancelled recently are "Flesh and bone" (which I liked and I was curious to see how the story went...) and "Sense8"..
Essentially Ray never played a character on Everybody Loves Raymond, he was literally being himself. When you look at his mannerisms, facial expressions, and articulation, you're looking at Ray Barone lol. Ray Romano and Ray Barone are not polar opposites in the least bit. You could also say the same of Seinfeld. Those comedians were portraying their actual personalities with a fictionalized backstory to accompany it.
I disagree with the Seinfeld comment, Michael Richards especially - he was a very serious actor and did not like doing retakes of any scenes really and often got mad at his fellow comedians for laughing too much and not getting through scenes. Jason Alexander, wasn't even playing someone remotely close to him. He was portraying Larry David - he figured that out very early on in the show. Jerry as well, he is a very different person than how he acts on the show.. I mean come on. It's a SHOW so what do you do, you put on a slight face for the camera. Now Julia.. well she was probably the closest person to their character. Never take things at face value, always question the questionable.
@@Ben2bwild I know what he meant, he thinks that the Jerry on the show is actually the Jerry in real life, which he is not. Look at any interview of any of them you'll see. He isn't a totally different person but he for sure put on a small face for the show versus how he actually acts in real life cause like I said.. it's a show.
@@SkeletonManBones That's true for the other characters but definitely not Jerry. I'm a huge Seinfeld fan and have gone to lots of his small shows in NYC. He's absolutely the same guy in real life as he was on the show.

I have always loved ELR but I never quite knew just how good he was until I watched the outtakes and bloopers from the show. The jokes that he riffs off the top f his head are hilarious (often not suitable for primetime). And though I didn't stick with the show, I was rather impressed to see him on Vinyl. His Netflix stand up I thought was a little.... rusty. I thought it was a guy getting back into the groove of stand-up - almost in a sense showing us the process as well, which was actually quite brave.
Seems like he only cared about himself for 9 years, forgot he had a family, now he realizes he lost everything. Now his career is still more important than family.
He often tells that story that Scorsese never heard of him. Whoever said that is full of crap. First of all, everyone even outside of the business has heard of him. Second, Scorsese is in the business. It doesn't matter that he's in the movie-making area and Ray's in TV. There's NO way he never heard of him. So either someone is lying, or someone wanted to knock him down, or Scorsese is having memory issues
Good the doc had the insight to say get in there twice a week - if his family was any thing like the one on the show!! Growing up in a family like the one portrayed on the show is great for television, but not so much in real life. Having a childhood like that leaves on feeling like they've gone 15 rounds with Muhammad Ali ... in his prime. Good on you Ray - we love you and Phil for making us laugh all these years, thank you. I'm still happy the show is in syndication as we still watch it.
For Romano, it must be unusual for him to find he is anonymous to somebody. As he said, it's like living in a self-imposed bubble.
