Inside Ray Romano’s Cozy Desert Hideaway | Open Door | Architectural Digest

- Today Architectural Digest is welcomed by Ray and Anna Romano to tour their serene desert home in La Quinta, California. The ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ star and his wife worked with AD100 powerhouse Nate Berkus to design a beautiful and comfortable home, perfect for hosting their expanding family as two of their four children prepare to get married. Moving away from the mid-century Americana styles you’d typically find around Palm Springs, Berkus took inspiration from Italian country homes, creating a more muted space with all the charm of the Italian countryside. Before letting Berkus and Anna take the reigns on design, Ray only had a few specific requests for his new desert oasis. “I wanted some kind of cozy feel to it. That’s all. I was very vague,” he says. “And I fell in love with a bunk bed room that we saw at the Ritz-Carlton in Sundance that my kids stayed in. And I said, ‘I want a room like that.’”

I mean money and success helps surely but they do genuinely look happy and they look great. Hes 66 and shes 60! wow yeah money does help, but being happy together helps even more!

Everything about this had me laughing- his love of bunk beds, his description of a perfect day, the talk of grandkids and the art that “looks like a smile.” I loved it.

I always looked forward to watching Mr. Romano's tv series, Everybody Loves Raymond." It is the funniest show about family life with the greatest cast of actors and so well written. Thank you Ray for that. I, too, love the bunkbed room. I am happy we met Anna. Very comfortable couple.

Nate Burkus took them to town with the 'expensive' pieces. The 'designer' metal pieces are found in every house in like a South American country, Mexico or Asian houses. Next time hire a real designer, not a TV designer.

This is a large house but it looks so relaxed and livable. It’s meant for a large family to gather. Hope it won’t be long until grandkids show up to take over those bunk beds. The outdoor spaces are so beautiful. Great job Nate!
I love the house. Love the people in the house. It's clearly fancy but still looks like they weren't trying to overdo the fancy part. And that's down to earth for rich people. Love it.

@shake741 No storms?? I live in Los Angeles, CA and we’ve had horrible and damaging storms, including recently. 30 to 50 mph winds last week. Not to mention the two earthquakes in the middle of it. We’ve had unrelenting two-week straight heavy rains. However, compared to some other places, we do get our share of sunshine!

Family is the main reason for this house. They both really enjoy what they have. Yes, the house is pretty overwhelming but they love it. He jokes about the costs but hey he has earned it. She is very sharp, pleasant and show humour too😄
