- Here is Volume One of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, first published in 1813. Possibly the most famous novel in the world, it’s packed with humour and wry observations about marriage, education, manners and money in Regency England. I persuaded my friend and excellent actor Sally Ann Burnett to read it for Magpie Audio. A quick trip to East Anglia to set up some additional equipment at her studio and me dragging my way through the proofing and editing, and, lo, we have Volume One (of 3).

I do hope fellow die-hard Conan Doyle subscribers will give it a listen and share the video with any Austen fans they know. Where there’s a Conan Doyle aficionado there’s often an Austen fan nearby (Opinion only - not fully fact checked!)

Anyway, this novel needs little introduction and won’t get any from me. Here it is. Enjoy!
The portrait is of Mary Freer, by John Constable.
Read by Sally Ann Burnett.
(More Doyle soon)

Thank you Sally Ann Burnett for this reading.
This channel is always just widening my knowledge of classic English Literature
I'll tell her.
This is far and away the best narration of P&P available on RUclips 🙏🏼❣️Excellent reader, thank you!
I miss Greg’s voice but Sally is also excellent. Thanks.
Well I’ll be damned, I never thought I’d bother with this classic but it turns out Magpie has forced my hand.
Keep up the good work lass and stay safe.
loll
Oh my, I love Pride and Prejudice! I never thought I'd hear a narration by Magpie audio :D
Would love to hear one by Agatha Christie in the future, needed some Hercule Poirot or Miss Marple stories haha
I'll check it out! I think there may be a couple of Poirot Christies in the public domain in the US.
There are lots of Agatha Christie audiobooks already on YT -
Poirot, Miss Marple and Tommy & Tuppence.
Greg knows how quickly AC can bring unwanted attention. Not many in the pd, unfortunately. Altho there may be some of her non detective works available, which are very good. Cheers fr Nashville ☺
I would love to hear Greg reading it. Especially the Mrs Bennett parts.
Now why didn't I think of that!
Volume 2 please 😊
My comnplients to the narrator she has a very pleasing even tone she sounds like a very experienced stage actresses. In fact she surely must be
EXCELLENT reading!! Bravo 👏 thank you, Magpie
Thank you!
Although I would've loved your narration as well, this is a refreshing and somewhat understandable change as it perhaps fits better with the main characters. I certainly can never resist an Austen. Thank you for the work!
You are right because I love Doyle and and Austen! But now that I have read your description it made me think of something incredible. If you enjoy these books as well as a bit of a mystery then perhaps one day my favorite book of all time might end up on this channel despite its length. Jane Eyre, please!!
I was so excited to hear Greg read this! But this sounds good too!
Glad you're enjoying it!
Continuing to listen today.
Best reading of P&P - an agreeable voice at a meter that allows better appreciation of the text
It's a great reading!
Well done Sally!
Wonderful narration! Where is volume 2? I can't wait!
I really enjoyed this reading; Ms. Burnett was spot on. I beg of you to hurry up and get the two remaining volumes edited etc. I was so disappointed when I realized that just volume 1 was currently available. Thanks for many happy hours!!
Time and tide wait for no man.
@@sherlock_holmes_magpie_audio Hey you..plenty of time and plenty of tides have come and gone, and an impatient and demanding woman is still waiting for VOLUME 3. I'm not that young and I'd like to listen to it before the grim 'creeper' comes a'callin'💀
This is a multiple day listen and it's so pleasant
It is! Glad you like it, Clara!
Brilliant reading. Please read more novels for Magpie, Sally Ann!
Wonderful! Thank you for this reading of this book!
I heard just 3 seconds of it and new that this is the version I'm listening.
This is lovely Greg! Ty Ms Burnett. VWD! I look forward to a duet. 🎭✔💯👍 ☺
Any suggestions?
@@sherlock_holmes_magpie_audio Ooo Idk. I'll have to give it some mulling over. Ty for asking. No pressure or anything right?! Ha-Ha
I suggest the woman in white by wilkie collins. As the narrator changes, you could trade off
Great narration of a classic J.A novel. Thanks for this. 👍🇦🇺
It's a great reading!
This is the best I've heard today
Thank you 😊
Is Greg at the pub again? 🤨
That’s definitely true for me, Greg! Doyle and Austen fan here! This is definitely a fave. Never gets old. I find Mr.Bennet’s humor wonderful. Sally did a great job! :) Any chance you’ll read Dumas, Greg? 😍
Couldn't agree more! As for Dumas, I reckon the translations in the public domain are a bit clunky, but I could be wrong, Anna. I often am.
Definitely could have used this in college, but I’ll take it now and be happy!
Cheers Char!
Love this
Beautiful voice!
I am Mr. PROSENJIT , a student of English literature ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,love and respect from india🇮🇳
Your humility must disarm reprove , yeah that's would put it
I would love to hear some of Georgette Heyer's work. For example: The reluctant widow or The Dandy. Is this at all possible, please?
Greg, I seem unable to access the iPhone podcast channel as before... has it changed? Best wishes,
Mr Greg will you and Ms Sally be doing any readings togeather she is extremely good?
Well Dees Nuts PB - anything is possible in this technological age. What do you suggest?
Good to hear from YOU
@@sherlock_holmes_magpie_audio “Carmilla” ?
Is there any chance of getting the rest of the book. Now that you have me hooked!
There will, Cindy, be some delay. I've got to edit it. My bad!
A month maybe?
I wonder about the friendship between Charlotte and Lizzy. There is a considerable age gap.
Does 6/1/21 have any meaning?
Will we get the second volume as well?
As Manuel might have said, Eventually.
Where are volumes 2 and 3?
Sherl ❤️

What the heck is going on here? I was so excited, thinking that I was going to be listening to Greg read this! Who is this Sally Ann and why is she reading instead of Greg? 😓

Equally mortifying"™?, come on what?
5⭐️’s. Would this narrator consider reading “Carmilla” by J. Sheridan le Fanu? 🩸🙏🏼🌹
