Oh good another "the answer is staring vinny right in the face and he still can't see it" type game. Truly the only competitor to the strand type game.
These are even worse for us, the RUclips crowd, because we have to assume chat is trying to help and it's the only time Vinny never actually looks over. We cannot help.
I love Vinny. I love these games. But man do I hate when he plays them. A: He doesn't pay enough attention to actually make these viable. Which then leads to B: These series become what I call, _Complaint Likes_ . I'm sure you can figure out what that means. Which in turn leads to C: They stop being fun to watch because the funny man is just being hard headed and whiney. (No Vinny, trying to brute force the puzzle with the same exact design 20 times in a row isn't going to solve it, and no your complaining about it isn't justified when you're being so deliberately hard headed. DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT FFS. APPLY BRAIN.)
24:12 I swear if i could do a David Hayter/Solid Snake impersonation even _half as good as Vin's_ I would do it at almost any opportunity. Whenever he does those Snake inflections or Master Miller it sends me
I love how vinny stared at the phrase "destroy activators to use machines" for like 20 seconds and twice read it as "destroy activators using machines"
One of the destruction games that you played in the past was Besiege, it was the one with a medieval/steampunk-ish theme where the building camera and block-joining mechanics were very similar to the ones here in ABRISS, but you could save blueprints for anything you built Speaking of Besiege, it actually got a huge engine upgrade in early 2022 (they moved from 32-bit to 64-bit, which allows for the use of way more system resources) and runs significantly better than it used to, so you can actually go wild with your creations now with barely any lag (no more single digit framerates from using a couple vacuum blocks). They also did a big quality of life pass on a lot of the Ui and stuff, so it's a much better experience overall (which is saying something, considering it was already a great game) I know there are a billion new games coming out, but if you do ever decide to revisit Besiege down the road, just know that it would genuinely be an improved experience
to defend the game a bit at 40:49; You could have compared your poop to the solution and extracted the relevant lessons, i.e. align the thrust vector with the center of mass and the target direction, so u don't speeeen, which is easy with symmetry. No need to make the exact thing it wants you to make. But I do agree that the hint system could be better, maybe giving an explanation first instead of a solution TL:DR Skill Issue
The way he did that zero grav level was so dumb, he blinded the red stuff which is fair enough cos that's just how he is, but then when he actually sees it he doesn't even try once to build a contraption that will destroy them which has been the objective of the whole game and goes straight to the hint, then criticises the hint for giving him the solution despite not attempting the actual puzzle once? He already saw what the hint system was like, albeit once, but surely you have to attempt a puzzle at least once before getting a hint? I agree as well that the hints could be more subtle, so the criticism is valid to me, but the way in which he led himself into that criticism was laughable and it makes it seem like his criticism just came from a lack of effort into properly playing the game.
@@GoogleUser-ms6hr I don't think he actually saw where the red ball was before the hint. Maybe he was expecting the game to show its location, which I don't think is that unreasonable since a lot of games will point the camera at the objective for example. What I think was maybe unfair to the game was he thinking the solution was more rigid than it actually was, mainly because he wasn't getting why things were working. In that level the game gives you 6 Ultraheavy Blocks and uses all of them in its solution, but you don't need to use any, all they do is pulp the acceleration from the thrusters and make the contraption more controllable. Same thing with the 4 thrusters, you can use all 4 and controllably go in all 4 direction, you can use 3 like the solution, you can use 2 and pulse the first one so you don't need to brake... But the most important feature of the provided solution was that it was balanced as to not rotate much, and he couldn't isolate that aspect of it
@@GoogleUser-ms6hr tbf, some people just really don't click with physics puzzles like this, and I feel like if someone isn't able to intuitively come to an understanding of what needs to happen for the right solution, they're going to possibly oversimplify it into needing a specific pattern of structure, rather than thinking in terms of a sequence of events that need to occur. Vinny *did* sort of take the wrong conclusion from his struggling with this, thinking that the game wants one specific "correct" structure, when really it just wants a certain set of events to be triggered somehow. That's unfortunate, but I think it's probably just the result of him not being especially physics/engineering-minded (which tbf, he completely admits)
there also is a certain degree to which it's true that more complicated physics puzzles are naturally going to have a narrower set of possible solutions, but to me that's not a sign of the game just being like a bunch of Lego sets where the player just needs to figure out the instructions, it's just a sign of complex puzzle design
@@vanessaashford9203 I also appreciate that he likes to put effort to play these games "wrong", with all the scoops, penicular structures and self inflicted CBT, to make it more fun. And this is definitely more funneled than that, but not *that* specific
yeah I was just thinking that as well, and tbh someone could maybe make the same criticism of some of those puzzles that they hem you in to one specific type of design, but just like I said on a comment above, I think that's to some degree inevitable with physics puzzles above a certain level of complexity
The game does let you do your own solutions. The hints are just something they know will work for the players who are really struggling. For instance the 2x4 rocket car that you needed to turn. Yours would have worked you just needed the weight distribution for the thrusters. Your turning thrusters were both bottom layer forcing the car into an upward spin. If the side thrusters where lined up vertically on the side the same way they were on the back, i think it could have worked
I think the hints are genius, by showing the entire solution it robs the player of all the enjoyment of being able to beat the level, incentivising them to think more before giving up, and they show the most optimal way so the player can take notes on how not to be an idiot aka i like seeing binyot suffer
yeah it's kind of like the times I had to sink to looking up solutions for a couple of the shrine puzzles in TotK (in basically every case I'd realize that actually I'd just been overcomplicating everything, and the solution was something obvious I'd overlooked, which would make me regret not just trying to simplify everything)
Man, this was difficult to watch. Watching Vinny struggle to grasp how the game mechanics/physics engine work and spend a lot of that time blaming the apparent lack of build options was upsetting. I love this channel, I watch it every day, but watching vinny do puzzle games is anything but a pleasure.
"I'm being funneled into a specific solution" and then when brainyot follows the hint exactly it still doesn't work due to wacky zero-G physics. Top tier game design.
A lot of these comments are to the effect of “brainyot” but even when Vinny runs the exact same thing 2 times in a row he can get very different outcomes. There’s some valid issues with learning what works without literally copying the “smart” kid’s homework.
I think it's just the low FOV for the regular camera. At 5:15, 20:08 you can see how the perspective distortion increases with the free cam's higher FOV. Looks like the game is also pushing the camera forwards at the same time it increases the FOV, like a dolly zoom
The fog and glare creates an illusion that makes the depth perception harder to perceive than if the game didn't have it, especially when the fog increases when the camera moves away which is realistic but not helpful.
@@citrus_sweet I don't see how the fog hurts depth perception; the fog makes distant and near objects have different values and saturation, so there's more to differentiate them. The low FOV makes distant and near objects have similar angular sizes, and are thus less distinct, that's the "orthographicality". Human vision is very biased to perceive distant objects as being smaller, so when you are getting close to an orthographic view, things might get fucky, e.g. 8:44 and Emmert's Law related illusions
@@Teteu.R I think it's both, at least from my perspective. Parts of the video when the camera is further away putting more fog inbetween the camera and a distant object makes the object look far even when it's right next to the building area. I know what orthography is and it assists but I'm not used to seeing video games that use both orthographic projection and dynamic fog at the same time.
Having to show the player the solution to a puzzle and calling it a hint is a dishonest catastrophic failure for a puzzle game, it failed in teaching the player how to problem solve in it's first attempt, and immediately gave up. It would've been better to just give the player a "skip to next stage" button instead of a "show hint(solution)" button. The reward of these games is solving it yourself, with something like that you're just stealing the reward.
