Splitsie, just a thought for the runway, maybe have some shallow slope blocks like the 2x1 stairs on one end? That would help decelerate and stop planes when they land without them running into a flat wall and stopping catastrophically. Alternately, maybe a wall of wheels to aborb the impact? But that would be more complex.
What great progress. I thoroughly enjoyed the bulding of the spinning runway. 🤣 I'm also looking forward to watching all of you trying to land on it. You could put a mag plate on the runway in the hanger and when you come in for landing, you'll run over it and stop, kinda like an arresting wire on an aircraft carrier.

Hey Splitsie, I think I solved your helicopter problem you mentioned in the 'Teaching Capac to fly' video. I posted a grid called 'Eyes of Tomorrow' to the steam workshop that doesn't have a single thruster on it. I still don't really know how to make a post with sub grids so the propeller itself is missing along with a couple rotors, but its just a few wings on the moded motors (from the same mod) at an angle of 10 degrees down, a gyroscope, and a total of three rotors spinning at -60rpm. You can still see the set up in the picture of the grid. I did use the 'gyroscope 1000%' mod with this particular grid but I do have a working model with the standard gyroscope (it just takes a lot longer to spin up the propellers). The other mod I used to make this grid is not needed to fly, just some weapon core missiles. For your purposes in this play through, this would probably just be a proof of concept as the craft is slow and heavy (intended for taking out infantry or slow ground targets). A copter would make a good scout as it is fairly energy efficient and can carry a ton of fuel to stay in the sky for very long periods of time. I haven't built a model for heavy lifting yet but I do believe that it would be a decent candidate there too, despite being a little hard to hold still when trying to hover. I hope that this works well enough to make it into your series, I know I'm not the best aircraft designer in the game but I did put a decent amount of time into it and am quite proud of the outcome so far. I still have more experimenting to do for other purpose built models but the concept should be ready to go! Enjoy!
If anyone could give me some feed back on the grid to help me improve my designing skills, please do. I know I still have a lot to learn. Also maybe a script could help it out? Not sure.
I can't believe Splitsie got b*tchslapped out of the sky by the barrel of a friendly turret. And yet, I feel as if that is entirely the sort of event one should expect from this crew! Love it!

Oh, if you do find yourself needing a new mouse: the Logitech G300s is great. It's got six spare buttons on top, and you can reprogram them as you please. And you can even make one of the buttons toggle between three modes, for effectively _15_ buttons on top. And it can automatically change based on what application is currently selected. Only downside is that it's wired. But it is only $25, well worth the price.
Some one probably mentioned this but next series have a combative race between you and another team to see who can make it to the opposite pole. Possibly one team drive north one south?
I'm generally hesitant to do competitive things in Space Engineers. They cant possibly have known, since it wasnt referenced, but the design ideas they were discussing for the early runway is literally a thing ships did in the early 1900s with scouting seaplanes. the autolock - i think it's broken in SE in general as autolock is not working for me in mine games and lock/proximity status does trigger with some delay (like 1s) - landing on ground/block and can manually lock it after 1-2 sec only
Not sure what the weapons were like back then, but currently interior turrets are like 3x as accurate as gatling turrets. So at range that probably more than compensates for the gatling turrets increased DPS.
Yeah, the change to the accuracy of the turrets made the interior ones crazy against foot soldiers so I eventually made a mod to bring them back to something more suitable for pve play 🙂
One idea for a landing deck for aircraft: cover a surface with magnetic pads pointed up and set to auto lock. Then when you want to land something they just skim over the deck when the pads are on and if it gets in lock range it should just snatch it out of the air...or depending on how well the game translates momentum it could rip the bottom parts off. But I think as long as you don't plow directly into it, it could work.
@@WilliamTythas hmm...maybe use a piston and some blocks to create a deployable "landing skid" on the bottom of the aircraft? Make the piston recessed enough to keep it from interfering with takeoff or ground travel, but can be deployed far enough below the wheels to allow a maglock "net" to snag it?
I actually approve of the way the rover looks. I like the undercarriage wheels. Used a similar design in Cossout. Flying straight towards a turret is suicide. So suggest you have two person planes, one pilot and one Gunner. The pilots job is to avoid fire and gunner guns.
I'm hopeful someone will eventually be able to design a plane that can have a turret on it without the drag from the turret beinga problem as the idea of having a gunner is very appealing to me :)
Just build a fixed rectangular platform on the trailer, designate the diagonal as runway, and use the unused corners for parking planes. IRL aircraft carriers solved this design problem 70 years ago.
I was always planning on inviting Shack along once I knew things were relatively stable. He'd burnt out a bit on SE so I figured once I knew the server was behaving well I'd bring him in which would conveniently be the same time that we'd have access to planes :)
it feals like it would be faster to walk to the other planet with the speed of the rover :D Also, you should do a angled ramp at the end to get better takeoff angle. Also, why dont do a large bed with like 6 landinggears and just land on them with auto-lock on. instant whiplash landing-pad.
Y'all should use the hacking mod where you place a hacking tool on a grid the more you place the faster it hacks and also the sister mod the firewall which is a quite large device that basically ads many many phantom system blocks only visible to the hacking tool so that slows it down greatly, oh yeah the way the hacking tool works is overtime it rolls dice on each system block there's a chance it'll take it over

Yeah but they're a lot bigger than what we're building so we're trying to come up with things that work on the platform we have :)
Where can I find the blueprint for the the small grid truck. That I sow it on this stream?????
Glad to see y'all in another series together. What happened to Shack?
I was always planning on inviting Shack along once I knew things were relatively stable. He'd burnt out a bit on SE so I figured once I knew the server was behaving well I'd bring him in which would conveniently be the same time that we'd have access to planes :)
You may need a 2 trailer modular runway with hinged lap to be lowered for landing and takeoff...
This has me wanting to design a catapult-style, mortar-like thing
Catapults in SE are always good fun :)
Just wanted to know if you guys where planning on continuing the coop KSP series
Yep, we'll be back in the office in a few weeks and then trying to get set up to be able to do that again :)
it feals like it would be faster to walk to the other planet with the speed of the rover :D
Also, you should do a angled ramp at the end to get better takeoff angle.
Also, why dont do a large bed with like 6 landinggears and just land on them with auto-lock on. instant whiplash landing-pad.
Spinning flight decks are so last week. The new meta is folding flight decks!
YOU COULDNT HIT THE WATER IF YOU FELL OUTTA A BOAT
why not put a Large Cargo container between the wheel struts? and since when to carriers have hinges and made like a train?
Y'all should use the hacking mod where you place a hacking tool on a grid the more you place the faster it hacks and also the sister mod the firewall which is a quite large device that basically ads many many phantom system blocks only visible to the hacking tool so that slows it down greatly, oh yeah the way the hacking tool works is overtime it rolls dice on each system block there's a chance it'll take it over
Capac grrr in the ice hole... Priceless 🤣
Great stream cant wait for the next one
My wife says W4sted sounds like Sylvester Stallone.
2:57:35 Oh no, it's the Calgary Legal Guidance Landing Pad!
The series title reminds me of a song "High Road - Three Days Grace", I wonder why
Catapult assisted projectile acceleration crane, or C.A.P.A.C.
I think maybe...a mining vehicle of some kind might be in order....
nevermind, then I watch more. foot in mouth. lol
Turret goes…BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT.
Watching this in 2022 and they mentioned the Antonov 225... which was just destroyed like 2 days ago....
