"I simply don't adhere to the assumption that because something is new it's better." This episode may be over twenty years old and dated concerning its computer references, but than line is timeless in society.
I relate to Buffy in this episode, a few years back my older brother's gf's daughter had an online friend who wanted to meet in person but didn't want her mother there. So she said no and the daughter wouldn't listen to her mom's reason why she didn't her to meet this stranger alone with no clue if she was actually talking to another child.
Computer guy who looks familiar played Ash on Supernatural - frequent patron of the Roadhouse who helped Sam and Dean with internet research and other computer related things during the first three seasons. :) I love Giles' explanation of why books are better than computers
This episode always ranks very low on the favourite fan episodes which is rather unfair. It was really way ahead of its time regarding the potential dangers of online dating and social media. Willow is obviously very green, innocent and vulnerable as up to this point she has no romantic experiences. Great foreshadowing here again in this episode ( will not mention here ) as could be construed as spoilers. As has been said S1 is quite rough, but great perception here of how the future is now with the internet basically controlling everyone's lives.
OMG the days of the chat rooms LMAO. I would spend hours there... as like a 15 year old pretending to be 18 lmao. I remember playing like trivia games and stuff. So unsafe! good lord. Thank god I was smart enough not to give out any real information lol.
Teen girl being catfished by someone pretending to be a boy her age !? Troubled teens latching onto dangerous beliefs they hear online and murdering others!? The core ideas seem to be held up exceptionally well.
Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy) was 19 in season 1
Its crazy..she was actually 17 while filming the pilot and 19 when the show actually aired
Business in the front, party in the back..... I miss Ash...

Baby Ash! Your face on finding out it was him did not disappoint.

“It’s my friend names Tim” caught me so off guard

Sarah Michelle geller (buffy) was only around 18 or so, when this show premired. Cordelia was like 27 or something.

I love your stories!
I get the message they were trying to get across, but the demon robot was too comical to take seriously.
My Walmart had 75” tvs for $295 this year lol
The monk in this episode is credited as "Thelonious". // chortle

So jer is a criminal…
I'm very confused hearing you talk about the 90's as if you remember them because you look like you were born in the 2000s!
