  • Enya has been an extremely successful artist for three decades, and while she might be one of the richest musicians in the United Kingdom, she has always lived quite a reclusive lifestyle.
The “Only Time” singer, who was born Eithne Ní Bhraonáin, hasn't been recording as much lately, and she has never been one for touring. Even though she’s always been private, it seems like she has almost entirely disappeared in recent years, leading many fans to wonder what happened.
From living in an actual castle to the hiatus she needed to take, let’s take a look at whatever happened to Enya.

I GREW UP listening to Enya's songs, which really prompted my love of Celtic music! My mom would play every single one of her songs when we drove in the car together. No matter where we went or what time it was, Enya was always singing. When "And Winter Came" came out, I was so excited to hear her new masterpieces and it is still my favorite album. I love how she does not make it a huge goal to be famous. Simply doing what she loves, and that's making music. She takes the appropriate amount of time to do wonderful work and that is why her music always sounds so beautiful. Whatsmore, she is consistent. She isn't changed by the media or pressured into being what "they" want her to be. She is a great example of what I want to be. An exceptional artist who makes beautiful pieces that exhibit her passions and touch the souls of others.

Make no mistake, you may not see her very often, but Enya is a boss. Every penny she’s made has been made purely off sells. Reese Mooligan, a VP at Warner Music said in 2017, “There is no other artist, in the world, that has more power and trajectory over their career than Enya. She brings in such huge numbers when she releases and album that we, as a label, cater to her every need and desire. There is zero influence from us as a label, so when it comes time for her to release an album, the public is hearing only the exact thing she wants them to. No other artist in the world has the kind of control over their brand as she does. And we hope she stays with Warner forever.”

We're on year 4 out of 5-8 years between albums. It's too soon for a "What Happened?" The real concern is that Nicky is like 70.

@Holy shit, it's a talking muffin I don't think old age will make much difference for the music they bring out. They don't really have to promo it anywhere or go on tour; it's just the writing and production of the music which can be done no matter the age. :)

She really is her own thing, and so generous and motivating for her to just follow her heart: we all get the benefits of her sharing the results. Timeless indeed, no higher compliment, eh? One of the few artists (Ian Hunter is another) who consistently makes me happy to be alive.

I first saw her video "Orinoco Flow" on MTV back in the 80s and fell in love with her voice. Been a fan ever since. Awesome voice and a beautiful lady.

If we knew more about Enya, probably she wouldn't be the magical artist that she is today. Let it be, let her be...

I find Enya EXTREMELY special as an artist as there's not even a single song from her I wouldn't put on my playlist....I mean modern artists can sing too, but there are only a hand full of their songs I actually like....unlike Enya's songs - of which each and every single one speaks to the soul.

Well perhaps she simply views making music as a private passion as opposed to a self-important media-hyped cult status that involves divulging personal information to people who worship celebrities. The concept is definitely bizarre but intriguing.

I envy her lifestyle. I love her music, at whatever pace she chooses to produce it. She is eccentric. I am, too. So I respect that part of her personality. Her music enriches my world, and I thank her for that gift.
