It breaks my heart to rewatch this knowing he closed shop this year. His videos have been very handy and uplifting for me entering into my lifelong career. I wish him well and hope he's handling the trauma he's experienced well. Love always
Wow man. I dicovered specialty coffee through Dark Horse back in early 2014. I used to only buy coffee from there and I vaguely remember you. We just got our 2kg roaster and I got my first bag of greens from Inter American Coffee. I recognised a lady there that used to work at Bean Bar. What a small world. This was good video. Congrats on staring your own business.!
Good introduction of yourself but I found the content to be a little bit vague. The advice "do the research" is good but not great- go into details like what stuffs we should be looking into in particular, if you really want to educate people :) Anyway all the best for your venture
Cool intro. We all have a story that brought us to specialty coffee. I am a new roaster in Northern MN but I've been a barista for 7+ years. I have no desire for a storefront ATM but I want other people to enjoy good coffee. I hate to see a line at starbucks/caribou/Dunn brothers. Also, Dogwood is great up here in MN. If you're ever in OK check out Topeka - they have a great product.
great stuff man, I am actually looking to start at company my self.. I currently own a coffee farm in Nicaragua and I am working on developing a company in the US to sell my product.. I am in love with the process of coffee planting and cultivation which i have experience on. I am working on learning about roasting which I am super new.

Hey - love the vid. I've got a similar story as I was a barista and just started at a local roastery. Currently saving for something bigger than a popcorn popper!
Dear Sir, I can provide you Ethiopian coffee beans with best price directly from our farm. If you are interested let me know. My contact number is 00971555880125.
This is great advice. I started roasting 2 years ago & want to start a business 6 years from now when i retire from my current job. I am moving back to the United States in a year & plan on buying a professional roaster. Right now i am contemplating between brands. I saw some of your previous videos of you roasting on Mill City & now a San Franciscan. How do you compare the two? I see myself probably locking myself into a brand as i want to buy a smaller roaster around 1kg as a profile roaster & then step up to a larger roaster to start a business when the time comes while still keeping the smaller roaster for profile development. .
I am a combat wounded veteran and I have been looking at this for a while. I have been experimenting the behmore 1600 at home. I use a wheelchair at home so I have been looking for something that I can do from home as a hobby that could possibly turn into something bigger. A nonprofit built my home to be wheelchair accessible and I do walk to on a prosthetic through most of the day. I have always been passionate about coffee. I took a french press with me to Afghanistan and brewed coffee while in the field. Getting hot water was a little difficult sometimes. I actually made coffee while out on mission outside the wire all the time. Some of that water we used was probably a little sketchy but thats what chlorine tablets are for lol. I am currently looking at getting a 2kg roaster by Ambex.

I want to connect with you somehow and if it is possible if you have some forum I can hop on you would recommend. I've wanted to get into learning on how to roast coffee and been wanting to take the next step and finally execute what I learned.
this is fantastic I love this video I started roasting coffee in it in a popcorn machine now I'm doing in a hot top. I have 1 client now and since having that client I've had so many other roasters offered to contract roast for me. I enjoy roasting so I have declined them

What are the chances you would do a video about where to find some of the resources to do the research? Keep up the good work and where can I get some tired eyes coffee?

I'd like to know your approach to gaining new clients. Are you wholesale focused or retail? My roastery is around 3 years old, but I have a lot of trouble gaining new clients. They either are already loyal to another brand, or they're a startup that never leaves the ground.
How would one go about funding all of this? That would make a dope video. My strategy at the moment is to have a contract roaster in place who supplies me with roasted beans which I sell off in order to save the profit to invest in a roaster somewhere down the line.
Hi Andrew, My advice is to watch and listen to people with real life experience in these things. I found great value in everything Gary Vaynerchuck puts out. Lots of strategy based information that'll help you find your direction.
I was glad I stumbled on your video. I too am obsessed with coffee. I'm in the research process of sourcing it to include importation as well as the roasting and marketing. I am selling on line. How can we contact you for more information about your brand?
Hey bro am an immigrant base in Boston, own my coffee farm in Africa but we sell mostly raw coffee to , roasting coffee may add more value to my product but is difficult navigating the market since am local farmer , need ur help
Great video! I started following you on Instagram shortly after you launched. Love the coffee industry. What roaster did you purchase first to get started with Tired Eyes? Thank you.
Hey man I really like your videos and the way you started your business. My situation and I already invested in an espresso machine but would like to do my own roasting as well for a small business apart from my day job. I'd like to get more training on roasting. How would you compare the mill city training to the roasters guild. I know you havent attended the mill cities but considering you did your research and you own a mill city roaster. What's your opinion
Hey Chaz. I think you should go to Mill City's course. Roasters Guild is a ton of fun and a great place to learn, but it is also very much clouded by the sheer number of people that attend. Mill City's course will be an easier way to get direct and easily applicable information.
Great videos, I see you haven't posted anything in a long time. How has the business been growing? I a looking to get into coffee roasting and this helps.
It's been growing and doing well! We just signed a lease on our first ever retail space. Thanks for watching and I hope you stay tuned for lots of new videos to come!

Hey man! Like you I love everything about coffee. I’m known as the “coffee guy” at work because I a world full of k-cups, I bring a grinder and French press to work lol Ive been thinking, I want to start roasting my own beans for myself and friends alike. However I’m having trouble deciding which path I want to take as far as roasting goes. Do I start out real small and get a stove top roaster or do I get a basket/drum roaster that would fit on a tabletop? The other idea I’ve been considering is building my own roaster, but then again, which style do I go for? Any tips and advice would be great! Thanks in advance!

I've been looking at starting a small coffee brand locally! Thanks for sharing your experience!

Started my coffee roasting career at the now defunkt Deaf Dog Coffee in 1998. Here I am now, ready to purchase my own roaster!

That's exciting stuff! Roasting is an endless rabbit hole of information but that's what keeps it fun. You'll always be learning.

Wow thanks.I am looking expanding in networking with coffee owners to research and learn what I need to know to create my own brand.

A friend of mine's a doctor, and his words about 'Burning sensation' - "acidity from drinking too much coffee".

Keep doing the videos no matter what.Don't give up.
Eventually your channel will grow.
Make a fb page - that won't hurt one bit.
Thanks a bunch!!
can't wait to see what other videos you create!!
what resources did you use to better equip yourself when building or business? (book, websites, forums, etc)
