    Great video! One thing I would add is a cinder block with the holes horizontal so the minnows have a place to hide and cut down on stress.

      Thanks! I recently hooked up a water pump and a hydroponics system into the tank as well. Now I have plants cleaning the tank and feeding the plants at the same time! Still works great! Oh, and I did end up putting a hose at the bottom of the tank so when I drain it I can just pull the plug. And then when I fill it I just connect it to the hose and turn the water on. Way easier!

    Love the simplicity of this build. I’ve had some Fathead minnows alive for 3 weeks now in just a 5 gal bucket with a aerator (Jan 7 thru 26-2023 Florida weather), Well water, and a little bit of bread crumbs. Kinda worried about keeping the water cool in the heat in my shed but I have some frozen water bottles ready 😂. I guess that’s about all I can do with such a small setup but does anyone know of another way….that’s portable to keep the water temperature cool enough to survive per say 103° heat?😢

    I like it. I cut my drum horizontally and made a cradle. using the same stuff from Walmart. I am in Texas keeping mud minnows (salt water) alive. works great. I transport the water home in my boat live well. only problem is catching them they are fast. I do have a lid they will jump out.

    I build my own aerators from simple materials. I get a cheap 12v bilge pump. Take a eight inch square of one inch thick styrofoam. Cut a circle out of the center of the foam that is just large enough for the intake of the pump to fit in. Tie rap the pump to the foam. Place it in the tank with the pump being fed by a battery or 12v transformer. It will practically foam the water with air. Decades ago most bait camps had large troughs for bait and had large aerators that hung down in the tanks. This works nearly as well and shouldn't cost more than $30 to build. I should mention it floats upside down intaking air from above and blowing water and air out under the foam.

    One suggestion: remove the intake basket and slip a filter sponge on the tube. (not all the way up, just about an inch). It will keep your impeller from getting so gummed up so quickly.

    Nice bait tank ive got a good friend making me one and hes making him one also. One question is why didnt you just hang your filter unit over the wood? Instead of screwing it to the board? Also would have been nice if you would have added your light up front more. Great job tho we like the idea and should hold lots of crappie minnows.

    • @natesatrang
      @natesatrang  4 года назад +5

      Yeah i guess i could have. Never thought of it. Screwing it in just seemed like the way to go at the time. I would recommend not putting the rocks in though. I found after time they just hold all the crap. I drained it a while back and put a couple cinder blocks in it instead which keeps it way cleaner. I also moved the filter up a little from where i originally mounted it. simply to hold more water. The next thing i will do is hook up a small water pump so when i drain it for the summer i can just click on the pump. If you are doing one and want to use it throughout the summer i would get yourself a cooler so they keep better. Then they dont stink either. (as bad anyways) I apologize for the delay in response. I didn't see your message. Other then that its been AWESOME! I use it all winter and have very few minnows die. I just filled it last night. Just started ice fishing again for the year! Went out once and caught some South Dakota Gold! 12-14 inch perch! Cant wait to get back out!

  • @rram6426
    @rram6426 6 лет назад +1

    Good job on the Project Brother!
    Why did you go with 2 aerators? why different models? Why not 1 higher capacity aerator and use a Y-splitter to hit different areas in well?
    I like the filter system you used! Did you consider using a water pump with an in-line filter?
    Did you end up re-positioning the light fixture so the pump/aerator mount wouldn't block the fish from the light?

    • @natesatrang
      @natesatrang  6 лет назад +1

      Raul Ramos I had the smaller one laying around, so I figured the more air the better. The one I bought says it can aerate up to 60 gallons. So that one probably would have been sufficient, but I wasn't using the other one so I figured what the hell. And the light I did end moving back a little because it was blocking a little light. But I had already moved it prior to shooting the video.
