As a new player, my goals are to build DoT, FUA, and Mono Quantum with Qingque, as I believe these three playstyles to be the most unique and satisfying from everything I’ve seen.
I witnessed the genesis of DoT… from the serval asta era to triple nihility mommy team. A cinematic masterpiece… just when you thought the ceiling of DoT couldn’t be raised further. Thank you for this transcendent experience
Not having HH or Black Swan, I think an Abundance/Pres unit that leeches through DoTs would be the final piece missing for that playstyle. Aven is looking to be that for FUA (though you could say Jade would finish up the IPC FUA comp) so if we get a DoT sustain, then any variant of DoT comp should be perfect
I love that DoT can cheese everything no matter the enemy weakness. Kafka was the only reason I played this game till penacony anyway. Now there are other things keeping me here too. But Kafka will always be there.
With the release of Acheron I genuinely think Kafka is the highest pull value Damage dealer in the game. As the powercreep reaches to DOT units she will only get stronger and will always be viable even if another DOT detonator got released
Very cool history. It's nuts for me who the meta DoT team is the first actual team I built (minus huohuo) and it's been a game changer for me the moment it came together. Crazy to know it was not great at first. I have actually been questioning if the next abundance will somehow be better than huohuo for DoT. But I think a more crit based abundance makes more sense next? Wild guess tho.
Honestly we might call jingyuan the most buffed character but unironically kafka has gotten way more buffs than him with the dot team. She has more viable teammates than she knows what to do with, silver, huohuo, swan, the 4* DOT brigade, the 4* debuffers, sets and planar ornaments to buff dot characters, ruan mei buffing the multi dps core more than any other core in the game at the moment. And then finally acheron, who isnt a DOT character per say but she synergizes with nihility.
Kafka is probably the most future proofed character in the game right now because each DOT unit released will need her until someone else can consistently re-proc DOTs
I’m glad I pulled for Kafka when she first came out and I built Sampo for her and now I have Ruan mei, Black Swan, Huohuo and now Acheron for her and my best team so far
there are two ways to damage that I absolutelly love in this game. DoT's (I got Kafka and Black Swan day one thats proof enough) and Follow-up attacks. Both are satisfying as hell. I mean who doesnt love a mind controlling psycho nuking the entire enemy team in the most gorgeous way possible. Or who doesnt love a cocky smart bastard throwing a fucking chalk and taking away half the health of a boss. a true L + Ratio moment there. I got my DoT team all decked out Maybe I need to build Gui but thats for later. Right now I gotta build Aventurine and save for Topaz
The best part about Kafka is that she can detonate any dot, and it doesn't have to be nihility... i expect future dot characters from different paths (like preservation/ abundance/ erudition/ hunt/ destruction etc) - Kafka will work with them without any issue. Because if u see the Trend of the Universal Market LC, I feel like they will release a dot preservation character one day that can use it nicely. HSR often seems to release characters that somehow can use a certain existing LC and also bring kits that exist within simulated universe blessings... that's how I knew DOT was gonna be a big part of nihility meta. Because most nihility LC are for dot and break effect.
While Ruan Mei is best in slot for DOT teams, I don't see her as a DOT specific buffer. Her buffs are just universal. I can see further down the line another 5 star DOT Nihility on the side of Guinafen. We already have Black Swan who squeezed in Sampo and Pela. A 5 Star Nihility who could just be better Guin (stronger firekiss, stronger DOT and another gimmick for being a 5 star) would push the DOT meta further.
I’m using a team of Acheron, Aventurine, Kafka and Black Swan (if need be, I swap Acheron for Huohuo for double sustainer) and it’s great. I don’t have a FUA team so that’s why Aventurine is with my DoT team and with Kafka’s FUA and the debuffs given by Aventurine’s ultimate and his FUA (thanks to the light cone), this team works quite well.
I have an interesting idea but makes Some DOT character locked Imagine adding HSR adding DoT to Ice, Imaginary and Quantum Characters. Sound crazy Right? But what if It's specific to that one character like how black swan has a new version of Wind DoT or Guinaifen with her Firekiss Maybe like this: New Ice Character: (random name) Skill: Blast Atk. Deals 130% atk to main target and 75% to adjacent targets, Has A 100% Base Chance to Apply *Icy Eclipse* To the enemy Talent: Whenever this Character Attacks, Has a Base Chance of 60% to apply *Icy Eclipse* to the enemy Icy Eclipse: Every time The Enemy takes a turn they will Be Dealt with Ice Damage Equal to 70%-110% (scales with Talent Level) of the Character's Atk. (this damage is considered DoT but CAN CRIT with a Max crit damage of 90%/95%/100%/105%/110% depending on how many stacks of Icy Eclipse there is on the Enemy. Up to 5 stacks) Or an Imaginary DoT character: *Random Name* Talent: Whenever the User Attacks The Enemy with Skill Or Ultimate have a 100% Base Chance to Apply *Disintegration* Disintegration: every time an enemy takes a turn deal Imaginary damage equal to 70%/80%/90%/100%/110% (scales with Talent Level) of attack to the enemy afflicted with This Debuff. Additionally, Delays the Enemy's Next Turn if they are afflicted with this debuff by 1% per stack to a maximum of 10 stacks. (This Debuff is considered as DoT and Cannot Crit.) And finally a Quantum DoT character: Basically the same as before but like imaginary dot that delays and ice dot that crits, quantum also has something special that makes the DoT deal 1% more damage at 1 stack and 10% more damage from ALL DoTs at full 10 stacks for each turn the Enemy takes when they are afflicted with it, I don't got anymore names so yeahhh this is basically it, and all 3 have their Attack scaling from the Talent level because only that character can have this DoT, if ever HSR somehow adds something similar to this, Then the Quantum one would be the best support to DoT ever. And the Ice one would probably deal the most DoT damage while the Imaginary one would be a great support to delay the enemies so we can apply more stacks of DoT to deal more damage when Kafka Uses Her Skill and Ult, But maybe in the future we somehow use DoT teams without kafka idk

Depending which content you choose. Shield will be brought to meta since most enemy mechanic in penacony can almost one shot your character, and also aventurine skill is like on demand gepard ult and can stack too.
i dot with gepard and huo huo. Although Huo Huo has nice buffs, the increase in damage is not enough to make the gameplay more fun. If you see the healing is better than the shield, it may be worth waiting.
Wait bro huohuo was the first half of 1.5 bc i remember i didnt want her amd i wanted argenti but the tail VA won me over and i pulled huohuo instead of argenti and ruan mei drip market drop resulting in my abandoning to get argenti
Dot just simply avoids the pain of having to hunt down crit for character builds. It's the most simplest archetype in terms of character building but super satisfying and fun to play.
Sadly, I had to skip Black Swan for sparkle, but I'm patiently waiting for that rerun. I really only need a good wind, dps and fire dps, and I'll have every element covered
I play Kafka in 2 styles. DoT dps and DoT sub dps with acheron as dps. I was lucky enough to get Kafka, black swan, Huo Huo and Acheron day one. I can constantly make consintant damage with this team thanks to Kafka's follow up atk to quickly enable acheron's ult while also making damage with Kafka due to black swans arcana.
I’ve played the entire game without looking at run through and without any outside help except certain boss fights (fuckn adventurine was impossible) and I made this team combo without knowing anything about it
Topaz ratio and aventurine will be a solid team. Topaz and ratio follow ups will trigger aventurine blind bet points thus triggering aventurine's follow up which then trigger more numby follow ups. Pair in robin and you have a really solid team.
Toshi, what is the damage comparison between hypercarry playstyle and DOT? I understand that people normally deviate towards hypercarry in these games, however DPS in that category fall off really hard sometimes. I have an Acheron and enjoy playing her, but i don't know will she remain relevent like Kafka (enabler) or even our modern supports like ruan mei. Hope to hear from you.
My two cents is she will be relevant for a long while. Her damage ceiling is already so high and she's overkilling at this point. So that makes it a safe bet she'll be able to handle more tanks enemies in the future. Additionally she will likely be getting a tailor made 5 star nihility support in the future so her value can only improve
If hoyoverse history is anything to go by, Acheron is just the new best DPS, like Jingliu was and DHIL before her and Seele before all of that. She will be powercrept in the span of some months probably like all hypercarries, she will still deal solid damage but unlike Specialists and Supports she will be dropped down way sooner. General rule of thumb is to invest more in long-term units instead of "the best" of those 3 months
Robin existence is proof that there will be a dedicated support for DOT in the future....Follow up teams have Robin, Hyper-carry have Sparkle/Bronya. The only team left for a 5 star dedicated support is DOT.
Guinaifen would be a featured 4 star in topaz's banner ending up replacing himeko in Kafka teams as she not only had better personal damage but easier sex ability???? Did I hear that right?🤨

currently, my team is Kafka, Black Swarm, Huo Huo and Acheron. I hope they release another mommy type in abundance so that I can put her on my team. or may be Preseration coz I only have Fu Xuan for now.
DOT application counted as debuff and DOT characters are nihility characters. Acheron need debuff applicator to proc her ult and 2 nihility characters to boost/maximize her dmg (unless you have her at e2 which reduced it to 1). That's why DOT characters have good synergy with Acheron.
I like to believe that DOT kills the enemy by giving them emotional damage. It’s just that Kafka helps awaken their trauma a bit faster.
I mean… Black Swan is canonically using her enemies trauma against them so…

DOT is basically the closest thing you can get to elemental reaction in Star Rail, which is why it is so satisfying

DOT for me is the easiest to build mostly you just need atk% to deal massive damage

currently, my team is Kafka, Black Swarm, Huo Huo and Acheron. I hope they release another mommy type in abundance so that I can put her on my team. or may be Preseration coz I only have Fu Xuan for now.

I like the playstyle, but like now that Acheron came out, why bother? TBH why bother anything other than Acheron.
DOT application counted as debuff and DOT characters are nihility characters.
Acheron need debuff applicator to proc her ult and 2 nihility characters to boost/maximize her dmg (unless you have her at e2 which reduced it to 1).
That's why DOT characters have good synergy with Acheron.
nuh uh: frontloaded crit > fua > dot > mid yuan

"oh yea dot is fun and satisfying" -spams kafka in every team-
But this is not Near Death Playstyle... JL Blade is more satisfying
