    Former aquarist turned science teacher here. Couple of tips:
    1: Don’t use table salt to mimic saltwater. It’s not the same.
    2: fresh water is fine for a few weeks, they live in areas that get flooded with freshwater. If you want to keep them for a long while maybe look into a cheap dechlorinator in the aquarium section.
    3: females are chill and not aggressive. Males (ones with the big claws) are territorial, so if it’s going to be more than a few days, toss all but 1-2 of the males and you will save the group.
    4: dog food is good. They need less food than what you think. Better to under feed than over.

      Cat food?

    • @Cordeneaux87
      @Cordeneaux87 Год назад

      @@retrotaint8260 dog food has grains and fruit, so closer to their actual diet. Cats cannot digest anything but meat, so cat foods are not good for other omnivores.
      (Update) I realize we are talking about keeping them for bait, so in context, they will stay alive on cat food for a few days yes.

    We have a “crabitat” in our house. They keep for a long time if you take care of them on an every other day basis

    HeyThey absolutely do escape! I just put a dozen in a cooler without the lid and I had to go and hunt 3 of them down! And the dog was after them, too! Inside the house, lol. None of their friends were helping keep them in the pack!

    During the time of the year, right now, that it's the best to catch sheepshead, fiddler crabs are the hardest to catch
    It's a daunting task therefore to find them in the winter at bait stores. So I keep mine for weeks on end even months rotating them out periodically when I use them to go fishing. So use Marsh sand in a bucket with a good service area and depth to store enough of them, get a turtle light, and splash em with aquarium salt water from time to time
    Works great for me for the Winter months when sheepshead are the best to Target.. they are so easy to catch in the summer, I couldn't imagine anyone wasting money at a bait shop for them lmaooo

    Another fun video... You definitely have the right energy. Unfortunately the rotten smell will take longer to go away than it did to get there. Lol. Thanks for the laughs at the end of a long day sir ! Much needed.

    You can commonly see that in our country especially at work and we call it ‘crab mentality’. People will try to pull you down no matter what.

  • @kaitlynhuertas1346
    @kaitlynhuertas1346 6 лет назад +1

    That is the exact OPPOSITE way to keep fiddler crabs alive. First of all they need a warm environment and second of all you don't feed CRABS DOG FOOD

    Looks like you guys had some fog up there too. Was crazy in New Smyrna Beach. Didn't lift a few times until early afternoon. First time I've seen that here, usually gone by like 9-10 am at the latest.
