    • @KingsWithAndy
      @KingsWithAndy 8 месяцев назад

      Also found tiny little zman softbaits (trout sized) work best for the skippy. Or edge bait lures 7-10g ones…. The get really picky when things are a bit bigger

    • @NomadicKayakFishing
      @NomadicKayakFishing  8 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks man. My advice is to start small and build up from their, invest in quality gear that you can add to later rather than needing to replace.best bits of kit starting out for me were a comfortable seat, good quality life jacket and a paddle leash. As for fish finders I recommend reading online reviews specific to kayak fishing befor u buy any electronic. Some companies like to lie about the water proofing... tight lines bro!

    Great vid. Great catch. How did that Skippy taste? I think they are totally inedible, couldnt get passed swallowing the 1st mouthful...and not even my cat would eat it. Only fit for bait in my opinion. Apparently needs to be extremely well bled and kept on ice to taste close to decent.

    • @NomadicKayakFishing
      @NomadicKayakFishing  8 месяцев назад +1

      Mate I'm not sure what you did... but that couldn't be true. That skipjack was arguably the most delicious I've ever eaten. Coated in Cajun seasoning and seared in butter, kept it raw in the center and it was beautiful. Tasted like an eye fillet steak.

    • @robhenson480
      @robhenson480 8 месяцев назад

      Clearly I did something wrong on 1st attempt....it was genuinely revolting. Some of my mates have had the same experience. Guess it's in the bleeding,
      keeping it in good condition and eating it same day.

    • @NomadicKayakFishing
      @NomadicKayakFishing  8 месяцев назад +1

      I think bleeding it and keeping it cold is key. I ate that skipjack for 4 days and it was still fresh, honestly I couldn't rate it higher

    Brilliant, the tuna was a beauty, and so was the kingfish and snapper. A buffet of big dog fish!. What soft boat rod and reel combo do you recommend for soft baiting?

    • @NomadicKayakFishing
      @NomadicKayakFishing  6 месяцев назад +1

      thanks man. for soft baiting most of the combos nowadays will get the job done it just depends on your budget and how long you want it to last. I typically recommend a 7ft 4-8kg rod paired with a 2500-4000 size spin reel. hope that helps

    Hey mate, I'm really enjoying your channel. Keep up the good work! I really appreciate your descriptions of the lures and techniques you use. You've obviously picked up a lot of knowledge. What made you get so into fishing from the kayak and how did you accrue all the skills? That might be something to discuss in a future episode. It's cool to see such a young fulla getting right into something. I'd also be interested to hear about what kind of work you do and how you work your fishing in around that. Also, how do you choose where in the country to go next? How do you pick your weather windows? I've just recently got into kayak fishing and I'm loving it. Planning to go out from Pataua, near where I live, after seeing your episode there.

    • @NomadicKayakFishing
      @NomadicKayakFishing  8 месяцев назад +3

      Thanks mate, that means a lot. I guess I grew up fishing from a dinghy with my dad, we would go sailing in our yatch without a motor and always chat shit about all the trailer boats burning fuel, one thing led to another and I wound up falling in love with fishing from small man powered boats. As for learning how to fish I'm mostly self taught, my dad only ever used hand lines and bait so I had to teach myself to fish in the modern way. Probably too much to talk about in a video, would just be an hour of me yapping 🤣 Goodluck off pautau, watch the tide in that river mouth it absolutely pumps. Tight lines bro!

      @@NomadicKayakFishing I don't think it's too much to mention in a video. People are always interested in human stories. Would only add more depth to your content. Cheers for replying! I look forward to your next episode.

    Another mean vid bro, always look forward to your vids. What combo are you using to pull them kingi up with?

    • @NomadicKayakFishing
      @NomadicKayakFishing  8 месяцев назад +1

      Cheers bro, so stoked your liking the vids. The combo is a torium 16hg reel with a backbone elite PE 3-6 rod. If I were to get a new jig combo I'd probably opt for a slightly heavier rod, something in the 4-8 PE Range👍

    what lb line were your running for the fat king? I'd be worried about attracting sharks bleeding out the fish in the water like that

    • @NomadicKayakFishing
      @NomadicKayakFishing  4 месяца назад

      PE 5 (50lb braid). I get more nervous about the sharks when the fish are still alive, that's when most of the problems start..

    • @NomadicKayakFishing

      I don't like nets, they take up too much space and cause mega windage. Plus I don't have room to keep one in my van. My diy lip Gaff does the job just fine
