I've been maining greninja for the last 2 years and I cant describe how happy seeing this made me. When it seemed that just about everybody has given up on greninja
There is one thing Gren has that went unmentioned. His Pivot Grab. Long story short, its huge, and outranging your enemies approaches is not unreasonable. This can cause some Meele Marth tier shenanigans. I also think people hate on Shadow Sneak a lot. It's not a core part of his kit, but between reading airdodges and platform techs, recovery mixups, and even the gimmicky frame 1 parry, it has plenty of situations where it adds to his moveset in a meaningful way. I say this because I heard people comparing it to Side-B's like Egg Roll, Rollout and Hammer Flip. How you can think Shadow Sneak is even close to these is beyond me.
Fully charged shuriken at the ledge into full range shadow sneak is a true combo and kills even super heavies at about 40 percent. It's disgusting and probably the most dishonest part of Gren's kit XD
Those two rolling moves are a special kind of sucky. Not even Hammer Flip compares. And yea, remember how many people looked at Bowser's big pivot grab? Greninja's is bigger.
im gonna say this since I never see anyone mention this: Hydro Pump in neutral is an effective way to mess with people's air momentum. Characters that like to land with low landing lag aerials are left hanging in the air, which makes their move more vulnerable to a dash attack or other punish, and the bubbles from hydro pump each deal around 1-2%, making it an additional projectile to stall and camp with in some scenarios. Everyone focuses on hydro pump as an offstage tool, and they never seem to recognize the potential it has in neutral. Its like a better version of fludd imo
Here are a few things worth noting: 1. Dash Attack > IDJ Fair is actually at its best when ledge trapping. It's active for 5 frames, and since regular getup is reactable, you time it so the last few frames hits the opponent. If it does, it true combos into IDJ fair, and there are some percents where it true combos even when the opponent di's away (That's also because you're closer to the opponent this way than you would normally). This also isn't too hard to get since greninja can condition it thanks to his other great ledge trapping options. If the opponent tries to avoid it, you can just use his other ledge trapping options to cover them. 2. There are certain percents where dtilt > IDJ fair is better and more consistent than dtilt >full hop Fair. This is also because of the games buffer system and short hop macro making dtilt >full hop fair a bit inconsistent sometimes. 3. The other reason you might use hydro pump when juggling opponents is because each individual hitbox counts as their own hit, so it can be used to unstale your future moves so you either get better confirms or just better kill moves since they'll most likely be fresh. Otherwise, this was a great guide.
Literally sitting here going, "I wish there was an art of greninja video." Thanks! Also everyone is clamouring about Apolotion and they are absolutely right!
This guide is great, and any Gren mains who wants more GREAT guides should visit Apolotion’s multiple and deep greninja guides! Best character guides in all yt
I know Greninja isn't considered a top tier, but theres something just so satisfying about playing him. He feels like such an honest character in the sense that everytime you land a hit you feel like it was truly because you outsmarted your opponent, he is such a fun character to play.
this is a really good guide for people who understand the game and want to try out greninja. I actually have nothing to add besides the fact that you can combo nair into footstool dair for even more combo routes and strings. Amazing video and i would totally recommend this vid to anyone trying out greninja!
Holy sheet, this was an amazing guide! I learned so many things about Greninja that I never knew. My mind was blown when I saw counter used diagonally, and the hitbox extension with the log/substitute. So sick!
Great video as always, Izaw. Definitely seeing a lot more potential with Greninja than I first imagined. Could you do an Art of Corrin video next? I know you did one for Sm4sh, but I think there's some differences in Ultimate. Anyway, thanks for the great content!
Been thinking of picking up Greninja for Ganondorf and Lucario as my other 2 mains, been having a character crisis for ages but finally things are clicking
For some reason this didn’t appear in my sub box or recommended, I can’t believe this came out 10 days ago. My favorite training buddy plays greninja, super excited to learn more
Always love your guides, and was considering giving Greninja a try recently, and am once again finding your explanations and pacing here on point as usual ^_^
I've loved Greninja's design since its release in Smash4, such a technical and dinamic character.... I've always considered it upper to top tier, but it only goes to show how powerscaling works for Smash as the character has practically no competitive results and other characters are considered far stronger
There is a few things he can do. But I am learning myself. Like run back and use his insane reverse grab range and punish if you see the aerial coming. But I also don't know if jab can be a punish or even if power shield is a proper punish either for the frame advantage afterwards. Also that is if you get better frame advantage from a power shield in the first place. I am picking him up as a secondary now. Seems fun. Not sure if he would stay as secondary pick. But it looks that way right now and I like him. Edit: There is also up tilt. Not sure if it can out prioritize other moves or if it is entangable. There is also up special in being his recovery to squirt out a small amount of water to push back and deal like 2 or 3 percent health. He can be annoying by the looks of it tbh. Maybe to a smart player that can really master him. He looks to be smart and technical. I am sort of into him right now because of the amount of stuff he can do. Also there is a chance that he can do a lot more than what others think. His up special looks like it can be used in a lot of ways. But I may be wrong. I know anti air is one. But also knocking them off of platforms is another. Also edgeguarding and way more. It seems under used tbh. But Greninja isn't shown to the max yet. That is how I feel. Like a smart and swift and technical player can make him shine. Granted there are a lot of strong Greninja players. But he just seems like he offers a lot. That is just my opinion. Edit 2: I posted comment before watching. Also again.. you have to be extremely smart to use him. Also technical. From what I watched from you. It's a smart and technical fighter that is hard to master.
I love playing Greninja and I can consistently pull of his basic combos and kill confirms but I feel like I start losing the more I keep playing him against the same player because his play style becomes predictable. I feel like at first he’s amazing and can really throw off your opponent and make them feel helpless but after they learn the matchup it becomes significantly harder to win. I will admit I need to play him more though and work on mixing up my play style more
Hey, Izaw! I’ve just discovered your channel, and I really love everything you’re putting out! I have been playing Smash for only a few months now, and I was playing DK pretty frequently, but I realized now that I need to pick up a character that has wider limits for me to push. So, I started to play Byleth recently. It would mean a lot if you eventually made a Art of Byleth video! Regardless, thanks for all of the awesome content, your passion for the game really shines through in your videos! :) Edit: I just realized you already have a Byleth guide… Now I’m excited to watch it!
I feel like more people need to talk about tilting to the top corner for RAR B-Air instead of just tilting backwards to not accidentally trigger a backdash
tip for edgegaurds: you don't need to time a down air to spike. if your opponent is offstage, go to them. if they attack or up b, use down special and tilt the stick down. it spikes and you can recover. well, kind of because tilting down makes you go to a downward direction so when you spike it brings you down too, so this is recommended when your opponent is near the ledge.
My detail vision while looking at a TV screen is mediocre at best, so I can’t see the shadow when using Greninja’s Shadow Sneak. I had to just become an expert at timing it. Now I depend on it for surprising other fighters when they come out of shield. I throw a small shuriken, they shield, I use Shadow Sneak to end up just behind them so when they come out of shield and do a move I hit them in the back.
I don't play greninja and i never will. Watched all of the video. Keep it up! Edit: After watching this for a second time I play geninja occasionally in friendlies!
I will always play Greninja for the last years ever since I play him in Wii U and now I play him in Ultimate. I have experience with Greninja and I want to be a good Greninja player and I also be that person to keep going to the next level and I’ll never replace greninja with someone in smash.

Greninja is actually one of my 2 mains along with Byleth
I main greninja, finally got him to 6 mil gsp the other day, so happy(I don't really play him too much online)
i secondary him as of yesterday
Ik im late but should I have Tilt attack or smash attack with Greninja

Wall cling shadow sneak charge tech is ridiculous. But yeah ur right abt the pivot grab, the opposite of his abomination of a dash grab

You can cheese bowsers who use up b onstage near ledge too, or link or similar characters. Free stock

You can also Dtilt idj or dj bair, for consistent kills at the ledge, but it is a bit hard to get the instant turnaround. Anyway Lea does it a lot :D

Yeah, no kidding. He's so fast but linear that he's basically just telling people he knows where they're gonna be before they get there.
I absolutly can't wait to watch the Pokemon Trainer one. Keep going with the amazing work !
Yeah love pt and Greninja

rare footage of greninja actually angry
Every time I sit down and watch and art of I leave wondering "since when was X character so sick?!"
This time proved no exception.
Learned so much about a character people rarely play. Thanks for the guide!
Top tier quality as expected, thanks Izaw. Looking forward to Wii Fit and Megaman
I needed this! Not that I want to play greninja, but I play against so many in tournament and can’t win, and maybe I’ll play him later on :)
