Best thing I've found is to buy an oil wrench that has a 1/2 drive...so you can put a box end wrench on it (mine is 21mm) and put the 3/8 extension through the center. Pull the center cap, insert the drain fitting, drain oil, and then turn the main filter housing off. No fuss, no muss. :) The wrench is around $9 on Amazon.
after watching other videos, it shows that when you turn the "plug" with a 3/8" socket, it turns that filter drain plug to drain the oil from the filter(?) then you use the special adapter to turn the housing canister(?) I hope to not have to buy that housing tool but i'm worried that the filter drain plug will turn independently of the housing(?)
+Ed Yue Hi. Yes, most likely it will turn independently. As a commenter said, you can find the tool on eBay for$10. Maybe you can use a very large adjustable wrench to help turn the housing, but you'll have to be careful to not damage the housing doing it. Or if you have a strap wrench, that'll probably do the trick.
Hi. I just used a 3/8" ratchet. You don't need to use any sockets. It may or may not turn just the center drain or the whole housing. If the housing doesn't turn, then you can use a strap wrench to remove.
+Michael Engle I don't have the special tool to hold the outer portion while listening the middle part. So the messy way is the way I do it. Just like the canister filters. :)
Ebay sells the Toyota oil filter wrench adapter for $10 or less and Harbor Freight or .99 cent store sells some funnel. Sometimes Harbor Freight have coupon for FREE microfiber cloth (4 pcs) so that would help with the mess ;-) great video regardless...
I wish they had the oil filter at the top like other Toyota's. I.e. My 2004 4Runner - so easy to change the filter too in between oil changes with zero mess.
What pressure? Okay removing or loosening the filler cap will give a place for air to go in while the oil is coming out but with the engine oil being warm and only OW-20, it will flow out just fine. Still it's a good practice to make sure you can loosen the filler cap before draining the oil so you'll have a place to refill the engine without resorting to using a small funnel to pour it down the dipstick tube.
Yes. Mainly, to access the oil filter and drain plug. If you're not comfortable going under the car, then best to bring it to a mechanic. Especially, if you are not sure on how to raise the car safely (w/ jackstands).
you forgot to change out the small gasket and you could have done it without so much mess if you took off the small plate on the oil filter and used the drain tool that comes with each filter.
+Rick Louie Thanks. I don't have the tool to remove that plate, so I just do it the messy way. As others mention, there is a tool available on eBay. I'll try to link something on the description for others to find...
The oil is usually measured at 1 end of the oil pan. So, if the car is tilted, then the oil could be tilted one side of the pan. This would give you a measure that is either too high or too low. Then you would end up over or under filling your oil. I did re-measure after I brought the car down, but did not include the shot in the video.
You don't need to bother the small gasket since it is not being taken apart the big gasket on the canister yes replace it. Dumb idea why toyota even make that stupid little gasket so you don't make a mess. The stupid little gasket shouldn't be there in the first place dumb ass design. Of couse taking oil filter or canister out alway make a mess. That why you get a oil drain pan to catch all this mess up oil into the pan. I hope this help alot ;)
I don't see why you call it dumb. There's nothing dumb about giving people a choice. Some people will puncture the bottom of a spin-on filter that's mounted vertically to drain it before taking it off this extending that option to those who prefer it. Nothing dumb about that.
So straightforward and easy to follow along, thanks for the video.
Easy and simple oil change thanks for sharing ;)

Thank you.
It works but would have been better if you had pulled the plug in the filter housing😁

As it should...
Didn't see you change the small o- ring.
I guess I forgot to record the o-ring change. But yeah changed all the o-rings that come with the filter.
FUNNEL
How the fcuk you could undo your filter housing that easy...
how do you like the sienna any maintenance problems?
It's a Toyota. 😉 Just followed normal maintenance schedule and had no problems.
its a toyota thanks for the reply
I'm thanks for the video
Hey, what tools are you using to get the oil filter housing out? Can you give me the size and name?
Hi. I just used a 3/8" ratchet. You don't need to use any sockets. It may or may not turn just the center drain or the whole housing. If the housing doesn't turn, then you can use a strap wrench to remove.
RandomCar thanks
I change all my 3 cars oil change I save like 150 bucks every time
you forgot to change the small gasket....before you said ..thats it !
wondering why he didn't take that cap off and drain the oil out before taking the whole filter off. makes it a little less messy.

Sweet! I'll check out ebay and get one of them oil filter adapter.
I always like the challenge of pouring oil without a funnel. :D
Thanks!

should remove oil cap up top to let oil drain faster, lets pressure out
+Keenan Bell Good tip! Thanks.

@@stevensevek6151 6 quarts of hot oil came out more than quick enough. Get the kitty kitter.
Do you really need to go under the car?

What plate? I didn't see any plates?
Hi 👋 you forgot to drop down to level ground an then check the oil level 🤪🤪🤪
Why?
The oil is usually measured at 1 end of the oil pan. So, if the car is tilted, then the oil could be tilted one side of the pan. This would give you a measure that is either too high or too low. Then you would end up over or under filling your oil.

Cruz ✝️.. let put the car in space to measure the oil then... 🤣😂
