A friend was renewing his swimming pool decking. The company delivered all the old hardwood to my home. All the fixings were high quality stainless steel screws. I made the front gate panel, steps, garden edging...
We have a big garbage day in our town once a month from March through November. The metal scrap collectors are out in droves. There are a few people scouring for reusable articles. The good stuff mostly shows up around moving day.
Having a pickup truck is a bonus. I'm just naturally hyper aware while driving and I work near many shipping companies. Some of them have brand new lumber out back near the dumpsters from Un-crating special shipments. Also whenever I see a Roll Off dumpster that was dropped off I might stop at take a peak. Usually a remodel job and I found some great pine and stairway railings amongst other things. New construction used to be a good place to look into the roll off as well but now days they usually fence the entire property while building.
I’ve sourced some fair quality timber from fencers or people pulling out their old fences and decks. Hardwood fence pailings are great as garden borders or as panels where a ‘rustic’ look is the goal.
One thing people need to consider with a lot of the play set wood is that it’s been treated before. Not necessarily a deal breaker, just depends on the project. You also obviously need a trailer to help haul off all of the parts and then dump the remaining so not exactly viable.
Very interesting idea! I’ve been getting my dimensional stuff from construction sites. Just ask the foreman if you can rummage through their skiff of wood headed for the dump. It’ll have lots of cement boogers all over it from laying the foundation. And lots of nails and screws. But they all clean up just as good as pallet wood, just needs a bit more elbow grease. We’ve got two play sets out back. One of them our son outgrew a few years ago. But the wood is still useable I’m sure. The other one we might get rid of next year… and now I know what I’ll do with it all! Edit: Omg… the prices these people want for their ratty old play sets is bonkers! One was asking $400 😂
I found also going to static caravan parks asking for wood that would usually just get burnt on a hill, or whatever way they dispose of is a good idea, dismantling old deckings from static caravans, helps the company spending on labour dismantling and gives them a good name that they reuse old materials. I also said its a half charity business i have, i dont charge for any materials i have got for free, just labor. Including the labour to dismantle it. Any businesses that are big and dont care for salvaging good wood thats been used Especially when they are about to have a visit from managment and they need things cleared
You're spot on - I ran a construction company for a property mgmt. company and I cant count the amount of playsets, garage storage or benches, and even sheds that we had to remove when properties got rented. I even ended up with Tony Gwynn's pitching machine from one back yard. (Soon to be my 72" grinder.
Your compost got worms? Needs some? Know how to spot worm areas? You dont have to dig em up. You can use "worm churning" collect and deposit them within. Show them that, speeds up your decomp and has other uses as well of course. Cheers.
I worked as a custodian at a college. At the end of the year when all the students were taking down their lofts and throwing the lumber in the dumpster...well you know the rest of the story....
Its a great idea IMO, but I am definitely not showing my wife this video. She has been begging me to pick one up for free. There are many of them listed at any given time where I live.
@@WineberryHillIn my current area nothing unless you just happen to stumble on something while driving. When I lived in Denver, I would do scrapping on the side bc the population was bigger and you could make some good side money from scrapping.
I just gotta say man your production quality is better then multi million subscriber channels. Keep kicking butt.
I need that...thanks!

nice!
You can get ridiculous stuff in college towns. Way more than you want to deal with.

Totally agree!
Thanks for the bloopers too, now I know you're for real. What a genius idea!
thanks for watching!
Brilliant! You really are doing them a BIG favor. Dump fees are no joke.
Nice hardware too. 👍
...yeah esp around here.

Good tip!
Awesome video, and great idea! Definitely going to do some marketplace snooping with this in mind. Subbed! 🍻
Awesome! Thank you for watching and subbing!

Great tips!
Probably a dumb question here, but what are static caravan parks and why would they have lumber worth collecting / dismantling?
Thanks great idea!! JD😎
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing. Great idea 🙂

Used wooden play sets makes a ton of sense. I want to think in that same way that makes full use of things at all stages of their life cycle.
Yep, lots of stuff around.
😮 DAMN I didn't expect that six pack ❤
I've done this before, and old decks as well.
Nice!
lol I already figured out what you are going to say and I have been wondering why people haven’t put this out there
Great video ! What kind of belt is the one you are wearing ? Looks solid
They don’t make them anymore, unfortunately!
Great idea😊
Glad you liked it!
Good idea.
Thanks!
Good one thanks.
You bet!
I have taken down wooden handicap wheel chair ramps for the lumber
Good tip.
You should probably leave those as the people in wheelchairs can't use stairs. 😂😂😂
Nooice! 😎 STOC

Score!
I do the same with people replacing their decks.
Smart!

Yep, massive amounts of beautiful worm.

I have nothing to say really, but I appreciate your content, and wish to help with the yt-algorithms.
Thanks Marius!

Same.
Where to search those people, and what under what name should I search, please?
Mr and Mrs Wooden play set!
@@WineberryHill what is this?! I mean what platform should I search in, and under what search topic should I look for the big lumber ?
Search for wooden play sets in online marketplaces like facebook, craiglist, offerup...etc
@@WineberryHill aha!! Now got it 😀thanks 👍🏻
or put an inverter in your truck
...a really good one maybe!
Or bring your generator.
It doesn't work like that in South Africa.
What do you find around you?
This only applies to certain areas.
