These guys came out around the same time as the so called "Big Four" and in my personal opinion blew all of them away hands down. They just never wrote albums with the intention of gaining mainstream acceptance. They were a hybrid monster of thrash/ death/ classical... a genre unto themselves.
It's amazing, there is little record of recordings with the formation of Symbolic, even more playing classics from Individual Thought Paterns and Human, thanks for sharing
No disrespect, but i hear some timing changes in this recording. Hey I couldn't do this at all, I am not saying that. Sean Reinert is one of Hoglan's idols.... Just saying ;) I love all the records from Human onwards. The ones before that time were exceptional for their time, but it has been replicated 1000 times until this day, whereas the later albums all still stand on a peak unreached in my opinion. Long story short: Hoglan, Reinert, Christy.... All fantastic drummers!
Some of this could be the sound engineer's fault but they butchered this song. Even Gene's making mistakes in this performance. The bass player is out of sync at points, Chuck's voice sounds off(which may be forgiven if this was late into a tour), Gene misses so many beats, and uses more simple fills than in the studio version, but this can also be forgiven if this is a later tour date. Just disappointing overall.

Hogan was their tightest drummer no doubt, but Richard Christy’s drum sound blows away hogans individual thought pattern drum sound any day.

Gene said this song was the most challenging to play in death, because the double bass parts were very fast for it’s time.
