  • In todays episode, I perform a standard service on my E66 740Li. Tasks include oil and oil filter change, air filter and cabin filter change, coolant and washer fluid top up, oil separator diaphragm replacement and service indicator reset.
    The new oil filter housing was supposedly a direct replacement for the original from the same OEM supplier, however the opening thread on the cap was much larger than the original and would not screw into place, making it redundant and useless.

    M539 Restorations would have done more manly noises I think, especially when you splashed oil on the *underside* of the car 😎

    What lift is it that you are using?

    Interesting why BMW decided to move the filter to the underside of the car and not have an auxiliary filter as on the v8 e38s ? It’s super easy change and fill it from up top! cost cutting I guess ?

    Can you get that "Remote battery run down!" error off by replacing the fobs battery? I have the same error and tried a couple of batteries but after a few days it comes up again even though the keyless entry keeps working without problems for about year or so.

      You hit on a topic I no longer wish to discuss! Spent 8 years trying to figure it out, replaced every component under the sun including the fobs, diversity antenna, rear window, etc etc etc never got to the bottom of it, I gave up a long time ago!

    What was that round seal with the spring which you replaced on both the sides?

    • @voodoomelons
      @voodoomelons Год назад

      They are the oil separator valves or crankcase breathers. They usually only last 5 or 6 years.

    How do you like it? I've owned and maintained E32, E34 and E39 and tried an E60 only to end up swearing off anything after 03. What is your impression so far?

    • @stevesbmwbarn5706
      @stevesbmwbarn5706  2 года назад +11

      Just a fabulous car all round. I've done 120k miles now in 8 years, beyond the stem seals and the central coolant pipe leak, no major bills outside of regular maintenance. I had the Logic 7 amplifier rebuilt, coolant system refreshed, wheels redone a few times, hydraulic ram for the boot replaced, PDC module rebuilt, few parking sensors, all little jobs and easy on the pocket. Had an E38 for 6 years prior and they are worlds apart, the E65 was well ahead of its time.

      @@stevesbmwbarn5706 Hy! I have for a lot of years an E38 740iL from 96.....due to the new stupid pollution regulations I plan to buy something newer ( but not sell the E38 ) do you recommend the E66 ? or what about the F02 ...4,4 biturbo? I usually do a lot of repairs on my own .....
