Billy is touring America with Stevie Nicks next year, she's his new Elton John I guess, I wonder how they will interact? He had to cancel MSG for health reason, hope he is ok.
Was brilliant! A long drive with my pregnant wife, 20 hrs driving, but worth it such a great experience. A real professional. I hope when I am his age I can show such enthusiasm and skill😊
Got to be lucky to get tickets to the show with my wife. Especially wanted to make sure she got to see her favourite artist and we did. Seeing her smile and hear her favourite song of Billy’s being played was just magical. Kills me that we’re separated now. Such a wonderful show, the atmosphere and seeing a living legend doing what he does best.
I was sitting in my car at work in 1973 and heard ‘if I only had the words’ from the just released Piano Man on the John Laws radio show. I rushed out and bought the vinyl album and took it to every party and told my mates this guy is going to be a super star and my mates laughed at me - no one had heard of him except me and John Laws. The rest was history. I did the same thing with ELO but that’s another story.
I was there! I'm five rows from the stage, it was my wish to see him live that I thought I have to go to New York but he came to Melbourne. It was a magical night!
@@ToeRingAdventures It was worth all of it for the amazing night! I love Billy Joel's music as it was the music of my teenage years and helped me through so many events in my life. He was my first crush, 1983-95 Billy by the way I'm not into old men, so to see the man who I looked up to really made me happy.
Living in New Zealand I went and saw him in Auckland on the 3rd. Extraordinary experience, and absolutely worth the expensive ticket. As a professional pianist, despite being a classical pianist Billy Joel was always one of my idols growing up. Have loved his music ever since the first listen. She’s Always a Woman and Vienna were my highlights but he made Piano Man sound so fresh it was amazing. My dad often made me play piano man and the song had begun to feel dull to me but his performance rekindled the joy I had when I first heard it. Extraordinary showman and memories I will forever remember as I continue my journey as a musician!
Yes, I still remember the first time I heard piano man on the radio. I was working alone in the darkroom and into the weird red/yellow light comes this song and this story and this voice. Awesome memory.🎶🎵
I was there, the concert was incredible. One of the best I've ever seen! Billy rocked it! And the girl that did River Deep Mountain High was brilliant.
@@Mia-vm6plWell, it seems as though you may not, when it comes to concerts. Billy Joel is definitely past his best, when performing Live. I remember from listening to concerts of his from 20 yrs ago from videos (and friends showing me from recordings of the concerts) from the Live concerts early this millenium & century - I noticed that. I still think from the 1998 concert that he paired with Elton John, he didn't sound as good as the 'River of Dreams' tour - of which he mainly performed tracks from that album being Blues & soul, as well as some minor tracks from his hits. I had seen him perform Live during the 2nd-half of the 1980s, and the 'Storm Front' Tour. He really started to wane in the late 1990s, even tho the ones who went to see the 1998 tour, mentioned to me that Billy Joel sounded better than Elton John. And I even had to agree with that. But it was somewhat of a disappointment of a performance. MJ was a better performance and singing wise, a cpl of yrs earlier at the SCG. I still thought that both Bowie (Reality tour), and the Prince tour of 2013, was a way better performance than what Billy Joel had brought out since 1998.
Anyone would say any of the musicians they like, is one of the best concerts they've ever been to. Billy Joel started to wane around the 2nd-half of the 1990s. And the last I saw Billy Joel was when he performed with Elton John in 1998. He wasn't as good as the 1980s when I went to see him perform or the previous tour of the 1998 one, 'River of Dreams'. I only went to that because it was pretty much his last recording album, and like soul music myself. Just like Simply Red.
Thanks for posting this. It was an amazing show, everybody sang from start to finish. He didn't have to ask the crowd to sing along. Weather was perfect too. Loved it.
He doesn't either at any of his concerts. People just do it, because he has been one of the best recording musicians ever. Btw, regarding another musician whom I saw back in the late 1980s as a teen, Dragon... were absolutely shit during the 2nd half of the 1980s, and love their songs. People sing at those as well.
Remember, the weather there is opposite of the States. December is late spring, early summer there. And I am SO grateful for the human who posted this. Takes me back decades
I was at that show! He's still got it. The good news "I haven't released any new music in 30 years. The bad news I haven't released any new music in 30 years so you're going to hear the same old stuff you've heard before." GREAT - that's why we bought a ticket and went to the show to hear all the great old songs and he delivered in spades. Imagine 30 years ago at 43 saying I've got nothing more to say and no more songs to write. I'll play at Madison Square Garden till no one shows up and they're still showing up 30 years after the last album came out.
I saw him last year in Orlando. Still amazing yes after all these years sounds the same unlike even Paul McCartney whose voice has aged. He has a lot of energy and so does his show. Still one of my Favorite entertainers. He is so talented and funny and entertaining. Great performance! God bless you Billy
I am only a casual Billy Joel fan, it was my first time seeing him live last Saturday night and I wished he had sung "Honesty" For me that would been the cherry on top!
I remember seeing him in the late 70’s. He was vibrant, thin, and moved all around the stage. While he has mellowed out since then, his voice and music will last forever. See him while you can. He is a New York and American treasure.
It was an absolutely fantastic night, what an incredible performer, one of the favourite concerts of my life. Billy even played my favourite song of his which surprised me, Downeaster Alexa.
Its hard to believe that it has been 50 years since I first heard Billy on radio station WMMR in Philadelphia back in 1972 . Ed Sciaky was the host DJ .
I have seen Billy twice in the last four years at MSG in NYC. I was so lucky to grab a front row ticket for one of the shows. The best thing about Billy is that even in his 70's his voice sounds great and unlike other older performers like Elton John Billy doesn't have to change the style or tempo to fit an aging voice.
Billy is touring America with Stevie Nicks next year, she's his new Elton John I guess, I wonder how they will interact? He had to cancel MSG for health reason, hope he is ok.
Never expected anything less from such a legend! Must admit that I was floored by his youthful voice belying his years and his charisma and comedic presence. He owned it! Luckily I saw him in Auckland just recently and prior to was debating whether I should go. Thank God I did.
Ever since its release in the '80s, when I've seen or heard Billy projecting ('singing' does not describe it well enough) 'A Matter of Trust' towards my ears, I always think that very few songs are as emotionally satisfying. This amongst so many brilliant performances.
It was an amazing night I went to the pub afterwards and had a chat with a bunch of awesome people who were also there and our shared love for Billy Joel brought us all together
Thank you for sharing. Was such a special night. My OH wouldn’t tape anything he’s too In the moment.. & my phone had a mental breakdown. So thank you for posting. I’d give anything for another gig here.
Thank you so much for sharing this video. He’s been my musical hero since I was a kid. I flew from Sydney to see this show. He did a solid 2½ hours and I loved every minute of it. I figured that I’ll probably never see him perform again in Australia, so I savoured every moment. Long live the Piano Man. 🎼🎹🎤
Thank you SO MUCH for posting this - I travelled from interstate to see this show and it was worth every cent! I did take a few videos of my own, but yours helped me to re-live the show. Fantastic! A night of classic live music and amazing atmosphere I will never forget :-)
We were further up the grandstand so we had a limited view of the stage, however the atmosphere of the crowd as well as the showmanship of both Billy Joel and Tina Arena made for a totally electric night.
The atmosphere at this show was electric, so glad I went. I was in block B1 so got sort of a side view of stage but was still reasonably close. I'm surprised my voice isn't completely shot after last night.
Hey whoever put this video montage together, awesome job 👍🏻 I can remember going to see Phil Collins solo in 1990 and with Genesis in 2007 both were amazing shows.

Billy Joel, the one and only. A crazy amount of crazy good songs and still doing them a lot of justice on stage. A living legend!
