      Or maybe because the death star 2 was even bigger, and because it's laser could recharge even more quickly, the shafts had to be bigger to accommodate/allow the death stars 2 to better thermally ventilate. An unstable core probably needs a lot of cooling.
      And besides, the shield meant that it was protected anyways.

    Not to mention that the Empire got rid of the imperial senate just prior to the first death star's destruction. This definitely would have affected both the power vacuum after it happened and also general opinion of the empire.

    • @SalinaMoonfall
      @SalinaMoonfall 2 года назад

      Tarkin and Wolfe were probably the two biggest hits to the empire, arguably more of a loss than the death star itself. Tarkin was the mastermind behind imperial policy and was a central figure in the imperial machine that EVERYONE feared, which kept them reasonably in line. Wolfe in a similar vein was an anti-corruption crusader in his leading of the ISB, with him gone I have little doubt the empire grew rifer with corrupt and incompetent imperial officers who began to act out more now that a paragon of oversight had been eliminated.

      @sammy094sbiggestfan2 8 лет назад +3

      No mass genocides, if you're referring to the strategy to hunt down Jedi by grouping up cities, the Galactic Empire did this but didn't kill, generally search them, or get Dark Side Adepts to sense near by Jedi. Corusant was much too important, and Jedi there would turn them selves in hoping their allies would join in to kill Storm Troopers; they ran in few followed. But the Galactic Empire still killed people in these areas.

      Star Wars Explained It was my understanding from Rogue One that the flaw wasn't so much the exhaust port, but the reactor design itself. It was designed so that even if a grenade was detonated anywhere in the system, an uncontrollable chain reaction would occur that would destroy the station. The exhaust port merely gave the Rebels access to the reactor system. Had Galen Erso not designed the system to catastrophically blow, the exhaust port probably wouldn't have been an issue, there would have been some durability and redundancy to the reactor system to prevent a catastrophic chain reaction. The exhaust port or at least what happened when an explosive was shot down it was a feature, not a bug. Having the second Death Star designed by someone who didn't hate the Empire was probably the biggest boon to that project compared to its predecessor.

    @mitchellhayward6492 8 лет назад +1

    Well regarding the second Death Star, I don't think they just left a tunnel intentionally for any ship to fly into. For me, the Rebels were flying to the reactor by cutting through the guts of the Death Star. After all, nearly half of the station's skeleton and framework, pipes, and such were all exposed and taken advantage of.

    I never took the second Death Star's rate of fire to mean it was improved. you're not going to fire a full planet killing blast to destroy a single ship, so they were likely firing it at a much lower power which allowed it to fire more than once.

  • @twstf8905
    @twstf8905 5 лет назад +9

    They didn't, "leave a tunnel big enough for a light frieghter to fly into," lol as much as they happened to have vast portions of the station exposed to the vacuum of space, should the shield generator ever be deactivated by a, "pitiful band of Rebels." 👍

    Death Star Part II is just as stupid as Dead Star Part I, but for different reasons.
    The "Auxiliary" Thermal Exhaust Port on the first Death Star was shielded, but not from photon torpedoes: that's fault number 1. Fault number 2 is that the Station even needed two exhaust ports, but its understandable. It's also understandable that the auxiliary did not have a retractable door on it, because if the primary exhaust port were to fail, then the back up one would need to kick-in immediately. And because the auxiliary exhaust port was not expelling anything, then anything shooting into it would have been able to go right down in without any resistance. Although, why the torpedoes seemingly curved down into the shaft and followed the path straight to the core is what confuses me the most.
    Death Star II, however, is stupid because even though they fixed the exhaust port issue, they managed to create a safety net that was mediocre at best, with the use of a moon-based Shield Generator. The Generator was greatly under-guarded, even with as many troopers and the few AT-STs that they had on-site, because they underestimated the local inhabitants. Which, if you're a strategist, should have crossed their minds just a little bit. They also did not put at least a few Star Destroyers in place over the shield generator, to launch a few TIEs, or probe droids, or something else that would have caused some serious havoc for our heroes. But the worst offense is not that they underestimated the Ewoks or the forest terrain, it's that they didn't build a backup generator, or even 2 or 3, in case the primary generator went offline. It's also a bit strange that they didn't design a shielding system that worked in portions or in power ratings, where using four shields simultaneously made it so much impenetrable, and then if one of them gets knocked out, it cuts down the strength, but still has a shield rating high enough to withstand almost any attack.
    I mean, with the battle station being the Empire's primary weapon of choice, and having the highest ranking officers and best ships and garrisons at their disposal at the Battle of Endor, why wouldn't Palpetine have ordered the construction of more than one Shield Generator to ensure that the rebels would have far less of a chance to knock it all out? If they learned anything from the first Death Star, it's that they shouldn't underestimate the Rebellion pilots or their technology, in addition to the fact that they effed up their own technical designs on the battle station.

    I feel the big holes in Death Star II was just another way to entice the Rebellion into attacking.

    Am I just an idiot or is he pronouncing executor wrong? He says exec as in executive. While I think it should sound like execute.

    Why was the concept of the Death Star so important to the Emperor? Why not just improve and expand the Navy?

    • @skrutrekker80
      @skrutrekker80 8 лет назад +3

      The Death Star was to serve as an ultimate deterrent. A weapon so powerful no star system would dare rebel because it would mean the destruction of their very planets. Capital ships did not have that sort of firepower, and as we see the Rebels were able to effectively combat them.

    Did the Empire knew exactly how the first Death Star was destroyed though? Who told that the rebels exploited the thermal exhaust port to shoot down torpedo's to the main reactor? Everyone died seconds after. Was it Darth Vader? He's what appears to be the only survivor. Although he wasn't close enough to see the exact attack, I guess it's obvious what the rebels tried to do when they flew in the trench.

      Onypop my guess is the Empire likely had their version of the real life Army Corps of Engineers take a copy of the Death Star plans, studied them and eventually found the flaw in the design that caused the destruction.
      Afterward all, if a rag-tag bunch of Rebels could find it, trained troubleshooters with unlimited resources surely can too, just a matter of time.
