  • For over a century foreign heels have been a regular part of professional wrestling, but it's a trope that reflects many societal issues and Jinder Mahal's title reign was a major sign of its waning popularity. Let's take a look at his run with the belt and the trope that surrounded it.

WWE making Jinder champion was like a real life Siivagunner shitpost takeover

People will watch this and still view exploitation as simply an individual, moral failure, instead of the reality that it is also systemic. I'm about halfway through, but hot diggity this is some great stuff. Found your channel because of the Kengan vid.

Idk why your channel never blew up but I hope you're doing well and wanted to thank you for the great videos. Great editing and research. Hopefully you can get back to uploading again sometime.

Wow. I wish this had some better visibility. I don't even watch wrestling and this was a great video for my lunch break. Keep up the great work, it's clear you have passion for it.

I still can't believe that Mahal was world champion, damn even Rusev or Cesaro would have been more interesting with a heel manager.

The music cue of when Brock came onto screen was SO good, loud and overpowering. It's everything his run was and is, I love it.

the foreign heel gimmick still going with Gunther but Jinder was the last big anti America heel. Jinder was a better champion than Big E and Kofi

the comparison to Eddie is kinda odd. you say people rooted for Eddie because he overcame an addiction. So did Jinder with alcohol addiction and he transformed his physique. not saying he's on Eddie's level but there were definitely people still in support of Jinder and want to see him succeed

    • @chernobylhobo7793

Good on Jinder for overcoming his addiction, but that doesn't change the fact that the story didn't frame him that way in the same way it did Eddie. They made Jinder into the same generic foreign heel we've seen a million times. If they really wanted to tell that story Jinder needed to be an underdog babyface. That's a big reason why Eddie's win worked and Jinder's win didn't.

@@chernobylhobo7793 i think he does have untapped potential as a sympathetic underdog and could get the fans on his side but he's been a heel his entire career. could happen one day
