    I think they could have designed the solo mode so that whenever there are 3 or more workers in location the AI’s orders are overruled and instead they imprison those workers. That mirrors the logic of most humans playing the game. “I was going to do something else but how can I ignore the gift you just gave me.”

    hmm perhaps other work placement games ie Agricola when you dont compete against AI but you are just scoring points and building your happy place is a way to go. or if you prefer a lighter game Viticulture is another good option. i wonder what your thoughts are. thanks

    Hmm surprised I didn't see this till now. At any rate. Architects solo mode is as you said not bad but could have been better. I use it when I play with my wife. It gives you just enough tension on how many workers you should invest into a specific spot. You don't know when the AI will claim your workers. As I've mentioned it gives the 2 player a little more tension and the guild hall can fill up pretty fast.
    I would love to see a revamp of the AI. Again not to say it's a bad design it's just too easy a solo game but better using in a 2+ game.

    If the guardhouse card comes up and the AI doesn’t have a debt card do they just gain a virtue and send three coins to tax?

    Hi Nick! I just started playing this game (solo) and I love it! Two things from your video… I think the AI moves up a virtue on the brown deck Guildhall cards but you didn’t mention that.
    I didn’t understand the EOG Virtue track scoring at first and was taking the purple number and +\- the yellow number. Asked on BGG to clarify and Shem said scoring for the virtue track is only any yellow number- which probably skewed some of the overall outcomes of previously played games. How are you scoring the virtue track? Could that have affected your inability to lose?
    I pretty much only ever play solo games, so I’m used to feeling like a lot of gameplay is mechanical and don’t mind this AI at all. I have heard that Shem is releasing an expansion Works of Wonder (I think?) that is supposed to include an all new AI.
    New to your channel- you seem fun! Have subscribed. 👍

    I don't have a problem with the A.I. I like that it is quick, challenging, and sensible. Adding a thematic element to the A.I. would become too arduous and long.

    Totally agree - solo is a great variant; I use it to test different strategies but I agree the lack of interactivity and the push your luck element (can I get another worker in there before they are captured?) Of the multiplayer game is missing. Got to admit, I didn't have your skill going 0-3 the first time I played solo however because it's beautiful balanced IMHO you always lose by a hair (I've tied a few games only to lose by virtue) It's still a great mode but totally agree with you, it's a game best played with people.

    I'm 3-2 now against Helena (hard mode) and I really enjoy it. I've tried to play very different strategies each time.
    I really like how the solo mode still feels like I'm playing an opponent with the same turn options as me for the most part. Scythe for example is my favorite multiplayer game but the experience just doesn't translate in the very different automa rules.

    I am really looking forward to getting Architects next month. I plan on solo'ing it but that is just a bonus mode since I really want it for multiplayer. This review falls in line with my expectations.
    I also thought that Raiders of the North Sea was a good but not great solo game. If you love the game then someone should get the solo mode for it but I wouldn't recommend someone buying Raiders and the solo mode just for solo play. Multiplayer is WAY better.

    Just played solo tonight. I agree with the capture mechanism it just takes your guys regardless of where. A couple times it took one guy cause that's all that were out at that moment. Still a good solo game though the score was close I like that it's tough but not impossible. I've only played the easy mode.

    Thank You, so much. I had just tried the solo game and was so confused with a lot of the cards and what they meant. I had never played the game so it was a bit confusing to start with and the wording and symbols on those cards.

    Your thoughts on the solo game seems to be like a person who reads an awesome book and then go see the movie based off the book you read. It's never as good.

    You're a better player than me 'cuzI have a hard time against Helena. But with so much of the fun of this game in everyone reacting to the town centre action, I do agree that playing solo falls a bit flat. A decent solo, but as a solo player I say there are better games. I'll probably just use it as a tune up, especially if I know that I will be doing a teach.

    Do you think it is a good 2-player game? Cause I'm not sure if I should purchase that one or Raiders of the northsea... what would you suggest?

    • @alecgalbraith5604
      @alecgalbraith5604 5 лет назад +1

      AriFriends I’m not the Brothers Murph, but I did just play a 2-player game today. I don’t think you lose anything in a 2 player game. We both thought it was excellent. The only thing that would happen in higher player counts that can’t happen in 2p games is that your workers could be captured by multiple people, so the amount of available workers you have probably fluctuates a lot more.
      I actually think Raiders loses more in a 2p game since the game will always end with the fortresses being raided, whereas with higher player counts, all the Valkyrie being taken or all the market tiles being bought are legitimate end game triggers.
      That said, I love BOTH the games 2 player, so if deciding between the 2 games, I would go for the game with the worker placement mechanic you think sounds more interesting. Do you want to place a worker in 1 spot and then pick up a worker in another, occupied spot? Get raiders. Do you want to get rewarded for repetitively going to the same spot over and over again, getting better stuff each time? Get Architects.

    • @TheBrothersMurph
      @TheBrothersMurph  5 лет назад +1

      I personally like Architects more. It feels ore different from play to play than Raiders does. They both are great, and both play great at 2 though, so you can't really go wrong! But my personal liking leans slightly towards Architects

    I'm in complete agreement. The solitaire game is somehow not particularly interesting. It also seems very easy to win, even against Helena.
