My new boss is switching us from press back to solder. Says it “is no different than sharkbite and takes the skill out of the trade.” Mind you we are a service plumbing company. Isn’t time money ? Is easier to use, easier on my body and takes away any fire risk. If I’m swapping a water heater I’m not going to sit there and sweat everything, to me it’s a waste and in my area that water heater will be replaced long before those press fittings go bad. I’m tired of that old school mentality. Yes every plumber needs to know how to solder but the industry just moving in the direction of technology and I’m all for it. I’m a worker and I’m trying to make as much money as possible with as little wear and tear on my body as possible. For service and repair, im propressing. It’s a no brainer.

Technology has made Plumbing very easy and it seems almost anybody who never put in the time and effort to be a real plumber can put this together, but it takes more than that and knowing how to fit and measure pipe and be able to afford a Pro Press which runs 2 grand or more. My friend who is still in the trade bought one and he loves it. I got out of the trade and retired as they were coming out. But If I were still in it, I would have one.
