  • 🔍 What is a Loose Body in the Knee? 🦵
A loose body in the knee refers to a small fragment of bone or cartilage (or both) that has broken off and is floating within the joint space. These fragments can cause pain, swelling, and a feeling of the knee “locking” or “catching” during movement.
    Causes:
    1. Injury: Trauma or repetitive stress can break off pieces of bone or cartilage.
    2. Osteoarthritis: Wear and tear over time can lead to the formation of loose bodies.
    3. Osteochondritis Dissecans: A condition where a piece of bone and cartilage separates from the end of the bone due to a lack of blood flow.
    Symptoms:
    • Pain and swelling in the knee
    • Locking or catching sensation
    • Reduced range of motion
    • Instability or giving way
    Treatment Options:
    • Non-surgical: Physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medications, and corticosteroid injections-for true loose bodies that are causing locking or mechanical symptoms, these non-operative methods are ineffective.
    • Surgical: Arthroscopy to remove loose bodies and repair any damage within the joint.
If you’re experiencing these symptoms, consult with a healthcare professional to get a proper diagnosis and treatment plan.
🩺 Remember: Early intervention can prevent further joint damage and help maintain your active lifestyle.

Dr P. Just curious. They say cartilage can't grow. But you said the loose boidies can grow from the fluid in the knee.
Why can't someone with an arthritis in the knee can't regrow cartilage in their own joint fluid?

Actually the fluid maintain the cartilage if you know what im saying meanwhile the fluid feeds that pieces and it can make it tough
