So 10:29. Some advice. Your creeping barrage fucked you. They would not have made it to your trenches if you hadn't used it. Creeping barrages leave dust and smoke in their wake which provides cover for infantry, which helped the Germans take less damage, which allowed them to close and get at your trenches. Creeping barrages are a purely offensive tool. If you want to use light artillery defensively, use the normal barrage.
I fucking love the depth of this game. So hyped for it to come out at the end of the month.

I don’t know why but itching it’s cool that when a division/unit of soldiers gets damadged the soldiers don’t fall over one by one. The unit has its health and when that health reaches 0 all the aoldiers fall over at the same time.

I would've thought in a WW1 rts you just build one machine gun and then you win.
Edit: More accurately, both sides build one machine gun and get stuck in an infinite stalemate.

looks fun but wow those machine-guns are very powerful. there weren't a lot of those big wave charges you see in movies, especially not in 1917-1918. obviously you can't model every platoon advancing by sections and every little lewis gun laying down suppressing fire, but reaching and taking the trench itself shouldn't be the stumbling block. generally, the problem was the counter-attacks. reinforcements and supplies crossing no man's land would be decimated by artillery, while the defender could move up safely.
by 1917 both armies had mastered the trench attack. and so the German brigades tasked with holding the frontlines would be annihilated by shelling, tanks and grenades. then the allies would become spread out, lose their artillery support, and be smashed by fresh enemy troops, and so on and so on.
that's the real horror of WW1, IMO. every attack, for years on end, the boots on the ground could smell the breakthrough. they'd take layer after layer of trenches, the germans would be on the run. and then it'd all get bogged down in the mud and the Eingreif divisions would drag them kicking and screaming back to the start line.

Been wanting a WW1 RTS for so long! I really liked World War 1 by Dark Fox, but the combat is so unbalanced, you can't get new troops and they die instantly from MG fire. That's WW1 for ya, but gamplay needs to be fun too.. This looks really fun, been waiting for your feedback on the game before i decided to buy it XD
A Men of War game set in WW1 would be even greater though.

question about the multiplayer, will you be able to play a full 1v1 campaign involving in commanding in theater as well as in the field. im hoping for something similar to total war hammer 3 style of being able to save and come back with a friend but in a way you can play the entire game against each other. i really like the idea of the change of season and the progression through the years it would be nice if this is something that also can occur in multiplayer.

fun fact, flamethrowers aren't banned. they're not longer useful but the geneva convention explicitly allowed them to remain despite calls for them to be banned due to being horrific by the central powers
this despite their primary means of killing people being asphyxiation which is banned, incendiary weapons in general are a weird area that is partially banned (no to civilians, go ham and burn your enemy alive though)
flamethrowers esp in a man portable package are of extremely limited military value in most types of war though, and the operator is highly visible and tends to die at a much greater rate
as it painted a massive target on your back
they had a 92% casualty rate, it is cool to use them but the odds of you not laying dead either directly after or before you use your fuel is extremely low
