You have just discovered one of the more talented artists of her era. The hits from her go on and on. And her stuff holds up over time incredibly well. Another great reaction.
Not sure. If nobody knows this video or song they are probably of a different generation and maybe you’re right, but for my generation born after 1982 to 1990 they know this
I hate to disagree but I never appreciated Jewel until watching live YT concerts, this one in particular. My lovely lady of... 26 years... had her first couple albums, I couldn't stand it and Jewel herself says "I sounded like Kermit the Frog... no, no, you can laugh" when she talked about her first album during her Stageside Live show. There are a few groups/singers that I personally think need no mastering or production (I know there are sound techs at concerts), she's in that league for me.
Love her ! I would check out her song, You Were Meant for Me. You should probably listen to the original of this song,, Who Will Save Your Soul. Then you'll appreciate the live version. She's a gem.
Jewel had talent. Kinda like this crooner era torch singer style here. Paid her dues for real. Lived in a van before she was discovered, definitely gets respect.
She has such an amazing voice. When she first started getting popular I saw her open for Neil Young. of course I was there to see him and he put on a great show but she was amazing and really impressed with me her performance.
One of the voices she uses she calls her "Kermit the Frog" voice. I'd check the original studio version, too, just to see what you think. Thanks for another good one!
A lesser known singing gem from Jewel is “Long Way ‘Round” … but the essentials are “Foolish Games” & “You were meant for Me” from the Pieces Of You album! Thanks for sharing!
I believe this version shows her fully capable of carrying a message and commanding the attention of the audience. When I heard the studio version I was somewhat unimpressed, to me it sounded like a whiney teenager. This on the other hand pushes that notion to the past and shows her as a comfortable, confident and passionate woman.
Jewel is immensely talented. Here's a suggestion for when you put your Christmas reactions together. Jewel doing 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas' backed by Home Free on The Sing-Off. Really good!
@POLO You have to go listen to the studio/radio version of this song. This performance was Jewel vibing and doing whatever tf she wanted to. This and the studio version are like listening to two different songs. Lol
Definitely should have reacted to and should still react to the original studio version. It's a beautiful and powerful song and this is almost a mockery of it. I get that artists grow tired of singing the same songs the same way for years but they need to accept that sometimes they write a song that is so iconic and important that they have to just deal with the repetition and sing/play it as it was intended. The studio version will blow you away, trust me.
Jewel isn't that kind of performer though. This song originated out of improv. I'll say that this isn't my favorite of her live performances. But none of her live performances are the same. This performance is the furthest from the original though. I think it's because she's not in guitar herself.
@@simplyhuman3982 you may have to google that info. It was on the Discovery channel “Alaska” The Last Frontier. There only seems to be short segments on here ( RUclips).
Between the late '80s and early '90s, is there any wonder why those of us that grew up in that time period, especially preteen too early teens, had the mindset that we ended up with? And why we are so understanding yet at the same time so effed up
you should really look up her backstory. it's truly awe inspiring to be honest. knowing what she went through to become what she is makes the goosebumps that much more powerful when you hear her do what she does.
This was an interesting version, but the studio is much better. (I do miss the 90's atmosphere - we didn't realise how good we had it back then, concerts like this were commonplace events, and the vibe was a lot more positive than today).
Love jewel, but this performance is hard to judge her talent. She does a good live performance as the mask winner recently, check out the video. She was queen of hearts.
i already clicked like and i just subbed after watching a handful of reactions already. haven't even started the video. this performance by jewel is... well, i'm looking forward to the reaction. lets just say that.
Dave here. Do it. Check out You Were Meant for Me by Jewel. My favorite of her songs. Totally unique performer. Enjoying your reaction journey. Do yourself a favor - try ella fitgerald, Cry Me A river is my favorite, but anything she does is awesome.
My first time on the channel. At first I was disappointed that it was this live version. It's so different from what I am accustomed to on my CD. But this turned out to be a special performance. Thank you for that! But yeah. The "cat goes meow meow" part was mercifully quick to end. She should fix that.🐈 You and your audience will love the "Funny or Die" episode with Jewel. They give her a big nose, and a group of "friends from the office", and she sings a Jewel song at Kareoke, looking nothing like herself. Its *great*.
Or just check it out one day when you are bored. The song is Who Will Save Your Soul, so you may not want the same song on your channel again. And it's interviews with the people in the Kareoke bar, so yeah. Maybe not for a reaction video..
Oh dang... THE WOODSTOCK VERSION!!! I'm geeked to see you get geeked over the "call and response" part with the guitarist! She's... not great... on her albums, but live 🔥🔥❤🔥❤🔥🔥🔥 Booty wiggle in 3...2...1 here we go! 😆
Awesome reaction to Jewel! When I say she has done pretty much every genre of music and her voice has so many textures and range I mean it! She’s done opera to country to old school jazzy and blues rock and gospel. Check out more! Her live performance are superior to the studio.
Next? Anything from this concert is fire, I'm a metalhead (some Hip-Hop), but this is the only concert I actually ever ripped off YT. Another great show of hers is called "Stageside Live"... to really get a feel for Jewel, you have to watch a whole concert... she chats with the audience and tells stories. She's been on stage in backwoods bars in Alaska with her dad since she was, I think, 7 and she can YODEL (yodle, yodell?). I'd probably suggest the song that tells the story of her family coming to Alaska... I'll give ya timestamps if you're willing to listen to some background and a beautiful tribute to her ancestry. 3 minute simple, but eloquent, song with a 2 minute story in the beginning... pre-warning, it's just a girl and her guitar with no backing band and it's very "folksy" but explains a lot about WHO she is and how she sees the world. It's NOT her best song, but it's a great and humble tribute. I know a lot about her life just from watching her chat with the audience and tell her story... one great thing, when she was offered a deal she had 2 options, the first was a big-ass check and the label controlled her... the second, a MUCH smaller check along with royalties and full control of her music (I'll let ya guess which she took). My Father's Daughter ruclips.net/video/gncv3yEKVVc/видео.html to ruclips.net/video/gncv3yEKVVc/видео.html
You Were Meant For Me & Foolish Games are also great. You should check out Joss Stone & ZZ Ward if you like Blues. If you like Southern Rock try Dorothy or Halestorm. 💜
Video reaction Asia and BJ describe her voice as an instrument that was about ten months ago, today Saturday 21 January 2023. Very intense reactions you and they. Thank you for that. If you are familiar with Jimi Hendrix you listen to his recording studio songs and then listen to his live versions hey when you're a songwriter you can do anything with your poetry. Stir It Up mix it up, live. Well jewel is also singer-songwriter if you haven't listened to the studio recording, well you will recognize that Jewel here is pulling a Jimi Hendrix on her song. She is really stirring it up. Go ahead and Google up studio recording then compare the two. I swear you won't be disappointed, originally from around the mid-90s. Again thank you for this . I enjoyed it , you take care of yourself now by
I absolutely loved Jewel back in the 90s. Her other super smash hit from her first album is called You Were Meant for Me. Not one of her most known songs, but there's a cool video of her and her father singing the theme song they wrote for the show the Discovery Channel made about her family that lives on a homestead in Alaska. ruclips.net/video/rktZbb2Ia1I/видео.html
Thank you, never saw the show. I only know about it from her onstage stories, first I heard this though. Funny "how did these hillbillies get an agent in a day"! They didn't have to look too far to find a star to be a feature singer on the theme either... I wonder what she charged.
The first time I dyed my hair an "unnatural" color, I dyed it blue while I was visiting my aunt after her girlfriend broke up with her and my baby queer's self seeing melissa etheridge and jewel and dived myself into my split dye blue look and melissa etherege
I’ve seen Jewel live several times …this is “that” song that an artist gets known for but it is the producers/labels song and the artist just gets burned out on everyone wanting the studio version … I’ve seen it one time in her set list and that was early in her career … frankly there are so many better live versions of it … Jewel is an entertainer … an artist that always gives and gives … this was a festival that she was likely contracted to perform this song and she at least made it memorable!
Love your channel and reactions. You're so mellow as we used to say in my day. "Foolish Games" by Jewel is really nice also. I agree with some others here, you should check out the studio version of this. It gives perspective to the live one.
I would like to request that you react to a band called Bloodywood. It’s a metal band from India. Maybe the song Aaj or something. I don’t know if you take requests from comments here though. I also don’t know if you have already heard them.
Jewel is a Diamond in the rough, he, he, ha, 😃 seriously though, I would have several suggestions, if you wanted… she dated Sean Penn for a minute, fun fact. 🤓
BoHo I love your videos bro but I got to tell you I am so glad that on this particular one even though it was not crazy like Harry Mack that you at least did not waste time 10 times per video. Reactions are all about your facial expressions and your laughs but continue to let the game play and don’t hold up. I really enjoy your videos more than other reaction videos

Y you out out of your mind …. This is the best version. He barely interrupted
That's the moment when the fire started burning at Woodstock 99
90% improvised. She’s killin it!
I absolutely loved this improv, I have never seen this, too cool…..
I feel like the studio version would have been a better introduction before watching her go off in this improvisational freestyle version.
100%
Agreed. This is a great version of the song if you know the song. I've never seen this one before.
Not sure. If nobody knows this video or song they are probably of a different generation and maybe you’re right, but for my generation born after 1982 to 1990 they know this
Agreed. (Or maybe her self-indulgence[?] here just feels kind of annoying and ... "pffft.")
I hate to disagree but I never appreciated Jewel until watching live YT concerts, this one in particular. Her song "Hands" brings tears to my eyes every time. And the video that goes with it is powerful & beautifully done.
Hands is beautiful, Foolish Games, and a duet with Dolly Parton called, My Father's Daughter.
Love her ! I would check out her song, You Were Meant for Me. You should probably listen to the original of this song,, Who Will Save Your Soul. Then you'll appreciate the live version. She's a gem.
What a perfect way to get introduced to her check out angel standing by same concert

Nice reaction.
I never knew this performance existed....it's amazing.
Please give the studio version a listen.
Merry Christmas, Polo!

The interview she did with Rogan is worth listening to. She is an amazing person.
She comes from a humble town in Alaska. She's a Jewel for sure!
She has such an amazing voice. When she first started getting popular I saw her open for Neil Young. of course I was there to see him and he put on a great show but she was amazing and really impressed with me her performance.
Dude. You waited 9.5 minutes to pause. Yes. She is 🔥
Her range & breath control is incredible! My daughter's middle name is Jewel after her.
One of the voices she uses she calls her "Kermit the Frog" voice. I'd check the original studio version, too, just to see what you think. Thanks for another good one!
"Foolish Games" should be your next Jewel reaction.
A lesser known singing gem from Jewel is “Long Way ‘Round” … but the essentials are “Foolish Games” & “You were meant for Me” from the Pieces Of You album! Thanks for sharing!
god, I got chills just READING the name Foolish Games in your comment, lol. Such an amazing song.
As a child she was taught to yodel, next I would do foolish games the official video. It’s beautiful
I love the studio version, but I really like her bluesy improvisation here. Very cool
And jazz- the scat was amazing.
You need to listen to the studio version it’s soooki much different

That was... unexpectedly funky. Entertaining for it's own reasons, but you should give the album version a listen, as it's fundamentally different.
Foolish Games is my favorite Jewl song. I saw her live for my 21st she is amazing
I believe this was at Woodstock 1999 which was held at what used to be Griffiss Air Force Base (closed in 1995).
Between the late '80s and early '90s, is there any wonder why those of us that grew up in that time period, especially preteen too early teens, had the mindset that we ended up with? And why we are so understanding yet at the same time so effed up
Not to say I'm having a bad day, but Nostalgia is a beautiful thing. Yet a bitch at the same time
you should really look up her backstory. it's truly awe inspiring to be honest. knowing what she went through to become what she is makes the goosebumps that much more powerful when you hear her do what she does.
When you are done with Jewel, check out Dido, perhaps 'White Flag'... 😁 Then perhaps Merril Bainbridge 'Mouth'
Love ❤️ this version. Very different from the studio one. Play "Hands" & "Foolish Games" next.
She just won the 'Masked Singer' 2 ir 3 years ago...
Jewel Undercover is good where she goes to a Karaoke bar dressed up in costume
This was an interesting version, but the studio is much better.

She has a very unique voice. POLO, you're almost there man, 100k Subs. It's going to be a nice Christmas 🎄 ⛄ Present 🎁 🙂
🍻 to all this.

FIRST CLASS!

She's a sweetie
always amazes, to hear such an itty bitty thing belt out that round powerful voice

Her back story is interesting, moved from Alaska to LA with nothing but a guitar… sentiments on the studio version 🤪

very far off from the studio version- I agree it would been a better choice for a 1st listen ruclips.net/video/0wBDDAZkNtk/видео.html
This is the worse I've ever heard her. The studio version is amazing. She seems high AF in this one.
Weird version for a first reaction
Love your videos, but it’s so weird to me that you ask us to like the video before we’ve even seen it. But keep them coming.
Shes amazing but this performance doesn't do the song justice.
This isn't the best introductory rendition. Try the original. Not saying this version isn't good either.
When she sings, she always sounds like she’s drunk and she’s never intelligible.
The original is way better
