I'm Thomas and I do videos and reviews on mechanical keyboards ranging from the most sickening modern RGB gaming keyboards to vintage hardware relics, or sometimes keycaps or keyswitches ranging from Cherry MX to Alps SKCM to IBM buckling springs and anything in between.

The practice sentence was: "Hello my name is Thomas and I'm typing on a Lofree Edge right now. Unfortunately I really didn't enjoy my time with this keyboard, but it was still cool to take a look at!"
That font is a crime against humanity.
I might be weird but I like it.
The only thing that could possibly make this worse: A serif version of this font.
why do you need a font on keyboard?
That was the best "HHHHHHIIIIDEOUS" I think I've ever hear you do xD These videos are the best, thank you for your service sir, going through all this torture for us.
It also humored me. I've heard you do this a half dozen times now, but this one got the first laugh from me.
Good delivery, Chyrosran22.
Looks like a very reasonable $20 emergency backup travel keyboard
MSRP 250$ hah
3:00 "However, if you care about THICKNESS that much, you may have bigger problem in your life."

love the immediate C&C reference at the intro. KANE LIVES!
Peace through power!
@@Chyrosran22 I still don't know how they got James Earl Jones for that game. He's just a big ass nerd isn't he?
For the technology of Peace!
When you mentioned backlighting, I was like "...WHAT backlighting?!?!"
When you try so hard to be Apple that you beat them at "make my product unusable" game...
This looks like a keyboard you see in the £1 / $1 stores
I've got an Edge myself to have a portable keyboard that fits within my mobile setup.
Your review is fair but in my experience, the switches aren't that bad. I can confirm the unusual low travel distance and the high friction but as someone preferring tactile switches, this is eventually not that bad.
I completely agree with you on the backlight and the key caps. That's just a joke.
I think what bugs me most about those keycaps is that _every_ legend is top-centered... except, for some damn reason, that FN key. I mean, seriously... WTF?
Isn't the font used same as Porsche's company one? Or, is it "legally distinct"?
Yeah, I feel Porsche was one of the main design inspirations for this one, Apple being the other.
Swear words in a Chyrosran22 video? I don’t believe you.
He has never ever cussed in his entire life. Clickbait! Fake news!
I'm surprised you didn't bring up the fact that the function key's legends aren't aligned with the rest of the keys, but you probably couldn't see it due to trying to not make eye contact with the bad font.
Those screws on the top edge are a terrible design. They are not going to be holding that top veneer in for very long.
Eh, change the caps and it might be ok, the screws showing next to the carbon fibre is super ugly though.
and the carbon itself is ugly, full black be cool design
What the unholy hell!? Why is every single key top center aligned legends, EXCEPT for the FN key!? I can't even focus on anything else now.
If I had to guess on the key travel deal, I'm pretty sure that's about the same travel of your typical membrane keyboard.
Kailh+ Pom in the same sentence gives me Vietnam flashbacks
Lofree : hey we have a brand new keyboard, can you please review this one?
Chyrosran22 : WANING !
Chyrosran22 viewers: did he say popcorn?!?!?!
I think I have left this comment once before, but I'm doing it again! Honestly, I appreciate you covering these keyboards. About a year ago I needed to start carrying a bluetooth keyboard with me. It was tough to find anything decent that didn't cost a millionty-billionty dollary-doos. In the end I went with a Keychron, which I like a lot, but it uses standard sized switches and keycaps so in the end it's about the size of 3 of these lofree keyboards stacked on top of each other. I wish I had more trusted reviews of low-profile keyboards for better decision making.
it actually sounds pretty good. Literally everything else is terrible though...
I was eyeballing with this keyboard to replace my Ewent one I use for my phone (I sometimes write code documentation or even code at my job, since I'm horribly underpaid), but the price scared me away, it seems like for a good reason too.
2.4mm total travel seems reminiscent of the original Thinkpad classic keyboard.
Mmmm...mayonnaise
The new swear warning!!! This is why I appreciate this channel so much
The switch tops aren't real carbon
Those caps are minging…couldn’t they hit up KBDFans for some low profile WoBs? Really nice typeface with symbols on modifiers would look miles better.
i bet they are pumped about sending you this keyboard now lol great review though, love the honesty!
When you turned off the studio lights to show the backlighting, I had to pause the video, put on my glasses, turn my phone brightness up to the max, and squint, only to conclude to myself, "Yep, I still can't see anything."
I can't tell if the mayonnaise makes it better or worse. On the one hand, it could function as a lubricant. On the other hand, now you'll have a substance that rots easily smeared across your freshly lacerated colon.
It seems decent to me. I was weakly paying attention/background video-ing.
I like the look. I love the (75%?) TKL-ish form factor. The sound is acceptable.
The font is okay. I think I like this more than the CORSAIR/RAZER examples we think of.
I'm not fond of black caps in a world where we have so much black junk. I'd swap them for that reason, and not for font.
Honestly, I really like fonts like that, it reminds me of early 2000s DnB album covers. However, on a keycap, this is just utterly horrendous. I already have trouble reading the old Razer font, and this would give me 4 different aneurysms and at least one type of eye cancer
Recently tried low-profile switches at a meetup and they are definitely not my thing. They just feel.... wrong. The buckling springs I tried were great though, lovely tactility and nice weighting.
the font looks like it was crushed under a hydraulic press, much like the font designer's brain.
Indeed it's an "interesting" board (the inverted commas being made of expensive carbon fiber) but its design goals are muddled. Alas it's a rather academic curiosity that (to quote Indiana Jones) "belongs in a museum". As always though I'm glad you provide that keyboard museum in the form of your great reviews (including this one !) :-)
You didn't talk about how 'thocky' or 'creamy' the switches are. That seems to be what the online keyboard community cares about these days. 🤷♂
T H O C K
God i cant stand the mainstream keyboard community at all. The shit they like is terrible and all the same.
Good. If you care about how much a keyboard “thocks”, you have no taste.
Whoever decided that keyboard font should not be involved in any future Lofree design. Downgraded design from Lofree Flow. That's absolutely ugly.
I feel like you should've tried it with full-size caps. But thanks. I was wondering what their 250$ keyboard is like. Going to go with NuPhy
What the actual fuck is that font? If I used a font like that for a marketing piece (as that's my only professional qualification), I'd be immediately rejected because it's just wrong.
Your hands were more visible than the backlight
What's with the number row caps basically using the same numbers as that Razer board but very smol instead of the same wiiide tryhard cyber font that the other caps use?
That thing honestly looks like someone took a laptop keyboard & frankensteined a keyboard together for regular computer use. Eww.
Best RUclips videos about keyboards around.
I think carbon fibre is neat and all, but I actually hate touching it. It feels like it erodes the skin off my fingers. Could just be my imagination.
It looks like they found a concept drawing that was sitting in some product designer's drawer for the last 30 years.
Gotta say, shitty keyboards are far more entertaining than the trillion iterations of TKL keyboards, which to me are more or less the same.
On form today 😂
Warning, bad keyboard. First half of the video, nothing but praises.
I know these are legitimate reviews with the pros and cons, I just thought it was kinda funny to have it put this way.
Like I said at the end, it has pros and cons. But mainly cons in my opinion, so that seemed like the appropriate tone to end on.
My, that's *hideous* ; I don't get this Lofree crap.
This would be great in a laptop but fails as a standalone product
all i want is something like this but ortholinear 😭 (and better keycaps obv)
I can't focus on the review man, I love the jokes hahaha
1:44 light and strong eh? The Titan thing wants a word about both of those things.
The what now? xD
one tenth of a bucket of KFC? this thing won't fill me up, no good at all
It has a waning, always a great start.
The fact it's glued together pisses me off so much
Review the Nuphy Nos and compare them
MX mount you say? I think it needs thicc double shot SA keycaps. 12MM OF KEYCAP... 2.4mm of travel.
I like the lofree flow84 much more...
The stiffness of carbon fiber is seen in CF honeycomb structures. A flat sheet of epoxied CF isn’t going to be notably stiff.
Hey chyros what keyboard kit would you recommend to put clicky switches in, something with a roomy plastic case, because 90% of the kits out there have noise dampening and other mods meant to dampen linear and tactile switches. Ideally something under $100. I was heavily considering the 8bitdo keyboard but was wondering if there are other options.
8BitDo sounds like exactly the thing you need, brother!
@@Chyrosran22 Thanks a bunch man
the font is ugly af but i kinfa like it.
Uh, if you are a maker of low profile keyboards then just don't send them to Thomas maybe? I'm not sure what was the bigger mess up, the font or sending it in in the first place...
Good low profile boards exist! They just focus their attention on other things than portability IMO.
@@Chyrosran22 Yeah, the KeyChron K1 Pro TKL works well so far. Note that I have had non-registering keypresses on my old TKL with old Kailh choc clickbar blues though. Those switches seem to be extremely prone to dust (or something).
We're eating good tonight
At first glance I thought it was interesting looking, but those fonts! Good to see you Tom :D
lofree is all hype no game as usual
Nice sounding keyboard
The stand can also be used to hold your tablet or phone.
1:02 - Sold me the video
6:20 liked the cherry
I like the font.
Still better looking then keychron lol
Edge? Well, if you insist
