I really appreciate this. Finding the correct display board was the last piece I needed to complete my mod. Nice work!
a sequel to this video? now that we know the enormous limitations of hylox etc ????
I wouldn't mind how to on the use of the volume, marquee, and power switch. I really appreciate these videos. Thank you. Instead of selling my mvsx I have decided to go this route.
Awesome video - will you be able to upload the complete mod? Would be great to show the mod in detail, step by step. I just got the MVSX and would like to connect my Raspberry Pi - monitor and controller mod would be highly appreciated. ;)
I like these Bartop arcade form factors. People complained and nitpicked this but 50 games with all the metal slugs and collection of king of fighters. Tremendous value compared to what other competitors are doing in the same price point with 8 games max.
Number one reason I bought it...mods! I intend to have every neo geo game on this beotch. Great video
They seriously NEED to thank you...you know how many people are gonna buy this now... well i am for one now
I never understood people bitching and moaning about the button layout and other things. It's obvious the company knew people were going to mod the hell out of this thing so get to modding! 😁
Exactly
"But no muh nostalgia. Needs to be 4 buttons or it's not faithful therefore bad."
The legend lives on! Hylostick hack makes this superb!
You sneaky bugger!!! I knew you couldn't resist.🤣
Awesome video as allways.👍
😁👍 era proprio il video che stavo cercando, grazie Ralph.
So awesome
Looking at your side by side control panels... they definitely should have put a fake memory card reader (or real sd card slot?... another mod idea!) instead of the fake coin door.
Keep up the good work, Ralph!
Retro Ralph, breakin the law, breakin the law! You are hilarious just couldn’t wait could you?
2nd. Love it Ralph keep it up.
Thanks for this! Was the full mod video every completed?
So when do the first day buyers get their units? Release date seemed a little vague.
Curious if you made the 2nd video to this mod, Picked up a MVSX and soft modded with HyloX....unfortunately not all games run at full speed and the emulators don't seem to be optimized for the board that included with MVSX. Still lots of games mainly missing the midway collection. Would love to know which buttons fit with the stock holes and which board to make the controls USB compatible. Thanks for the great video, it helped with the decision to pick up the MVSX ......cheers!
I would get it just for Neo Turf Masters/Big tournament Golf mod. Best Golf game period.
The six button layout everyone bitched about is pretty damn useful for modding! LMFAO!
Hi Retro Ralph, Cool video. I just bought Arcade1up PAC-MAN 40th Anniversary countercade , How do you mod the video to hdmi like you did on MVSX cabinet. It Is a 40 pins 8” TFT display. I try the Adafruit PB video card and it didn’t work. So I am not able to keep the screen. Any idea. Can you do a video on Arcade1up Countercade mod. Doesn’t let like anyone did.
I would only want to add SVC Chaos and potentially swap sticks & buttons
Great game!!! That would be awesome!
So, any update? Staring at mine just waiting for your guide!
I would honestly wait it out. Looks like sometime in February we will be getting a hylo soft mod. It will make modding it pointless as it will support most emulator cores.
@@RetroRalph YES! OK, but can you do a short one on maybe just hardware/controls? Conflicting info out there on what buttons just fit, which ones need dremel, which sticks fit, etc.
So I guess there isn't going to be a Part 2?
After the Hylohack there's really no point so I decided not to do it.
@@RetroRalph After 10 months of waiting, that's pretty disappointing.
Hey Ralph, did you ever end up fully modding this unit?
When will you do part 2 ? Nees more complete videos on audio and stick mod..No MVSx Mod videos 😞
if i can get this modded to a True Neo Geo 4 button system i will pay someone to do it. I can't wait to see yours
Can you add an audio jack?
The only hiccup with replacing the pcb for me is what to do with those LED counters!
Good point, I'm not sure either, that could prove to be a complication. Would be cool to build some kind of software that makes them credit counters like the original MVS.
Ralph I just acquired an original Pac Man arcade machine, Needs work. I want to keep original Pac-Man theme, but gut it.... Add LCD screen, new (1-joy stick, 3 button w/trac-ball) panel and make it a multi-cade. With the limited control set up, I only want to put classic arcade games in this. What Is the best jamma multi-PCB for this?? I saw you hate the Game Elf: Vertical 412-in-1.
Shenanigans and we all missed it! LMAO!
Retro Copperfield ... haha.
I got that exact same lcd controller board and same monitor in my mvsx, but the native resolution and any 4:3 resolution are all shifted to the right by a couple of hundred pixels. There's nothing overscan can do. Starting to think it's a hardware issue if software can't handle it.
Well the monitor is actually a 5:4 monitor and not a 4:3 as advertised on their website. What are you hooking up to it Pi, Pandroas box?
@@RetroRalph thanks for your reply :) Raspberry pi, fresh install. Also tried hooking up Windows to the monitor to see if it's not Raspbian but the same issue.
No matter what resolution I select, there's always a huge black border on the left.
The funny thing is, when I set the resolution to 1080p, the screen is filled up to the left border but of course falls off on the right. When I select 1280x1024 or 1024x768, the image still falls off the right part, because the image only starts with a big offset from the left.
When I select fullscreen in the osd picture size, it stretches out non HD resolutions to the left but still falls off the right, because it looks like it's trying to stretch 5:4 to a widescreen format...
It's driving me nuts! There is one element in the monitor osd menu that is not available and it's the second one in the menu where you can move/rescale the picture...
@@MotleyCooper hmmm I wonder if the Pandora’s box is scaling the image somehow to fit the 5:4 aspect ratio. That's weird man... Isn't there a setting in retroarch to support 5:4 monitors? Did you try that by chance?
@@RetroRalph in retropie I messed around with forcing resolutions and overscans the whole evening. I stopped thinking retropie is the problem. It's also there with Windows.
I'm gonna keep on digging though, contacted the manufacturer of the controller, they seem pretty active on Amazon.
Made a video of what it looks like. In /boot/config.txt I'm forcing 1280x1024 and you can tell by the osd that it's being applied correctly. But there's always a bar on the left.
Playing around with built in picture modes only shows that it all starts from the middle.

Could you install your CBOX in there? I was wondering if that was possible to make it a REAL Neo Geo
Hmmm.... I didn't really think of that but it would be a pretty cool idea. It might be cheaper to just install a single slot MVS board since you can get them for $40-50 these days. I think it would fit too... I don't know if you ever saw it but I put original Neo Geo hardware in this MOD I did forever ago... ruclips.net/video/n0Vqezl9jXg/видео.html
Retro just can't keep his hands off the goodies😂🔦🔩🔨🔧
why did the mvs X come with a 6 button layout instead of the original 4? blasphemy.
I called it. I knew u were gonna open it off camera
LOL!
Don't forget to screw the grounding wire coming out of the display cable on the VSDisplay board!
That's messed up Ralph and now I know if I tell you to not do something you're going to do it 😂
Well, after Linus Tech Tips did it, it kinda became fair game ;-) I would keep your secrets Brad ... haha.
@@RetroRalph got that link? Or are you you referring to mad little pixel?
Heck of a mod. Step 1) throw out the main board with the cpu & all the games.
Lol. I had to rewatch a few times to catch that.
I am requesting a Nvidia Shield mod. I got an extra one that I could put in it.
Guess youre waiting on me eh? Lol
YES!!! LOL
Ill send it soon. Maybe when I hit 1k 🤣
Naughty
Embargo lifted lol
LOL! After Linux Tech Tips got the green light it was fair game ;-) Thanks for watching bud!
I am going to mod that stupid mini coin door right off
First
Keep in it stock bruh.
So, you're the one that stripped the screws.
lololol every other reviewer was like "someone stripped out the screws :| "
Totally appreciate your effort , but damn if all you people are gonna mod 500 dollars worth of stuff , build something yourselves , you will be way happier without the screen or control limitations, the community couldn't be anymore helpful so many name cabinet building forums and fb pages and discords and bragging rights when you're done
I don’t disagree with you on this at all but some get overwhelmed with projects like that and just want a simple path. It’s the reason all the Arcade1up modding stuff has become so popular. The level of effort is fairly low, the cost is more but people are paying for the simplicity. I would rather build a DIY kit myself but I personally have fun tinkering with these products to get the most of of them, it’s kind of a disease to be quite honest. 😆
$500 is too much money for this to rip apart and put in a Pi. I think there are cheaper cabs to buy for modding unless you really love this cab.
I order the bundle, spent 699 euros considering also delivery, vat and custom to Italy
Fun video and makes no sense hahaha
That's one expensive mod.
Yes, modding is expensive.
