Mines start Next Monday in pulmonology I have to do 50 clinical Hours For my CCMA then there are 2 tests after externship the book/labs test of the week/months you learned Then the Holy grail😂The NHA Exam I Got This
Hi, I start externship tomorrow morning which will be a month long- 160 hrs. I finished the program a week ago and took the NCCT exam. I passed! I'm older, close to mid-50's and decided to start a new career. I'm a bit nervous but do appreciate all you mentioned in the video on the "Do's and Don'ts".
Hey, I just passed my NHA CCMA exam earlier today, I feel so happy and it really made my dream come true! Thank you for reviewing NHA CCMA exam, I truly appreciate you and I really thank you for your help!😊🙏🏼
I go on my externship in September and graduation is in November, I'm really excited as I progress through my program, I even took the liberty of jotting down a couple of offices that I would like to do my extern.
All of these videos are AMAZING!! I just started ccma program and I'm currently working as a PAR. my online school told me they'd help me find an externship place, but my current job asked me when I get the externship if I'd choose them bc they'd love to have me! I'm so excited! So nervous for the NHA exam!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for this! I start my externship next month (January 2023) and was looking for some tips! I will be watching more of your videos!
I’ve still got 2 months before I can start my externship but I appreciate the tips! Could we also get a part 2 of Do’s and Dont’s? I know you mentioned a lot more things were coming to mind throughout the video and I would love to hear them. ❤️

I really enjoyed this video! I have watched a couple other channels, just out of curiosity, but this was such a good video I just had to comment, especially when you said you went to MA school in 2004; that's when I went too! I went with the sole purpose of working in OB/GYN, and I was extremely blessed to be hired at the end of my externship. I loved that job so much; but unfortunately I had to quit because the pay was so low I could not survive on what they paid me. I have regretted that so much, and I wish I could have found a way to make it work. I'd go back to it today if I could, but I'm too old I think! Lol! I still have my backpack with all of my school stuff in it; I could never bear to throw any of it away. Anyway, I subscribed to your channel and I'm gonna binge on your videos and feel sorry for myself 🤣🤣 You are a lovely person, and I'm sure you are an excellent instructor. Thank you for the great video!
Hey, Wendy! First off, thank you for your kind words ❤️ And I love that we went around the same time and you still have your stuff lol… I had some stuff for a long time as well and I eventually let it go when I moved. Secondly, it’s never too late ☺️ If you ever think about going back, I’m sure they pay so much more now, especially since so many companies are in need after the impact of the pandemic
@@MedicalAssistingwithMsK My daughter just told me the same thing; I might have to do some checking! Thank you for your kind response. You made my day! ❤️
One person at my externship told me to sweep and mop the entire office. They wanted me to wash walls and all kinds of cleaning stuff! My externship was only 2 weeks I found it to be a waste of time to be continuously cleaning and not gaining hands on experience.
@@rebeccavan4335 some schools require that you take your certification exam first. However, if they don’t have a requirement, I recommend taking externship first because what you learn on it will help you prepare for certification. And it gives you more time to study.
I understand that things come up. This is why it’s so important to be on time and show up every day so when things come up that you have no control over, it won’t be an issue if you need to take off. Hopefully these things don’t happen while you’re on externship 🙏🏾 One thing you can do from the very beginning is let them know you have a young child and that there’s a possibility that you may have to take a day or two off at some point.
Hey, Kiara! I actually don’t have access to the RMA study material. But you still have time to get ready. Two months is plenty time to get prepared so you should be fine. AMT has exam review and study guides on their website that you can buy if your school is not providing it for you. You can also check out Quizlet. Keep us posted
I was hired to be trained on the job as a medical assistant. I've been working in that capacity since September 20, 2021. Can that count as an externship?
I don't think so but you would need to ask your school. My school would say no because you're technically not an MA until you complete an externship. For example, the RMA certification requires you to complete a 160-hour externship before you can even get your certification. You can take your test but you have to submit a transcript to receive your actual cert.
Ms. K , Is it very important to do the Externship hrs in clinic hands-on, rather than online that is offered in School Canvas because of Covid ?? And does this really matter if employers ask ? I’m scheduled for NHA CCMA Testing in September.
Hey, Kat… most medical assistant schools will not even let you finish the program without the hands-on externship but because of Covid things have been different so I’m not sure. I recommend applying to private offices and let them know that you do not have externship experience but that you are very teachable. Also, try medical assistant recruiting agencies in your area. You can do a Google search for them. Sometimes that is the best way to get your foot in the door because they get paid to find you a job
Hi, what’s your primary language? Just let your site know and you can be transparent with your patients and let them know you have an accent and you can confirm with them that they understand what you’re saying. Don’t be afraid to ask your coworkers or providers what something means when you don’t understand. And one of the things I recently told a student is to use it to your advantage and be a translator for patients who come in speaking your language. Maybe you can look for work in an area where they primarily speak your language. Let me know if this helps.

I'm glad you reported them! That's crazy and not fair that you can't use your skills there. They had to enter into a contract with your school to become an externship site... and they are breaching that contract. Did your school let them go?
@@zaskiacolon thank you for sharing this… I’m going to make a video talking about this, although I mentioned it briefly in the video. I’ve had students who have experienced something similar so it’s definitely a real thing. I wanna make make sure students know it’s okay to report when this happens.
