I just turned 50 years young and I have gotten back into deejaying after a 15 break and I am loving it. I have serato, my old numark turntables, because my 1200's were stolen, and a cheap numark mixer. But it is all going well and people are loving it, young and old. Knowing that I can still mix and scratch is a complete joy, and I feel really great when I am playing in front of a crowd. They seem to be amazed which makes me feel super. TLMTV has great information djs and individuals who want to learn how to dj. I am Mixmaster TonyT and I'm out. Peace.

I'm 48 years old and I started DJing about a year ago. Being a musician and dancer, I felt I had an advantage with understanding musicality. I started playing at small social dance events and worked my way up. I am now the resident DJ for two major local clubs and play twice a week. It's never too late :)

Thanks for the video. I'm 36 and I just started DJing back in October. Its always something I wanted to do and finally made the time to do it. YOLO I also started my Djing off right by purchasing a Pioneer DDJ-SZ so I made the commitment and was all in. So I encourage anyone to do it at any age, but I sure wish I would've done it when I was younger I cant lie!

I started djing in 2009. I was 47 then. I started out with the first Hercules RMX. Practiced at home until I felt very comfortable and then started booking gigs. I am now a full time dj who does mobile gigs, weddings, private functions, bars and clubs. I use the Pioneer DDJ-SX2. I will turn 55 this year and my djing life could not be better. I am living proof that if you are dedicated, professional and take care of yourself, you can make a great career from djing no matter how old you are. Great video here! I love your channel!

I made the decision to jump back into entertainment as a whole (business and DJing) at the age of 35 just 2 years ago. Currently earning my degree in Communications - PR and Event Planning plus i spin the local clubs. Always been in tune with the evolution of each genre. Still rocking the vinyls but this time time coded. Most of what I've learned about all the new technology, I learned from your channel! So i truly appreciate your videos. If you think about it, any successes i have, i will owe in part to you. Thank you for all you do.
I've learned you are NEVER too old to feed your passions in life and as long as i have ears and hands, from here on out, I'll be spinning for someone, even if just myself.
    Thanks for the vid! :)

Hello Dj TLM. Thank you for all the knowledge and information you have provided through this medium. I am a blind DJ from the United States, and has found your videos to be helpful beyond measure. I sometimes encounter people who don’t take me seriously, because all they see is a person with a disability. But I have learned never focus your energy on what you can’t do, but master the things you can. What you present keeps me grounded and encourage. Please continue.

DJING has been a dream of mine as long as I can remember. I come from a family of DJS, and I've always loved the energy and ambience of DJING. I can remember helping my cousins dig through his crates, and pull Records for him during his sets. Ironically I've never owned Turntables, and as I grew older and moved on with life, Turntables were always to expensive.. Anyway, I'm looking into getting a Controller, and Some software, and start out slow and enjoy every second of it. I'm 38, and as long as you have the hunger for knowledge, your never to old for anythimg

Yeah you're right. I used to dj in the '80s and stopped early '90s. Was always looking from a distance tough. Since a year i'm back busy with the 1&2's and you're right, it takes (like back then) a hell lot of time keep up with the new releases. But you gotta do it... know your records in and out to be able to make the best mixes/transitions. Love your work dawg!

Started back in the mid 80s got well into it and quit early 90s and sold 1200's. Bought 1210s 10 yrs ago with a club mixer. Scratch skills were rusty and mixer impracticable but picked things up fairly quickly and not much had changed in 13yrs technology wise. Another 10 yrs on there is a big change, a lot of new scratches and the toys today make the whole experience very interesting. Using a great DJ Tech scratch mixer and Dicers with Traktor which is great fun. I intend to get back into this as its as addictive as ever, however getting a few aches as the finger joints have been dormant for so long ;)

To immerse your self in the DJ life is like jumping in to the DEEP end of the pool from a high diving platform, you never forget the rush of the tight music mix, the response of the crowd, the satisfaction of putting on a great show, the high that you have to come down from after the show is over ( your mind stays in "mix mode" for quite a while). I love it, and though I don't do as many gigs as I used to do, when I get the green light, I do my best to bring it! It's like diving in all over again for the first time. I will mix 'till I'm 80 !! #Last Night A DJ Saved My Life !!

Well said brother. I am a promoter/DJ who stopped DJing, not producing 20 years ago. Lots of DJs who are 15 years older than me and I'm 40. Part of me hates the fact that anyone can beat match now since I spent a lot of time learning. However, cutting, transforming, crabbing is a thing I spent every day of my childhood learning and there isn't much of a place for it anymore. Plus I'm all vinyl. I hate the sound of mp3s or even FLAC over vinyl. Good talk on it.

been a musician (guitarist) since high school, I started working as a KJ about 5 years ago to help a family member in their restaurant. eventually, people hired me to do a few KJ/DJ gigs at universities. I didn't know there was so much more to DJing but eventually I learned (and keep learning thanks to your videos). I bought pro gear and I have been practicing and I feel I'm ready to do this professionally. I am in my mid 30's. I think all these transitions in my musical background has helped me get the hang of DJing like second nature.

I am 48 and I just retired from my job. I work part time therefore giving me time to do something I always loved. Back in my teens and early 20s I use to play at a couple of local clubs and parties. The people liked me back then. I was limited because I didn't have my own equipment. Recently I stepped out on faith and purchased me some equipment and am ready to really practice and get back in the game. My friends and my brother says that I still got it and will do good. They observed me playing at a couple of parties recently only using my iPhone, a Bluetooth party speaker and a mic. I like different genres of music. I am flexible because I like the old and new stuff. I've watched a lot of tutorial videos on djing which has helped me out a lot. Thanks TLM.

I still own one Technics turntable and would like to purchase another. You are never to old to pursue your interests.

I want to thank you for this video. I am a 45yo man. I had to teach myself everything I know (No RUclips in the very early 90's), and I began with 2 turntables and a microphone. I held my first job at a club for 10 straight years, but after 10 years I started getting burned out on the whole club scene and working nights and weekends. I've held on to all of the music I had back then just in the off chance I ever wanted to work again, I'd already have a huge selection of the greatest club tracks in the 90's. I've just recently started wanting to mix again, though right now I think I just want to do it as a hobby in my home (don't have to deal with the drunks and high customers). Being my age and having been out of the business for so long, I have not kept up with the hot club tracks for the past 10+ years. I don't even like much of today's much (with a few exceptions). So chances are good that I just do it as a hobby unless a club wants mostly music between '70-'05.
Anyway, my point to all this is I agree with everything you said here. Music has always been and will always be a dominate force in my life, and I agree 100% that you're never too old to pick up where you left off and explore all of today's new technology. I'll be buying a controller as soon as my tax return gets here.
I'm a subscriber and love your videos with your tips, tricks, and knowledge you share. This is the best channel and you're are the best tutor of all I've seen. Keep up the awesome job. Much love and respect.

I have just posted this to another DJTLM Video , and I thought this might be a more appropriate vid to a this comment too.
I have only just found this DJTLM ,,,and can I say ,,,,what a real nice , genuine and informative guy, and in this vid, he talks a lot of sense.
I have been DJ-ing for well over 40 years, since at school in the 70's , and while in the Military from 78-2000, I then was semi pro from 97-2000(while still in the Military ) and then became a full time pro from then on till today aged 55 and still spinning too a mixed crowd in a busy tourist resort in Greece. I also have never felt to old to be a DJ.
DJ-ing has taken me all over the world (USA, Canada, Caribbean ,Europe and far East) now resident DJ in Greece full time since 2008. I am still learning today and never stopped educating myself in Music , technique, equipment and people skills.
I have seen it from Vinyl , CD's , and now MP3, I pioneered video Dj-ing back in the 90's , when it was so expensive in the equipment and Licensing and in the last year just returned to the genre and love it, as my venue is so video geared .
However it can also come at a price in relationships and your marriage , so it you have to also balance your personal life with it and it can be an anti social job for your family, and resentment can set in.
As for being to old , I have never felt too old and I am lucky that I do not feel my age and I can relate to the 18-30 crowd as well as the older generations , DJTLM hit it on the head there are many factor's and consideration 's , to take into account music, skill, and knowledge , if you want to go for it , go go go ,
Again Keep up the good work DJTLM , I have now subscribed .

Hello from Guam, I like your instructional video and yup never to old. I started in Junior high (early/mid 1970's) and the High school (mid/late 1975-9) DJ'ing with the school equipment under the Electronic Classes at the time. back then we used whatever we could connect; turntable record players, 8 track cartridges, tape decks etc into the mixer then on to the amps and then speakers. It was fun....fast forward....2017 starting up again, although not easy, old electronic's to new computer base systems, but with some practice and tutorials like your's I think I could pickup where I left of....thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Ya, I gotta say go for it. I started back in 9th grade, Did clubs, mobiles mix shows on air major market radio and concert openers back when there really weren't many Dj's for many years.Actually paid the bills having fun. For the love of music. Age means nothing! I use serato scratch live and the SL1200 MK2's because I like the original feel of vinyl. That's all we had when I started. I do use some other tools here and then like an M audio controller or guitar rig. I'm pushing 51 now and still rock hard. With the modern tools I can be even more creative, no more cutting tape on the editing block. :)

I'm 45 and still do about 2 gigs a year. I get my gigs through word of mouth and I am not focused on doing much more than that at the moment. I mostly only take the bottom feeder gigs because I don't have a nice modern elegant Bridal sound system or lots of lights. I tend to do mostly back yard family parties (pool parties, family picnics and small reunions) Very casual stuff. I still spin vinyl and i often get that itch to put together that nice Wedding system with possibly 10" tops and 15"subs (both powered cabinets) and an clean elegant professional lighting system.
I often get the itch to go big as well and do more of a Mobile Production Company that focuses on large sound system rentals (multiple dual 18" W-fold sub cabs and tons of flown 12" tops), lighting rentals and staging as much as the DJ aspect. I'm thinking school dances, street festivals, corporate events, and live bands, up to and including a high school football stadiums.
I know I ain't too old for those kind of gigs because I still have the Professionalism, the music knowledge and the equipment knowledge to play in front of age groups from 8yo to 80yo.

Thanks for giving me some mental support djTLM!! Am just browsing thru all your youtube programs that I find relevant to satisfy my queries. I Dee jayed like 20 years ago at a semi professional level. And after a long pause, wanna get back and set fire to da dancefloor agin!! luckily have kept track on new stuff, 'cos i worked nightshifts in close contact with the much younger crowd....... And most of all..I am single and have no family to which i have to cater (nor siblings or ex wife).
Keep up the excellent work!! I get a lot of inspiration from you!!

thanks for that inspiration. I used to DJ 20 years ago. When my first son was born, I had to put deejaying on the back burner and finish college. 20 years later here I am getting back in the game I love the most besides cars. I have new equipment coming in from Amazon and PSSL.com. Didn't even know they discontinued the 1200s. (yeah I'm old.)

You shout out to you DJTLM. I have always loved music but never followed my dream. Being able to entertain people is my thing and thanks to you videos you helped me pick the right equipment and have more respect for the art of Djing. I hope to graduate to turntables but I have to crawl before I walk. Thanks for all the info. Most people dont like to share knowledge but get mad and say you are not a real dj. But they wont teach you how to be one. Mad love homie. All the way from Louisiana.

I stopped DJing right as Stanton Final Scratch came out. i used to rock clubs and parties like no other DJ in town. I learned on Numarks, never had money for 1200s. But 15 years later with a career and college degree, i have whatever equipment i want. Im back on the grind and my kids had no idea their dad throws down. Not a huge fan of newer "hiphop", but as a dj i know whats good. I get crazy on throwbacks tho. Thanks TLM, guys like u brought me back.

Hi TLM I'm 21 years old and I have recently started DJing but I feel a little bit discouraged because I feel as if I'm too old to start DJing and I am also finding it very hard to learn how to mix genres like pop and hip hop so that is also holding me back how do you recommend that I overcome this issue? :)

You are spot on. My thoughts exactly. Great video, keep up the good work.
Personally I fall into the returning DJ after a long break t0 have family career etc. I'm having a lot of fun with all the new digital gear and one of my big things is helping out others learn how to do this. Along with the youngsters too.
For older returning DJ's there is a lot of good news in terms of gear is generally cheaper, music abundant and easily accessible. On top of which there are also the people who were clubbing back then coming back now too. SO lots of 90's style or before gigs around.

Wow you are so encouraging! I am in my 40s and just got started learning to mix. Fortunately, I have a computer background and played music in high school so have some music skill. Picking up the software has been easier for me as I am tech savvy. Learning the techniques and skills on the controller and mixing takes effort but is serious fun! Most DJs I meet are half my age but heck I love it.

Started off with turntables in the latin freestyle / deep house era in the 90's with 1200's. I am close to 50 and i have never been so excited about djing with all the cool technology! It is more than beat matching now and really exercises your brain and skills. I got back into it with ddj-sx2 and no regrets. Thanks djtlm for the inspiring video!

This video sums me up. I'm 43 and have loved music my whole life, hip hop/rap has always been my first love in life. Recently though I got a controller so I could indulge that love and I'm having a lot of fun playing around with the songs I love, I'm no Dr Dre but I'm enjoying myself.
For me I see it as a hobby thing rather than a job at my age but who knows....

Neva too old for DJing! I started on vinyl back in 82 and stopped around 92. I was mostly a mobile Dj and hobbist. I also dabbled in Hip Hop production back in the 90’s. Did a remix for Kool G rap (Enter da Dragon, Lifestyles of the rich and famous). Also released various artist on vinyl thru “Tape Kingz” and “Backyard Records” etc.. All are on RUclips anyway the point is whether you were in the game and want to get back in or just starting, you are never too old to Persue your dreams. I came back (production wise) several times. In 2000 with “Devious : Ghetto Fabulous “ 2003 “Space : One Night” 2015 with “Dj Thyst Presents The Essence” and a new release of old artists that I produced by Ruff Roosta Records called Bizzum 2017(Netherlands)As far as DJing I’ve done 2 weddings, and 4 house parties for my daughter in the last 15 years. I love to scratch and I love old school. I also have a family so it is difficult to incorporate my DJing. My wife has 2 rules for me. #1: It cannot interfere in family or relationship time. #2: I have to either make some money doing it or not spend any money or out of the way effort in doing it. Example: if I am doing something for free it better not cost me anything including inconvenience. Gas,tolls,equipment,food,drink,etc...

Age is just a number. No matter what you want to accomplish in the world. Just do what you truly love! You will never be judged by your age. Just by the level work you output when you DJ.

    Hey TLM,
Just taking a moment to big you up on your commitment to impart a wealth of knowledge, sound advice, and expert guidance. So, "Big Up" TLM, and Thank You!
10yrs ago I found myself in the fortuitous position of being able to build the home music production studio I had always wanted. Though I was somewhat disinterested in production at the time, and more enthusiastic about DJing, I built it anyway! "Why invest in equipment, and commit to acquiring a skillset less familiar?"...
Today, all of that expensive software is now obsolete, and all that remains of the hardware are the studio monitors that now serve as pa speakers! They say you should always "DO what you feel, and feel what you do!"... the heart always wins eventually!
I'm now 6yrs deep, with a steady increase in the number of bookings. Still far from established, but I headline daf*q outta my bedroom to a rapturous crowd... or maybe that's just my neighbours! ✌🏾

Hey man good video. Dj Dimsa is in his late 50's. And his music selection is impeccable! I'm an old school 40 something head too , I learned on vinyl back in the eighties, went the production route for a while in the mid 90's, and now I'm spinning again with a controller. Once It's in you...It's in you! Keep up the good work with the Vids!
    Peace....

Hey TLM one of the greatest benefits of DJing late in life is if your health is up to date. Other than that, DJing is about the heart not your age. You can be young but if your hearts not into it, it's a wrap. Good video.

Never too old!! Lol. Im 45 and after more than 20 years i dug out the ol wheels of steel. Im retired military now and have nothing but time on my hands. I will agree im way behind the power curve when it comes to modern tech and modern music. But i guess you would consider me to be what you younger guys call Old Skool Turntablist. Lol. Right now its a hobby and a passion. We never know whats down the road. Until then, gotta dust off the bones and get back into shape. Btw, lots of great info youre putting out. Keep it going bro.

I'm exactly one of the DJ's you were speaking about lol. I started spinnin Hip Hop & R&B locally about 1990 & stopped around the early 2000's (THE GOLDEN ERA BY THE WAY!!!) & i had a ball doing it. As the music became more commercial the more underground went. I grudgingly realized that the "era" was gone so i decided to hang it up but still kept my 12's. You never know lol. Anyway about a year or two ago i dusted those bad boys off and started to play & i was a kid again with a lot more greys in my beard though. I had a ton of music downloaded over the years & recently decided to get myself a pair of CDJ's & though they are not my 12's they do the trick. Little did i know that after watching another one of your video's on hooking up 1200's to a Serato box did i realize i could've used my 12's and still play digital music so older returning dj's DO YOUR RESEARCH (watch djTLM videos) before you get back into it. I wish i heard about you sooner though. Could've saved a bunch of $$$. By far, you are the Dr Phil of the DJ world!!! djTLM keep doing what your doing!!!

Your Never to old!! i was 23 when i started but i had to stop because personal reasons but Music is something u just cant walk away from so now im coming back with baby steps and i know plenty of older women and men who started even later in, Plus sometimes promoters look for oldier dj;s because of their party cause lets be honest i rather see an guy is his late 50/60's spinning Awesome funk soul and Disco it just looks better.
