- In this video I go over the installation of the EcoTech VorTech Battery Backup that is used to run your MP10, MP20, MP40 or MP60 in the event of a power outage. Keeping water circulation in your saltwater aquarium or freshwater aquarium is critical during a power outage to ensure proper gas exchange is taking place.

You make a good point regarding comparing this unit with a standard non-proprietary UPS/battery back-up and the vastly different duration of battery power.
Thank you Andy!
Great Purchase! Especially with winter right around the corner. Can't wait for the 1 year update!
sounded perfectly fine, i do like the in depth detail of the battery, i also have the apex and the vortechs, going to definitely add one of these for insurance
well done and for peace of mind worth it ,iv gone down the generator and inverter route, the generator for when i'm there and the inverter for when i'm not
I love my battery backup. I have mine running two mp10 on my reef tank
Nice video.
Very Informative, Thanks for the Video....Keep up the good work
Thank you! With all the excitement around starting my tank... This subject didn't occurTo me. Be well !
Thanks Manny, best of luck with the new build.
Nice job, I need to get one.
great video
It is important to note that if you plan to have the apex send an email notification when the power goes out, that your internet systems are on a UPS as well. Most important are the router and internet/cable modem. If those devices do not have power the apex will be unable to connect to the internet to send the notification.
Nice!
Hey Gil, thanks for this video, getting ready to buy my battery backups for my build. What do you do for a backup in the sump as well, specifically if you have a chamber that contains live bio media filtration or macro algae, etc? Or what do you currently do for that? Thanks
Hey Robert, power outages are very rare here and if they do happen, it's resolved within a couple of hours. I'm waiting for the IceCap battery back up to become available and I'll use that to keep my Gyre's going. Nothing else would be powered on.
Very Informative. Thanks.
Thank you very much Peter!
Hi RG - Great video and information. How do you manage your return pump from Sump or Fuge during power outage...or is that not as critical?
+Manny Alvarez Hey Manny, not as critical for the first few hours. The pumps are most important to keep gas exchange going. I would say a heater is next most important then everything else like lights and filtration. A power outage lasting days will crush a tank even if it has this battery backup.
what did you do with the rkl? and if ur selling it how much?
im looking into a wholehouse generator, i dont wanna chance it any longer. My Uncles tank crashed from a power outage.
When charged can you keep the power supply on the battery? Will this effect the lifespan of the battery?
I keep my MP40s plugged into the battery backup 24 7. The battery back up is plugged into the outlet 24 7 also. Hope that answered your question.
With this work with AI Nero pumps?
Nice info. mate, how's the usable lifespan for this batt. backup unit? Thanks in advance!
Hey Alpha, I've had mine for a long time, maybe 2.5 years. No issues whatsoever.
+ReeferGil Amazing :)
Good investment
too bad only works with those pumps. nice vid as usual
Nice man, it should of came with screws!
you got that right lol after one use it will pay for it self
Imagine youre not home, lose power without this backup. Tank crash for sure. This battery backup is worth saving hundreds of dollars worth of fish and coral. Besides the years of work and attachment ...
EXACTLY!! A very necessary insurance policy for the tank.
Lol for that price they can’t include 7 screws
LMAO, no joke! Thanks Toky!
