We were there in 2021, in August. Definitely cicadas. They called them tzazckis because of the sound. The food was outstanding. Castles of Mani are worth the drive.
My favourite spot for breakfast is La Plaz great service great brekky great view of the bay great setting at the waters edge. Cool music. Everytime I go to Ghythio it is a must stopover for me. Nice vid. They say the cliffs above Valtaki on a clear day sometimes you can see the sunken city of ancient Ghythion. At Valtaki beach the longish walls protruding into the bay are if the ancient city. Cool bar open till the last one leaves at Valtaki beach near the car park.
