Kefalonia, situated to the west of mainland Greece, is an absolute standout destination to visit when travelling through Greece.
The landscape of the island is unique and truly breathtaking, featuring some of the most dramatic coastlines in the Mediterranean, stunning azure beaches and picturesque villages with the friendliest locals!
Arriving in Kefalonia has always been like a homecoming for me, having family roots on the island and where possible Sebastian and I try to return often.
On this trip, we spent 7 days on the island visiting relatives and many of our favorite locations.

Greetings from America. I was on Kefalonia for two weeks in 2019, and I agree it is absolutely one of the most beautiful islands in Greece. And I say that as someone who has visited many of them.
Have you guys ever heard of Karpathos? For me it is my #1 favorite island in all of Greece. The wild beauty and the authentic culture are incredible.
Thanks for watching. Yes we have heard of Karpathos and would love to go there! Each time we travel to Greece, we try to cover new islands, so eventually we will get there too! We have only visited Kos and Rhodes in the dodecanese at this stage.
when you are travelling in greek islands try to choose the place that you will stay, to be close to the center of the island so you will have everything in your feet!
Agreed, that definitely helps as it's a large island with so much to see.

Loved the video, very informative! I’ve only been to the Cyclades and I’m dying to explore the Ionian side. Kefalonia looks absolutely beautiful. I’ve read June and September are ideal months to go since there aren’t as many tourists. When did you guys go?
Thank you. You definitely should visit the Ionian islands 😀. They have they have their own character and are different from the Aegean Islands. .
Awesome informative video guys. I’m trying to decide which will be the first Greek island I’ll travel to out of Kefalonia, Alonissos, or Paxos (have you been to these islands?) I keep being drawn back to Kefalonia. It reminds of Sardegna (which is my fave in Italy). Oh and a like 👍🏼 re humidity is it humid or a dry heat in Kef?
Have only been to Kefalonia out of the three! Paxos is on the next travel itinerary to Greece! Have heard it's like the Maldives of Greece!

Thank you. I live in Australia but a Greece trip is ALWAYS in the planning. Would love to cover the Sporades region including those two. They have their own charm which is different from the Ionian islands but you cannot go wrong with any Greek Island

Great video! Thanks. I am planning to go there end of Apr for a month. Curious if shops/restaurants are open this time of the year? Seems like tourism season starts in June so wanna make sure that locals are still living a normal life😊
Generally the tourism season on the island starts from May. You will find a few shops/ restaurants will be open all year. The island has a reasonable all year population to sustain all year business.

Great video guys. We're going at the start of Sept. And why do wasps always have to show up and spoil the moment making you run around like a pansy flapping your arms! There's worse I guess...hornets.

I believe that this beautiful island which looks more subtropical than Mediterranean is not over run by tourists . Mykonos is a joke and is too crowded in summer . You couldn’t swing a cat on Paradise beach . Kefalonia is the only Greek island I would visit and Sardinia Italy .

Totally agree Louisa. Spent a week on both 2 years ago. Hated Mykonos. If we hadn't paid for our accommodation we would have gone back to Kef. Just wish it wasn't a 20hr plus flight to get there for us.
Kef is great, but Ithaki is even better!
Ithaki is a dream! We have been a couple of times but this was before we created our RUclips. A return to Ithaki is on the plans next time we get to Greece!

Parking is free, but just observe any no standing signs. I did get a fine one year for parking in a taxi zone! .
Lixouri a town of 45 thousand people? That'll be the day...

Hi there, this was filmed in August 2022 and was part of a long trip travelling in Europe. I've visited the island in May in the past, and it was pleasant but still a little cool.
Don't worry my friend, the weather and temperature will be good enough when you'll come and it will not be crouded 🇬🇷

Lixouri 45,000 population? There's only 35,000 on the whole island. At least fact check

I actually said Lixouri is a town of 4 to 5 thousand people, not 45 thousand..
did you hire a car or a bike?
On this trip we had a car. It's a large island and unfortunately public transport is limited so a car or motor bike is needed
Mirtos ?
We have been to Mirtos in the past, but generally, don't stop in Mirtos. It is often very busy and can be hard to get in and out of with the car. I would, however, recommend taking a picture from the lookout above and just going to Petani, which is a similar beach.
