How many coats of epoxy do you use at the end? Just 1 coat or do you do a 2nd coat before it's officially finished.... I just did 2 cups using your method and Oh My Gosh how easy and so thankful for your video!!
Oh wow awesome, I'm so glad it helped!!! On these I only did one coat. Some techniques require 2 coats but the woodgrain and the crackle usually only do one good coat.😉👍
InstaBlaster...
Where did you get the fish decal
I enjoyed the humor and info that was put into this video.
Taylor as always I absolutely love ALL of your videos!! I also use the chip brush, the makeup brush just didn't do it for me either! I have my wood grain on my TT! But I did one that I hand painted to, which came out awesome! I'd love to see you do an airbrush one! 😉 Thank you for keeping me entertained, and educated!!
Sweet! I'll have to check it out!
Legit, the best tumbler tutorials out there! Your humor and creativity keep me watching for hours!!
🙌🏼Thanks!!! That makes my day!😉👍
You’re so goofy! And I LOVE IT!!!! I laughed and learned something at the same damn time!Thank you so much for sharing. They turned out awesome!
🤣🤣🤣 Hey what can I say, the goofiness comes natural, LOL! So glad you enjoyed it and learned something!😉👍
See this is why I love you my friend so many new ideas and I was just asked my a family member if I could make a cup for her husband. He is an avid Hunter and this would be perfect for him ❤️
Perfecto!!👌
You do one of the best wood grain I've seen. Thank you for sharing your technique.
Wow thank you!
Cool wooden cups.
Going to try to make some for my firework crew as gifts. Thank you for the help getting started.
These are always a hit!
Awww he’s adorable 🤣🥰 I love his personality. So nice to enjoy a video that isn’t so serious and blah
🤣🤣Thanks!!👍
Love it going to try just learning to do cups
it is fun and addicting!
Lord help me! You are amazing at wood grain. I am new and it really is effortless and SO satisfying, but you have it down! LOVE this peekaboo. My products are in a little country store and this is perfect!
Awesome!
I didn't scan all your comments to see if somebody had already answered it but they make them like that so they fit in the cup holder. At least I know that's why they do it on the 30 Oz. Thank you so much for your video
Unrelated (and you may have already tried this), but have you tried using a super-saturated urea+dishsoap solution as a masking layer? It results in an almost crystalline effect. If I remember correctly, you put down a light colored basecoat, let it dry, spray the urea solution over the top, let it crystallize, spray a dark colored coat over the urea, let it dry, then rinse the urea off leaving the crystal pattern.
I have not heard of that!😱👍
When I hear 2 minutes of this guys sense of humor, I am like are you me
Outstanding! Was just talking to my Daughter yesterday about what to get for her Hubs for Fathers Day!
I did my very FIRST woodgrain tumbler and was very happy with the way it came out!! I already have someone who order one :) Thanks 😊
I just finished my second cup using this technique, and everyone loved it!
yessss!!!
Wow amazing I now have a Father’s Day cup to do.
There ya go!
You are hilarious... I think I will do my hubby a woodgrain, but since he doesn't hunt, I think I will make my decal our initials so when I remove it, it will look like our initials carved into the tree... THANK YOU for showing how to do that.
That is a GREAT idea!! I would love to see it when you get finished!
So I just stumbled upon your channel... i adore watching you. You are by far the most relatable person ever to watch. You're funny, real, and just plain educational. Thank you!
W😀W! Awesome! Thanks!!!
This is awesome! More men should vids like you. Thanks ❤️
Thank you! You got just me for now, lol
Loving all your cups. Talented beyond measure!!! Gifted by GOD..
Thank you! God is good!!
Love that your tutorial is not boring… I was wondering if you do a clearcoat before the epoxy?
Yes, Rustoleum matte clearé
Glad you warned it goes green! It is crazy! Wonderful tumbler
I LOVE your videos!! My first attempt was a disaster!!! I watched your video several times to be sure I didn't miss anything. I painted a tumbler white , sanded it, got the wood stain on it and when I went to seal it with the spray you use - the entire tumbler bubbled up instantly! Was kind of a crackled glass effect - It looks fabulous in the trash can! No tears - moved on to attempt #2 with a tumbler that I purchased pre-painted. It worked perfectly! The take away is to purchase the pre-painted tumblers I believe!
That was a reaction of the spray paint not playing nice with the woodgrain paint
Thank you!! I made 4 cups following this for Christmas gifts! They look amazing!
Awesome!!
Could you make a video of how you epoxy the rim so it stays sealed without the epoxy getting on the inside? Thanks
Man, best wood tumbler I have seen yet. Thank you for the inspiration. I will be making these as gifts for family! Thank you again bro, LOVE your videos!!
Thanks, they are sooo much fun to do and they are a big hit!
You are a hoot, man! I enjoy watching your tutorials!
Thanks!!
I know this is 4 years old now but I'm new to tumblers and I absolutely love this cup! Did you have to use the clear coat to seal the second layer of alcohol ink or did you go straight in to epoxy? Also, do you think you could show how to make knots in the wood grain? LOVE your tutorials! ❤
I know this is one of your older tutorials, but I love them all! I have a quick question though - I did this tumbler over the weekend, and I did the first lighter color alcohol ink (I used Tim Holtz Ginger for that). Then I sealed it, let it dry for about an hour, then added the stencil and used Teakwood over and around the stencil. My question is - how long do you let that dry before removing the stencil? I think I let it go too long, because my stencil pulled some of the Teakwood alcohol ink up, so you couldn't see my deer anymore! lol ;) Thank you for taking the time to teach - you truly are an entertainer!
I take it off as soon as it is dry enough to peel up. Another thing is that you want to make sure your tumbler is sanded and prepped properly otherwise it will pull the 1st layer off
I just wanted to let you know I really really really enjoy watching to your videos.
Thank you soooo much!!!
I love, love, love your video! Entertaining and helpful all at the same time. I can’t wait to see other videos! Thank you for your video sharing.
Thanks for the L♡VE!!
Thanks for the tutorial! The commentary was also quite entertaining. :)
Sorry I missed this comment earlier, but I caught up with ya😉👍. Thanks for watching!!
Skit was cute....BUT THIS VIDEO IS AWESOME! I made 2 last night and it's sooo easy. Gonna watch your other videos on how to apply epoxy/resin 😅 kinda nervous
Thanks!! You got this, let me know if you have any questions
Omg you are amazing thank soooooo much for sharing all your techniques. You are now my favorite .will watch all videos.
🙌🏼
at first I thought "OMG,another weirdo video"

I think this is one of the best wood grain videos I’ve seen. I love how you broke it down and explained everything. I think I’m going to try to make one of these for my grandpa for Christmas. ☺️
Thank you! If you make one, post it on Instagram and tag me!
@@DuncanCustomAirbrush I will! :)
You are hilarious! I love your video
🤣🤣👍
Your work is AWESOME 😎!!!!!! I personally haven’t made one yet, but I’m on my way to pick up products, now! You have SO MANY AWESOME DESIGNS, I couldn’t choose just one, so I’m doing ALL of them! From one crafter to another: GREAT WORK MAN!!!!
Thanks!! You got this!!
Thank you so much for this -- just made my first tumbler today! Used caramel for the lower layer and espresso for the top layer. Didn't have access to a vinyl cutting machine so I used stickers as my removable stencils and it turned out amazing! Thanks again for the incredible tutorial! 💜💜💜💜
Fantastic!!
Great wood grain!! Your videos are so much fun. Love watching you!
Thanks a ton!!!🙌🏼
Thanks for this video! You crack me up, and you made this easier for me to understand!
Awesome!! Glad it helped - in more ways than one!😉👍
I love your videos. You have me dying laughing.
Great tutorial...btw the cups with the shapes are so they fit in different cup holders.
Haha your hand actions at the start had me cracking up 😂 great tutorial! I think they made the odd shape to fit more in a cup while still fitting in a standard cup holder 👍
Yeah, mine only fits in 1 out of 6 cup holders in my truck
Duncan Custom Airbrush Be cool if there was just a standard size holder but 🤷🏻♀️
@@Mro183 yeah for real!!
@@Mro183 ikr? I mean, WTH.......?!!

❤
Just happened upon this tutorial and I think your hilarious!!! I definitely subscribed, and awesome technique by the way!
Thanks!🙌🏼
thank you so much I saw your pin on pintrest so excited to try it
Awesome!! Thats cool that you came from Pinterest - i never know if posting those things works 👍
Hey, awesome tutorial! I love that you don’t spray paint between alcohol ink colors- I think that causes more problems for me than it solves!
One question though: do you spray seal after the second coat (post-removal of your decal)? I worry about the ink smearing if it isn’t 100% dry. Thanks!
I do most of the time, but I didn't for this one because I wasn't worried about smearing because they are both browns, although I made sure everything was completely dry and cure
So just wondering what you use for the stencil material and what you use for the base coat before the alcohol ink brushi also great stuff man
I typically like to start with a pre-prepped white tumbler from Steel Magnolia so all I have to do when I get inspired is grab, do a quick wetsand with 400 grit, wipe with alcohol and go. The stencil material is Cricut Removable Vinyl
I love everything about this video!
Thanks!! This video loves everything about you!!
Love these
I LOVEEEE Your videos... You are always my go to when i want to make a tumbler.. i always learn from you. Thank you for your AWESOME videos and Alwaysssss making me laugh through it. you ROCK!
AWESOMENESSS!! Comments like this keep me goin'!!!! THANK YOU!!!😉👍
@@DuncanCustomAirbrush how and what did you use for your stencil?
Thank you so much for this. It help me make my boyfriends woodgrain tumbler. But I'm made a booboo when pilling the my turkey decal off. It took it all the way to the metal.
😱 oh poo!!! Did you sand and prep it?
I did. I'm not sure what happened I even sprayed the enamel clear coat in-between each layer. My vinyl was stuck to the cup good. It still turned out awesome and he loved it. But I've got to make another for my nephew now 💙 so I want it to be perfect.
@@tamrariggan3153 some vinyls are waaay adhesive, I use the Cricut removable
I found the problem it was the vinyl. I used a different one and it pulled off with pulling up my work 😁 I also made sure to do extra coat of the clear coat and give it time to dry.
Awesome!! I love a good happy ending!!!
What fun!! Love seeing a guy's perspective on these!
Thanks!
Hey I love your videos! I was wondering how you prep the tumblers before you start with the alcohol inks? Also how you make and what you use for the stencil? Definitely wanting to try it out!
Thank you.
1• I usually like to try to start with a white powdercoated tumbler (it saves me a couple of steps as opposed to starting with a bare metal tumbler). I wet sand it with 600 grit & wipe down with rubbing alcohol. Then you're ready to start your woodgrain!😉👍
2• I make my stencils with this Cricut: amzn.to/2uHbxgE
Using this removable vinyl: amzn.to/2QRpAsT
Your too funny! I enjoyed your video and am very excited to try this two toned woodgrain tumbler for my husband.....thank you 😊
😎🤙
Making one now! Can't wait to see the results.
What spray did you use to seal first coat of alcohol ink and where can I get the sticker for the deer and fish your work look great thank bill
I sell the digial download for diy cut your own out. The spray was Rust-Oleum Matte Cleare
Loved it
Comment below what you thought about the beginning of the video skit lol!
I loved it lol very creative
I honestly love watching your videos they are commical for me and keep my attention
@@necarivera4568 Thank you!!
@@elizabethdavis6661 Awesome! Thanks!
Loved it! You keep me laughing and learning. :)
WOW! This turned out great!!! Going to make one for my grandpa for Christmas (but with salmon fishing). Definitely subscribed!
Thanks! The woodgrain is probably my fav to do!
How many coats of clear coat did you spray after the first wood grain color? I sprayed one coat and still had a little bit of lift when I remove the decal. I sanded the metal cup then washed it then sprayed it with the etching primer two coats and then two coats of the white spray paint. Only the alcohol ink and a tiny bit of the white paint lifted. By the way I absolutely love your videos for both the entertainment value and the educational value!
Thank you! I like at least 2 but most of the time 3. Also, what did you sand the bare metal with before etching primer? You gotta be pretty ruff with that stuff. I used 220 grit - I wouldn't go any higher grit than that for bare metal, and always sand in 2 directions
Ugh...those are so 🙌
Thanks...I think😉👍, LOL
Thanks for all awesome tips, I cant wait to make one now!!
The woodgrain deers are a big hit!
First of all, this is the first time looking to do a wood grain tumbler. And we I first started this video I was like what.....YOU MADE ME LAUGH SO HARD!!! Thank you. Now to questions ??? What vinyl do you use? For each step what is the times in between, the first clear coat to applying the 2nd alcohol ink, to the epoxy? I really have enjoyed watching your videos, very informative.
Thanks! I use Cricut removable vinyl. I usually wait at least an hour for the spray sealer to dry before I move on to the next step. Then when I'm finished I typically seal it all and leave it over night then epoxy the next day if im mot in a hurry
Thanks for your tutorial, it was very helpful. Do you have a picture of what you did for the fish?
I actually have a full video: ruclips.net/video/Myf2YgbWg_k/видео.html
Quick question! Do you have a tutorial on how to clean the lip of your cup? … Again… Your tutorials are the absolute 🤩
I don't but I maybe could plan on for the future
Duncan Custom Airbrush yes please!! Have you shared which resin you prefer? 😁
Love the energy in this video!!!
Cant wait to try this. I love it. For the first step not shown. Do you just use flat white pray to prep tumbler? Thanks.
It was a white powdercoated tumbler - I try to buy them that way whenever possible
Wow! Stunning. Can’t wait to try♥️
O LOVE THE VIDEO WITH YOUR DOG YOU SHOUL MAKE MORE WITH HIM
Lol, she is lazy🤣🐶
Love your goofiness! I'm doing a kestrel on one for my husband since he's a falconer. I'm doing a Labrador outline on another for my son who hunts. Thanks for the great tutorial. After spray painting your base coat, do you use a 600 grit sandpaper?
Thanks!!🤪
Not if it hasn't been a long time since you did the base. I did mine because I bought the tumbler already powdercoated white
Great tutorial! Maybe I missed it... but did you spray another matte clear coat after 2nd coat of Alcohol ink...before epoxy? Other videos I've watched say always spray cc before epoxy to prevent alcohol inks from running/messing up. Just want to be certain before I try this! :)
yes i did
@@DuncanCustomAirbrush ok thanks!
I have 2 questions:
1. What am I doing wrong if when I pull my sticker off the ink comes off too? I put clear coat on.
2. Do we put our 2nd set of clear coat on before or after we take the sticker off?
Thank you. I really enjoy your videos and have learned a lot.
Sanding and prep is the most important. then basecoat color. The 1st alcohol ink woodgrain color. then seal with Rustoleum 2x Matte Clearé. Then stencil (has to be removable vinyl, not permanent). Then 2nd alcohol ink woodgrain color. Then remove stencil and seal again
What is your secret to getting wood tumblers to be bubble free? I have found that regardless of using heat or seeing a smooth finish, when I come back to check them on the turner, bubbles have developed. I've tried to stir slowly, warm my epoxy in a water bath, use different types of mixing cups....same result. Particularly on the wood grain, small bubbles come up, causing additional layers of epoxy and turner monopolization!
Why does my alcohol ink on the wood grain tumbler bubble up when I spray on the sealer. Ive made these before and had this problem but kept at it until I finally succeeded but I would like to know what I'm doing wrong so I don't have to keep re-doing it all the time.
Love you and your videos by the way.
I have a ? this is my first tumbler I have done this way I was going for the wood look way looking good til I strayed the clear coat on and then the alcohol ink started breaking up I know you said it would turn green can you tell me I am doing wrong Thanks
Clear coat may have had a reaction with the alcohol inks, depending on the brands. Or, maybe sprayed to heavily
Do you sand the white coat of your cup or before the cup is white?
Yes I do😉👍
I enjoy your videos! My question is about your chip brush. It looks like you just use that for alcohol inks, so do you just let it dry after each use with no washing of the brush?
Yeah, I don't wash it
Okay mister, I'm hoping you can help with some questions: this looks like a lot of alcohol ink...does it go really fast making these bottles?
Also, when I'm making my cups, my resin will sometimes be wavy or have little pot holes...what am I goofing?
Also, did you do clear coat before or after taking off the stencil? Does it matter which way?
What type of vinyl do you use?
Appreciate your videos and help! Fantastic as always.
●The inks go a pretty long way, and luckily i have a link in the video description for just the browns used for woodgrain.
●When i put my epoxy on inwatxh it like a hawk for the first few mins, if i see and resist spots i rub them really good with my gloved finger then wave my magic torch wand over it.
●I do seal before and after the stencil
●I am usin Cricut Premium Removable Vinyl
@@DuncanCustomAirbrush You're the bomb! Thank you so much! One more question I forgot (aka bonus question) I noticed you could see the "Hog" logo on the bottom of this tumbler. Did you spray paint it before epoxying or, if the bottle is already colored from the manufacturer, you can just rough it up?
[*Insert Nonchalant plug for a full Amazon list of materials in your About Me section of your RUclips Profile*]
@@ME-hi5gn i did not spray it, just sanded. Good idea about the Amazon list - someone else also mentioned that I should put it on my website too
Nice! I love the wood texture!💜
Thanks!
Hola, es fantástico. Preguntó, antes de poner la resina vuelves a sellar ese último color? Y el sello tiene que ser matte? Gracias!!
I love all your videos!! You are amazing at what you do!!
Do you have an how to do epoxy video??
Thank you! Yes I do: ruclips.net/video/UWiazFz2MRI/видео.html
Awesome stuff
Thanks!👍
What material do you use for your stencil? I'm having a problem with Cricut stencil vinyl pulling the alcohol in and the spray paint off.
it was Cricut removable vinyl. make sure you are sanding and prepping your cup properly
Lol you’re fun!
LOL AWESOME, I'm so glad you enjoyed it!!🙌🏼
Can you apply a waterslide decal to this alcohol ink?
probably after you seal it
I love your videos!
Do you ever have trouble with fisheyes when you use alcohol?
I had to remove adhesive from the bottom of a cup and it caused fisheyes only where I used the alcohol. But then I see other people use alcohol and have no issues
Would brown and caramel maybe create this effect? I want to make my first and I love the wood grain look. Nice job by the way.
Awesome,
Thank you!
Great tutorial!! If I don’t like some areas with alcohol ink, can I remove it with alcohol & redo that section? Also, after removing decal, and I tiny spot gets scratched- how can I fix it? Thank you!!! 😊
just do another streak and you can fix it, no need to remove anything
Duncan Custom Airbrush thank you! I have another question- what do you do if while putting a thin layer of epoxy on cup, you notice lint?! Yikes!! 😑 Yeah, that just happened to me. It’s noticeable because background is dark. Thanks!
tweezers if you catch it early, then torch
Love your humor - thanks for the entertainment! 😄 I'm going to be painting a blue wood grain - would you recommend applying a base coat or would just a light sanding be ok on a stainless cup?
Following
Duncan sick job dude. Im also a custom bait/lure painter. My wife wants to starts cups. Can i ask where you get the cups? Again man u have a killer channel keep up the good work
Thanks dude, i order from

@@DuncanCustomAirbrush thank you man
Also could you share a link for where you got those larger smooth tumblers?
There are the HOGG 30oz Fatty from Stainless Steel Depot
Hi! I just found your videos not long ago and I love watching you. Quick question, does this technique work the same with other alcohol color brands or does it work better with the brand you used? I’m new to the tumblers and I love doing them❤️
Thanks, it works with all of them
I’m still new at this. Do you do use the stencil from the circuit. If not, how do u print out the stencil. And after you put the ginger and caramel color alcohol ink on do you do a second coat of the clear coat spray.
I use an internet deer image and cut it out if removable vinyl on my Cricut. Yes, you can spray another sealer after the final colors, but I have gotten away without doing that. I didn't on this one, but it never hurts
I loved your video but i think whatever im using to prep my cup isnt working. When i would put the ink on the cup, by the time i could brush it it was being absorbed and no brush strokes would show. Any idea or recommended primer?
Thanks! You gotta be quick. What is your base?
