I started windsurfing age 10 in NZ and my bedroom walls were covered in your posters, I told my parents I wanted to be like Robby (they laughed & couldn't afford to buy me any windsurfing gear). I saved up all my own $ money for all the gear & even made my own wetsuit by hand so I could windsurf through Winter. I spent up to 9hrs a day on the water, eventually ended up being a sponsored rider and went on to compete for a few years thx to watching you lead by example - I was in awe when I was 10 and still in awe now! You're a massive inspiration to us all and this South Swell edit was yet another stunning film captured beautifully! Aloha Robby from NZ , )
Same here, I was 14 when I started in 1979! Never became pro but enjoyed every second of it until 4 herniated discs at 45 forced me to quit. Miss it every day! Robby Nash has inspired more than one generation, for sure!
Same here, almost every detail. I started at the age of 13, quit windsufing in my mid 20ies for surfing, now 52 and ended up kiting, the best thing that could happen to me! But it started all with Robby. Thank you man!
It was the fall of 1979 as I remember, and I (having learned to windsurf couple of years earlier) entered “the North American Windsurfing Championships“ at Brigantine NJ, just north of Atlantic City. At dinner, we ended up sitting with a blonde teenager from Hawaii who was looking a little lost. He was kinda shy but very pleasant and unpretentious. I learned that someone had flown him out to compete and I thought that was odd. He had explained that he lived in Hawaii because his dad was involved in surfing and moved the family out there a few years earlier. At the awards, when I won the masters class (I was all of 39 or 40) I was pleasantly surprised to see that he had won the whole damn event! Fast forward about a decade. I’d won some F2 competition in the Caribbean and enjoyed my prize which was a trip to the Canary Islands which coincided with the windsurfing world cup event there. At that point the sport grown, my wave sailing skill didn’t even exist, and I went down to the beach to see how Robbie was doing. He was competing but did not have a board caddy. I had cracked a couple of ribs, but was happy to do grunt duty on the beach, which I did. Same nice pretentious guy who did remember the Atlantic City meeting and it was fun helping him out. He took me to some after-race party hosted by a French guy who did the cooking. So now it’s 2022 and I’m 81 years old. Still windsurf very occasionally and have watched his growth as a legend and purveyor of kitesurfing gear. Was wonderful seeing that pink mistral sail on a “regular“ windsurfer again. No kite, no foil. From Lake George NY where the wind still blows and you can actually drink the fresh water, good memories and aloha, Robbie. You are the Lionel Messi of windsurfing!
This is why after 60 years of surfing and knowing zero about windsurfing I can watch Robbie Nash anytime and be completely amazed. This is a particularly absolutely beautiful video.
What can be said? A masterclass by the legend. Notice the harness flapping freely as Robby negotiates over, under, around and through the most hellish wave conditions with fluidity and control. Amazing.
This is sooooo coooool! No flippy, spinny, spready jumps, just my idol of the youth playing with waves and performing STYLE! Thanks Mr. Naish, godfather of windsurfing!
You're such a legend Robbie. From watching you in Mistral videos in the early '80s to the present day, you've showed all the others the way it is done. Kudos to your film crew as well.
Legend, I don't think people realize how much strength it takes to be at this level at this age. Kiting, wing foiling are easy by comparison, windsurfing requires a lot more dedication (and gifts) to maintain this level. I've been lucky enough to meet and talk Robbie on a few occasions, he is such a great human and ambassador for these sports. One Robbie story: he's on shore in Hatteras talking to a friend of mine, I'm on the water on an Aero II 6 meter kite in 0-45 mph storm front wind. Robbie says to my friend "who's that idiot." LOL #badgeofhonor #humancrashtestdummy 👍💪
It’s like watching R.I.P. from the 80’s again, but in Hi-Res video. Kudos to you, Robby to be able to do the same things 40 years later and without even breaking a sweat!!!
I lived on the Big Island for many years & I used to love to visit Mau'i...I've seen that spot many times on big south swells-it's experts only for sure...there's a chapter in Gerry Lopez's autobiography, Surf Is Where You Find It, which details a defining moment in his evolution as a true big wave surfer...he got worked pretty bad & washed to the shore exhausted...he really didn't want to paddle back out, & possibly face another beating---yet, he told himself, "If you don't paddle back out there right now, you'll never be able to face these kind of waves again." So, naturally, he paddled back out, & caught more waves...the title of the chapter is "When in doubt, paddle out!" Yet, there you sat alone on the morning of the second day of that huge south swell, in the windsurfing capital of the world, & no one else showed up---so, you went back out---alone....to my mind, you are the best surfer on the planet...your skill, experience, & pure courage are on another level, even among the elite of the sport...the waves were so beautiful & awesome to watch, even just on video, with you riding them with such majesty
Great story about Lopez and comments. Nobody else showed up because even though Robbie made it look fun and manageable, those conditions were FAR from that. Robbie was probably looking at those conditions with excitement, while others were looking at it with fear of what could go wrong. Nobody has the years of experience, and the confidence that comes with that. It sure was awesome seeing what COULD be done with those Gorgeous waves. Thanks Robbie, for sharing your experience!!
A session And conditions that only you could dare getting into. Always the awe you inspire. I grew up watching you and am still in admiration by your prowesses. Long May you live and (wind)surf Robby. Windsurfing would not be what it is without you.
Just walking the Kings Trail with Jesus Walkers or shoes through La perouse Bay and Maui's most recent lava flow area with razor sharp lava rocks & sharp Coral for all to see and the wind is a challenge.. no sand beaches on the shoreline nothing but traps and grave sites of surfers that have Braved these shorelines.. & with historic waves? this is a legend ride. What great technology we have now able to capture it.. Bravo to the Drone pilot I almost lost mine in this area in the winds... for the unknowing eye it looks so easy trust me.. most do not know not what it is like on that South side Shoreline.. a place even the king's walked and many perished from the volcano at your back
Fantastic, this is what life is about: do what you’re good at, enjoy it and share your joy with others. I love watching Robby Naish’ videos on RUclips, it brings back the feeling of standing on a surfboard, being one with nature and friends and simply enjoying the moment.
Thanks bro very inspirational I got a road side throw out board and sail its ok very stoked to be in water and wind again after watching and getting some good days thankyou
Pan Am cup, Kailua Bay,1981. That did it. I had windsurfed before on basic plastic boards but those few days opened my eyes to a whole new dimension. I moved to Hawaii and have been windsurfing ever since. Thank you Robby, Aloha, from a Limey in Hawaii.
I just stumbled upon this video and was amazed how the hero of my youth is still out there doing things only few men dare to do. What an incredible arm and grip strength he must have. I first got in contact with windsurfing when I was 6yrs old, in 1976, in Curaçao. Although I loved doing it till in my 40's whenever life allowed, I never became a wave surfer. It just seemed too scary to me😂. I stuck to my trusty slalom board (Mistral Screamer) and tried to go as fast as possible with the occasional jump when the big lake water got big enough swells. I'm in my 50's now and illness has taken most of any strength and stamina I had left. I will never windsurf again I guess, but I brings me great joy to see Robby still ripping it up out there on Maui.❤
In any sport there are many tricksters, speeders, flyers and crazy youngsters around today and they are doing great. But then there are the legends and the extraordinary gentlemen (and women) that show us the spirit of the thing (don't want to call it simply sport) e.g. Gerry Lopez, Jeremy Jones, Tiger Woods, Danny McAskill and for sure Robby Naish. Thx Rob for a life long inspiration. Had the pleasure to meet you here and there, still riding Choppers with lot's of joy and even though I understand your step I'm sad about the sale! Mahalo from Switzerland
Always great to see you ride Robby, this reminds me of the feeling I got watching Blowing Out when I was young, you are a lifetime inspiration, thanks 🙂
☠️🏴☠️Thanks to a conversation we had in Cabarete in 89 during the PWA tour. I decided to move here Dominican Republic. Been here ever since. Wind & Surf Capital.🤙🏼
Fanfreakingtastic! Recognized the name of this true waterman! Much respect also for camera work from the beach! Surprised there weren't others OUT THERE
Yes... aproaching my 55 aniversery next year.. And as the others.. Robby Naish was my idol when i started windsurfing with 17. While i now rather go Kitesurfing, these images still amaze me.. You dont need to do those double tripple what the hell the stuff is named, to love this sport. Pure beauty. Why the hell, can kids today not enjoy this deph feeliing of pure nature and amazing power of the Ocean.. Well of course, here in north germany... youll never have those colors of wather, warmth and those fantastic waves.. But still its phantastic. to be out there, forget everything else, and be one with the nature and the moment. Thanks mir Naish.. Do you realy understand how much joy youve brought tho so many people?
Je n'ai jamais ete dans les vagues, toujours du slalom, je suis impressionné par ta lecture du terrain, les trajectoires, je partage pour autant toute la sérénité que tu semble y trouver , c'est ce que m'offre le windsurf, bon vent à tous!
Haven't sailed a board for 30 years, still got it HA. Did a car trip from Mambo Classic with his brother to some where. Wish we had phones with cameras then. Shout out to the OGs .
Awesome footage and sailing Robbie. Always inspirational. Watching you trying to outrun the break on that first day 2 wave was absolutely amazing! That is why you wavesail folks -mobility and SPEED
Thank you Robby for still being on the board. I'm from the windsurfing island Sylt i. Germany, started in the 70ies ( but quit years ago). Always admired your style when you were there, fighting with the cold North Sea and the somehow erratic waves . What a pleasure to watch you. Keep going.
Robby. You need to know we all consider you the one, the legend, the GOAT. Windsurfing is the best sport on the planet and you made it so. This video is insane - some awesome conditions. Thanks for everything you’ve done for windsurfing , kitesurfing, paddling and wing foiling ❤️🤙💥 Cheers. Paul Dunn
Congratulations Robby, you're a God for me, since I was a children ("Nuit de la Glisse" at Paris on TV, in '90s), you push me to love windsurfing and now wingfoiling. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR FANTASTIC PASSION !!! This video is very beautiful.
Robby, thanks for posting up this vid . That's my old stomping ground from late 90's. You absolutely nailed it. I paddle and that would've been a nightmare
You are my HERO since 1976. Always admired your freedom on the water and your skills. So glad to see you still rock the waves at this day. Keep going, Peace!
Wow. You still rock. Huge inspiration. Solo wavesailing in huge surf in the middle of nowhere. Reminds me of sessions I had in Ka’alualu Bay by South Point on the Big Island. Just me and the schools of flying fish out there.
Wow squared. Windsurfed back in the 90's up until 2010 then converted to kiteboarding. Multiple trips to Maui, but not those conditions. Brings back the windsurf stoke. Its great you combine narrative with footage on the water.
Amazing - only one out in challenging conditions - u carved the waves up like cutting thru butter - makes me want to ditch my paddle surf board and take up windsurfing - well done!!!
My first board was a TenCate. I moved on to an F2 and then custom boards; one of them is based one of Robbie’s early Maui glass boards. Now I’m looking at maybe getting back into the sport and having a go at foiling. So much has happened since the early days of the sport and Robbie has been able to show us the ropes. Amazing drone footage. Rock-on dude.
Robby, been a fan since 1985. Lost my gear in hurricane Katrina, and haven't sailed since for the most part. So impressed and amazed how good you still are. To take on surf that size is mind-boggling. Still hopeful the sport rebounds around this part of the world. Thank you for your work and inspiration.
Loved the raw section at the end the most. No music, just the sound of the board ripping over the wave-face. And the concentration in the rider's face. Simple is best.
I've been watching this Robby Naish sailboard porn since I started windsurfing in the SF Bay in the 1980's. During one of the San Francisco World Cups over the 4th of July in (maybe) 1987 I was surfing my gun at Crissy, dialed in, pedal-to-the-metal under the Gate, and Robby passed me (wearing a weight vest) like I was standing still...and he was beating to weather!! He's become quite the cinematographer in recent years. Awesome channel Robby.
Robby N making us old guys look REALLY nice!! Started windsurfing at 12 in '78. Believe it or not I took my first lessons in Prince Edward Islands in the Canadian North Atlantic... that cold water and no wet suit makes for quick learns 😂😂 thanks Robby for sharing!!
Mr. Naish, dear Robby, thank you for feeding our windsurfers' dreams, just like if decades didn't pass. :) (I just watched your RIP vid from "the days": still goosebumps and adrenaline rushes, as the first time I watched it, when it came out in video) Thank you for keeping windsurfing alive.
Everything is already said about our real Windsurfing legend since 40 years: Thanks Robby Naish - keep on Surfing and having us with you from time to time!!
I was windsurfing in fuerteventura a week ago and there was only a small swell, but it was so much fun riding up and down those waves. This right here is just ... insane!
I'm subscribed! I've been reviewing my old 70's to 90's Wind Surf mags lately, so this vid was perfect.. The 49 truck knocked me out, as I have a 59 Dodge. Glad to see you are as cool a guy now as you are in the old mags and books.
It's La Perouse Bay. Used to go there to get a way from the crowds at the Dumps way before the sealed the road in. Used to be a hard drive towards the end, over the lava fields. Lost my muffler one time. Always busy when it was on, but what a great wave. Now with the internet everyone knows its on and the sealed road has every man and his dog making the run. No need to be bleeping it out Robbie. Makes no difference.
Thanks Robby!;))) 💥🌬️🌊!!!;))) 🙏👑THE King 👑🙏!!! ... Hahaha !!! I "know" you since i was 13 years old ...in 1978 ... My really first Funboard was the Mistral Take Off ❤️ then ... the Mistral Maui , Mistral Diamond Head...etc... etc...etc... So Beautiful and Natural Sport For ever ....🌊💙💙💙🌊... Always 100% Fun!!! Stéphane from Toulouse (France)🤙
thank you for sitting in front of ypur computer, looking at yourself windsurfing to gift us this clip! saved my day and made me dream of next summer being on the water again. ❤👍🏻👌 thank you for the music two... that second day including the soundtrack is AWESOME ✌️🙏☀️
A long long time ago i was at a beach in the netherlands with another 100.000 people. You did a table top.... Hahhahaha. I wanted to do that... The sport has evalvolved . Great to see you still out there❤
You may not enjoy editing the video Robby, but it's definitely a joy to see the end result for all the viewers! Just wonderful to see. I'm amazed nobody showed up early on the second day. What time did you go out?
1987 I remember sailing at D-Head and Robbie showed up. First reach out was a forward followed by another forward, then a back loop. True story... I rode at all the same spots Robbie did for years! He never gave any of us the time of day.
I started windsurfing age 10 in NZ and my bedroom walls were covered in your posters, I told my parents I wanted to be like Robby (they laughed & couldn't afford to buy me any windsurfing gear). Robby Nash has inspired more than one generation, for sure!
9 hours a day??? The older we get, the greater the exaggerations
similar story for me in Switzerland brother, the king of Windsurfing what an awesome inspiration for us !
Thank you Robby and God bless you!

BTW, the “signature” name above, although similar in initials, is not exactly mine, it’s what I use for RUclips and other public postings.
UN-pretentious, not what autospell stuck in above. Sorry, Robbie.
Very beautiful story! Rolling Bernie - Vienna/Austria*
You wrote that with your soul…
This is why after 60 years of surfing and knowing zero about windsurfing I can watch Robbie Nash anytime and be completely amazed. This is a particularly absolutely beautiful video.
Believe me when you are a wind surfer you even more amazed seeing this. .. It's insane.. But when you know your skills. ...
...and SPORT!❤
*Naish
What can be said? A masterclass by the legend. Notice the harness flapping freely as Robby negotiates over, under, around and through the most hellish wave conditions with fluidity and control. Amazing.
This is sooooo coooool! No flippy, spinny, spready jumps, just my idol of the youth playing with waves and performing STYLE! Thanks Mr. Naish, godfather of windsurfing!
I’ve been surfing for 50+ years and I’ve only seen a handful of folks as next level as Nash. This is art.
You're such a legend Robbie. From watching you in Mistral videos in the early '80s to the present day, you've showed all the others the way it is done. Kudos to your film crew as well.

On 1986 the French magazin « Wind magazine » called Robby « the terminator » , « Because he starts where the orhers finish…. » they wrote. So true!
US1111 - was my inspiation as a kid. And you are continuing to be an inspiration now. Keep rocking Robbie.
RESPECT
The. Greatest. Of. All. Time. I idolised you ~40 years ago. & still do. Aloha.
Holy sh&t balls that’s some sick sailing. Robby’s humble and down to earth on the beach, so you forget how hard he rips, wow. Legend indeed.
Incredible strength and style.
A session And conditions that only you could dare getting into. Always the awe you inspire. I grew up watching you and am still in admiration by your prowesses. Long May you live and (wind)surf Robby. Windsurfing would not be what it is without you.
Lovely footage of the wave train and the sailor playing as always...as free as a bird. Thanks Meistro
GOAT! Beautifully filmed, awesome video. Thank you Robby for continuing to let us land-locked windsurfers live out our dreams vicariously...

Has to be some of the best sensation one can experience in the Ocean.. especially with that theme song 🎵
Robby you are the Boss. This video is just Splendid ! Surprised to notice That you surf with front Hand turned upward .
Awesome footage and sailing Robbie. Always inspirational.

Robby is an artist, I started windsurfing in the 80’s because of him! Very inspiring!
Who wouldn’t enjoy that footage?? Outstanding!!
Footage and the edit is pure gold! Thanks Robbie!
Robby you are my hero. You are living a great life that I envy. Keep it up buddy. Love the videos.
Amazing, amazing “work” a bit like turning the clock back. Inspirational as always for so many years. Long may you continue🤙🏻
You will always be the GOAT.
Absolutely unreal; at 59 and ripping it like that, hats off Robby
Amazing Robby, thanks for the upload! I snorkeled at that spot, didn't know it could go off like that! Han
So rad and inspiring. In your 60s you are living a dream life. Never tired of changes nor adjustments.
Smooth moves, big waves, and a roaring offshore. Thanks for the great video La Jolla dude.
Looks like such a fun place to get washed up in the shorebreak! Awesome Robbie! Great swell, great rides!
Thank you Robby you're da King 👑 always on the water, no doubt. And you still come across so genuinely, a beautiful Soul. God bless you !
J’ai commencé la planche à voile en 1984 , j’ai 61 ans, et je vous admire toujours autant . Longue vie Robby 🙏👍
Les conditions avaient l'air vraiment géniales !
Legendary Swell and the Ultimate Legend Riding it that’s Just the best 🤩💯💯💯💯
Robby N making us old guys look REALLY nice!! Started windsurfing at 12 in '78. Believe it or not I took my first lessons in Prince Edward Islands in the Canadian North Atlantic... that cold water and no wet suit makes for quick learns 😂😂 thanks Robby for sharing!!
Mr. Naish, dear Robby, thank you for feeding our windsurfers' dreams, just like if decades didn't pass. :)
(I just watched your RIP vid from "the days": still goosebumps and adrenaline rushes, as the first time I watched it, when it came out in video)
Thank you for keeping windsurfing alive.
An Impossible Dream for me, Thx for Living it for all us who can’t!!
Don’t ever stop!! Aloha!
See you in May.
Everything is already said about our real Windsurfing legend since 40 years: Thanks Robby Naish - keep on Surfing and having us with you from time to time!!
I was windsurfing in fuerteventura a week ago and there was only a small swell, but it was so much fun riding up and down those waves. This right here is just ... insane!
Robby you re a legend. Master
I'm subscribed!
I've been reviewing my old 70's to 90's Wind Surf mags lately, so this vid was perfect..
The 49 truck knocked me out, as I have a 59 Dodge.
Glad to see you are as cool a guy now as you are in the old mags and books.
Robbie Nash... Legendary! Massive Respect!!
Awesome content. Thanks Mr. Naish, godfather of windsurfing!
Absolutly fascinating
Amazing
Thank you very much 🙏
It's La Perouse Bay.
Made my Sunday! Happy to see you ripping! Cheers from TX!
Thanks for taking the time and sharing your passion. Loved the shots of the road as well as the reef. I feel your passion man. Keeping it real.
Always been a legend and my idol.
Heading out alone in those conditions is next level.
Whoa. That was crazy good. Great footage and editing btw. Had some happy days by the looks of things.
You are the KING of Windsurfing forever ! My favorite athlète!
Robby Naish is a real king of watersports👍👍👍.... only you could dare getting into. Windsurfing would not be what it is without you.
Pretty good for a 48 year old 🤣 You're a legend Robby, thanks for all your years, inspiration, & your products!!!

thank you for sitting in front of ypur computer, looking at yourself windsurfing to gift us this clip! saved my day and made me dream of next summer being on the water again. ❤👍🏻👌
thank you for the music two... that second day including the soundtrack is AWESOME ✌️🙏☀️
Totally epic…nice video editing…looks like a blast..thanks for the share 🤙🏼
Incredible skill and humility. Truly a Master.
Wow, so solid out there. Nice to see your stoke still on for the sport.
1987 I remember sailing at D-Head and Robbie showed up. First reach out was a forward followed by another forward, then a back loop. True story...
I rode at all the same spots Robbie did for years! He never gave any of us the time of day.
