    100% ok with that proposition
Condemning people to death because they are different is opposite the Olympic values.
it's time for the Olympic Committee to stop diverting the look and thus bail all this.
Evil wins thanks to the inaction of good people
Thank you to Tom for this powerful message and for his commitment

@@matthewjackson5128 To me what’s odd, is your black and white approach to this very complex matter. We’re not talking only about countries where it’s punishable by death, but also those where it’s illegal, as well as those were everything looks great on paper but in reality people are scared to walk on the street holding hands with their partners. Besides, making sth legal is also not the same as treating it with respect and allowing equal rights. There’s still a long way ahead of us as a society and it definitely is not limited to Muslim countries. I’m glad Tom is using his platform to steer up the conversation.

The Olympic Games federation must be very empathetic and aware of the fear or frustration that lgbt athletes must feel when entering a country where they are not welcome, where they do not have the same rights as others or worse are seen as a threat that they must assassinate. There should be no Olympic Games in any country where human rights are violated. That is inconsistent with the mission proclaimed by the Olympic Games themselves.

I agree why allow countries that persistently discriminate to partake in a world championship. I think any country that kills people because of their sexuality should be banned. Diplomacy is not working after years and years of trying this approach, it is nothing but allowing an excuse. Those religious and political leaders use religion like they are some diety and have power over all people. They pick on minorities like LGBTQ to exercise control. If someone doesn't conform to a religious ideolgy then so what... it does not matter. We are all born as a physical body with more or less equally.... why should some with political or religious power say that others should be sentenced to death because they dont conform. It is so wrong and out dated.
The olympic commision care more about people pleasing these reigious fascist states than the values of freedom to live as you want.

I agree that countries with horrific laws like this need to be held accountable to make change, but banning them from the olympics just seems to punish athletes that want to compete

    • @liliqua1293
      @liliqua1293 3 года назад

I think if they want to compete, they should try to compete for other countries. It happens often enough that it can actually help elicit change better that way.
And to be clear, I think any country that has a consistent record of human rights abuses shouldn't be allowed to compete.
Also, the inconvenience of not competing at the Olympics, pales in comparison to the oppression minorities face in their home countries.

The sentiment is admirable and right, however the route is flawed. Sanctions very rarely work, the targeted governments are so arrogant they don't care.
Many comments here point out that it will be the aspiring athletes that will suffer.
What should be done is that world governments pressure oppressive governments.
    We know that won't happen.
The irony is that people take to the streets in protest against perceived discrimination in the most tolerant countries in the world, for example UK, USA, most of western Europe, because it's easy.
Go protest in Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, UAE, think of any others?
    Imagine what would happen.

Good on you Tom Daley from NZ. This can be achieved. In 1981 NZ brought SA apartheid to the attention of the world. This level of controversy had never been seen before in NZ history. To cut a far more in depth story short. As a direct result of NZ protesting vigorously to say the least. Apartheid was dismantled. Good triumphed over Evil. Keep going Tom
