My husband and I just a few nights ago were talking about Yo You Man. Even decades old memory of him has me laughing. When I learned of TS's death, I came here. My husband and I laughed raucously. It felt wonderful. Yes, it was a simple pleasure that stands the test of time.
Amen I just heard he passed away and had to look up the Yo Yo Man! He is truly one with the cosmos now.Thank you guys for speaking your minds and being entertaining
The Smothers Brothers are both extremely talented in many different ways. Music, yo-yo, stand up, comic skits, you name it, they can do it. We'll certainly miss you, Tom.
Thank you, TOMMY SMOTHERS for doing your part to help tame mankind with your gift, talent, activism and all the laughs over the years. Your legacy is sealed.
One of my favorite segments from The Smothers Brothers revival in the late 1980's. I remember my sister would laugh hysterically every time Tom would go into his dance routine. R.I.P.
I loved the Yo-yo Man and Tom! I used to have a couple of Duncan butterfly yo-yos because of the Smothers Brothers. It really sad to see he's gone now. Tommy and Dick were great entertainers.
My son learned all the yo-yo tricks from the Smothers Brothers Yo-yo Instructional video in the mid 90’s when he was 10 or 11. Now that video is on RUclips & it is very entertaining to boot!
My son was a kid in the 90s, when yo-yos made a comeback. We got him the one that he wanted for Christmas. He loved it and he learned a quite few tricks for a 10-year-old kid. I loved watching him. I really miss those times.
RIP Tommy Smothers. A simpler time, a simpler place. Im 65 now. I remember my 5 uncles always doing their routines after the weekly broadcast. "Mom always liked you best!" was shouted all the time. I miss those days more than i can say. 😢
It's amazing that Tommy Smothers could do a comedy routine based on his expertise with doing yo-yo tricks. I remembers yo-yos being a very popular toy with kids my own age at that time. That, slinkys, and play-dough occupied me for hours at a time. Unfortunately, I tried, but couldn't emulate the tricks Tommy Smothers could do. In the late sixties there were no electronic toys, or Play-Stations. But we still had a lot of fun with what we had.
My prayers are with Dick and the entire family. Tommy was truly one of a kind. I remember hearing back in the day Tommy would show some kids those yo-yo tricks.
Tommy,I remember a Lot of Things About You...... mostly the Music and How just out of nowhere you said or did something on stage and the people were laughing so hard 😂,the face's you made.....O, my gosh....R.I.P. You are a remarkable person never to be forgotten.❤
I remember watching this episode live... they were fantastic together. RIP and thanks to a great comedian, a fine musician, a lifelong liberal activist and hell of a Yo-yo man!
No Tate Stages, no autotune, no jammed stadiums, no pyrotechnics, no special effects. Just raw talent, whimsy, silliness. RIP Tommy, you guys rocked. For uninitiated, check ou Map Of The World.
Rest In Peace Tommy 😢 I’ll always remember the time we saw the Smothers Brothers perform at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel. I had the Yo Yo man VHS tape. My VCR broke and then I donated all of my tapes to Goodwill. 😢 “Dream the Impossible Dream” was my favorite song.
I've only seen them live twice. One at a local county fair where they did the "Yo-Yo Man" bit which I had never seen nor heard of. And a second time the next night when I went back to see the show again.
in 1984, I was part of a Tommy Smothers skit and didn't know it. He was in the lobby of a hotel singing a song he had written while laying on his back kickin' his feet and arms in the air! The song was about the Betty Ford center to the tune of "they are coming to take me away ha ha" He then hopped up and said let''s go get a drink at a nearby bar. We went out to a rental car parked just out the hotel lobby and four of us got in. He looked over at me and asked if I had the keys? I laughed and he asked the guys in the back for the keys. It was obvious, at that point, that it wasn't his car! We all laughed and went back inside the hotel! I'm sure he had played this prank before! It was a chance meeting and the funny coincidence was that the Smothers' piano player Michael Preddy was my piano teacher in Texas college a year before meeting with them in upstate New York!
Talented Tommy will be forever fondly remembered. Back in the 60's the Smothers Brothers made us look forward to Sunday nights. We would cancel plans for any event that interfered with viewing them!
Mom may have liked your brother best, but I always loved you best, Yo-Yo Man! Loved you since Purple Onion days. RIP, darling Tom, and thanx so very much, for the magic, music, and memories.
When I was a kid I thought the Yo-yo man was the coolest. As much as I practiced, I was too klutzy to achieve the spirit of Yo. Tommy taught me 2 things. 1) the joy was in trying. 2) nothing is nerdy if you never mind others' opinions. Thank you Tommy and Dick for the joy.
I never really watched Tom Smothers Yo-Yo stuff, but I got into Yoing when I was in High School and the Tom Smothers Yo-Yo was probably my favorite of all time. They did all eventually fall apart, they had glued wooden shafts, but they felt so good in the hand and had amazing spin and energy. Yo-Yo's got way more complicated after that, but that mass-market Yo-Yo was really exceptional.
My favorite SBs censored joke: Dick: "Do you know the significance of Easter, Tom?" "Yes, that's when our Lord rolled back the boulder and emerged from the hole in the ground." "That is correct, Tom; I am so proud of you for knowing that." "Yeah, and if he sees his shadow, he goes back in for another six weeks!"
Literally the reason I wanted a yo-yo as a child and grown up enough now to realize how forward thinking and kind these gentlemen were in a time when the world was not so much.
I grew up watching them. They have been around my entire life and Im 54. I yoyo'd i bet because of Tommy. he was a master. I was never that good but had fun. I probably hit myself more than Tommy in his entire life. RIP to Tommy and his family and friend and big best wishes to Richard in this time.
Oh Dear! Wait a minute while I wipe my tears away! Oh Tommy Smothers you " MR. YOYOMAN" were my favorite brother! 💞🙏🏻 I remember the TV nights when our family would pile into the den to watch " The Smothers Brothers Show"!. It was an hour of truly edgy 60'S entertainment. I remember the night your show had been canceled by the station for pushing the envelope. I think it was about your protesting of the War the US was sending boy's to in Vietnam!? We were heartbroken losing your show! But a few years later along came ROWEN MARTIN'S LAUGH IN TV and they BROKE all the TV regulations! So thankfully they Brought you and Dick on as guest's! Thanks for teaching us YOYO TRICKS and to always to "QUESTION AUTHORITIES"! REST in PEACE and LOVE forever TOMMY! I Thank both of you brother for truly touching my heart and soul as a pre-teen and affected my direction in life. 🕊❤ 💫🕯🎶 🧿 🙏🏻
That was good. Dick had to feel very confident in his brother's abilities. That yo-yo could have hit him. What if they'd ever got to play the Grand Ole Opry? Roy Acuff was more conservative. But he also did yo-yo tricks. RIP Tom. Thanks for all the laughs, songs, and yo-yo tricks.
I remember the yo-yo man. He actually made yo-yo's so popular you couldn't find them. Every kid in my neighborhood wanted a yo-yo too. My brothers sure did. I loved their show and watched it every week. Rest in Peace Tommy Smothers.
R.I.P. Yo-Yo Man. You inspired a new generation. You paid it forward and I pray that the Yo Masters of tomorrow contain your child like joy and energy.
Being a millennial, I obviously missed the original run of "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour" and my introduction to them was through the "Yo-Yo Man" instructional video from the 1980's. In addition to being funny it actually taught me some yo-yo tricks (I've since forgotten them).

This truly speaks to an innocent time when simple pleasures were entertaining and people were interesting. RIP Tom Smothers

@@mulder1013 this was the first thing I looked up after I heard the news. Good memories.
Wasn't an "innocent time". The Viet Nam war was raging, people were protesting, Nixon was an ass., not Innocent times, just history.
@@mariyamwaniki Ture enough...and they got kicked off their extremely popular show for saying so. They were my heroes
RIP Tom Smothers. May you forever be with the spirit of Yo.
RIP Tom Smothers 😢 The world’s greatest yo-yo man!
I’m in complete agreement 😊
He was an amazing man

His facial expressions slay me!!😂😂😂 I was surprised how hard his death hit me. Poor Dickie.
RIP Tommy Smothers! I always loved you best! No, really, you have had a special place in my heart all these years.
One of my favorite segments from The Smothers Brothers revival in the late 1980's. I remember my sister would laugh hysterically every time Tom would go into his dance routine. R.I.P.
I could almost pin the month this was filmed based solely on Dick's sweater.
“Just say Yo!”
I have a permanent smile on my face whenever I watch Tommy. Great fun the both of them gave us! RIP Tommy
I loved the Yo-yo Man and Tom! I used to have a couple of Duncan butterfly yo-yos because of the Smothers Brothers. It really sad to see he's gone now. Tommy and Dick were great entertainers.
Rest In Peace Tommy Smothers. It was great to meet you at the Dutchess County Fair in NY back in 1990.
My son learned all the yo-yo tricks from the Smothers Brothers Yo-yo Instructional video in the mid 90’s when he was 10 or 11. Now that video is on RUclips & it is very entertaining to boot!

My daughter too!
"LOVED" This as a young girl! Nothing else like it ❤😂😊

Tom Smothers was probably my favorite comedian, and it just goes to show you, you can be funny without having a foul mouth.
I was gifted a yoyo when I saw them in person as a kid. Truly a wonderful part of my childhood. Tom will be missed.
...and a wonderful part of the childhood for many of the rest of us. They were always must watch tee vee back in the late 60s.
I remember that too! I couldn’t do shit with the yo-yo but I always remember every time he started getting in the groove just made me smile
Yo-yo man has left the building, thank for the memories.
Saw them at the Philadelphia Academy of Music around 1965. Wonderful memories.

The next time my wife drags me onto a dance floor, I’m going to channel the Yo Yo Man dance moves.
