Played this at the PMEA District 3 jazz festival. Our director said that Mike Kamuf was a friend of his, and in the trumpet solo there was a lick that him and Mike were banned from using in college cause they over used it. It was a throwback moment when he realized it. This was by far by favorite song in the red bands selection. I was red band lead tenor, and this song really tested my improv, and I learned more in those two days at the festival and from this song then the rest of the year (music wise)
edit: More context- there are 3 bands, red band (top band), white band (second band), and blue band (third band).

I love this arrangement. The original song is a classic. Being lead trumpet, the soli is awesome with the saxes.
The half feel from the drummer, which is not written that way, makes the chart stand out.
    Some great work there.

Love how the drummer actually played it differently from the score. The drum part on the score isn't good at all.

yeah i agree, the drum score is garbage. i play it in double time and i’ve actually asked my band what they think sounds good, so we’re really solid on this song. by far my favourite song to play in jazz band
